1 Tenderloin District Newsletter February 22, 2008 Captain's Comments: Dear Neighbors: The flu has hit the Tenderloin Station and both my Newsletter editors are off sick so I have patched together a short newsletter for this week. We continue to absolutely bring in as many of the nefarious characters of crime as we can find and still they come from everywhere but here. One operation of the many we ran this week was for violent sex offenders who have disappeared off the map that is failed to register. In a short amount of time (4 hours) your Officers brought in eight offenders. There will be no let up by your Officers, our two a day operations are scheduled and continue to be run targeting auto boosting, robberies, fugitives, narcotics, traffic enforcement including targeting school bus, pedestrian and bicycle violations, and a whole host of neat things to make the neighborhood safer. Your Department is in the process of planning more operations to increase the safety of your neighborhood. On Valentines' Day your TNT delivered love letters to the Board of Supervisors hearing on the Tenderloin's lack of Postal Service. It was a great effort but a lot more will need to be done. Please continue to throw your support for this cause. A great deal of our drug enforcement has been targeting the area around our Boys and Girls Club so that the kids will have a safe passage between their two locations at 115 and 205 Jones Street. I hope all of the community will join our partnership with these great kids by telling the drugs dealers to stay away and alerting us to their presence. Please come to the Captain's Community Forum at 201 Turk Street on 1
2 Tuesday February 26, 2008 at 6PM it should be a great meeting as the venerable Inspector Joe Toomey will be our guest speaker giving a presentation on Cold Homicide cases. A lot of prizes will be given out during our drawing and as always we will serve great refreshments. I have had many inquires regarding our Police Community Room which is still down. An asbestos problem was created while the workers were removing the concrete flooring and now we are waiting for that issue to be addressed. Mayor Newsom and our Chief Heather Fong went to bat for the Tenderloin months ago securing the money to get our room repaired. Hopefully we can get the contractors back to work and the room back to the community soon. Be Safe! If you see a vehicle with registration expired by more than six months on a public street, me and we will remove the car within 24 hours. Let's get the clunkers off the street.
