Select the network that you wish to have the scale connect to. Using your Fitbit Aria Scale How it Works The Aria will measure your weight and % body fat. Your BMI is calculated and viewable on your Fitbit.com account and in the mobile apps. Weight data is uploaded through your chosen network to your account on Fitbit.com.

of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM For greatest accuracy, the scale should be kept on a hard, flat surface. Use of Aria on carpet is not recommended and may result in inaccurate measurements. To properly measure % body fat, you must be barefoot and balanced evenly between both sides of the scale. Stand with both feet pointed forward, not diagonally across the scale. Batteries The Fitbit Aria uses 4 AA batteries. A scale taking four measurements a day should last approximately six months. The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the Aria. When the batteries are low, you will be notified on your Fitbit.com Dashboard, on your Device Settings page, and by a low battery indicator on the scale's display. When the batteries are dead, just replace them with new AA batteries. Low powered batteries may reduce the functionality of the scale. Display Icons Progress bar: indicates progress of the scale in capturing weight and body composition. Sync: displays when the scale is connecting to the Fitbit server to sync your weight information. 3. a. Wi-Fi Active: signals a connection with the Wi-Fi network. b. Wi-Fi error: signals a failed connection with the Wi-Fi network. If you see this icon please check your Wi-Fi's connection. NOTE: Your scale's internal memory will hold the last sixteen measurements, until the scale properly syncs. 4. Battery low: shown when battery level is 26% or less. The scale will still work but it will not be able to update firmware until new batteries are placed. Stepping on the Aria will show the following on the scale's display:

0 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM Weight The weight units can be changed to display in pounds, kilograms or stone by going to your device settings at /settings/device/scale). To accurately track weight changes over time, try to weigh yourself at the same time each day. It is normal for your weight to fluctuate throughout the day. % Body Fat This reading will only be displayed after you connect your Fitbit.com account with the scale. If you weigh yourself before linking Aria to your Fitbit account, it will show weight but not have the required user information (height, age, gender) to give an accurate body fat reading. A person must be barefoot to get a % body fat reading. Otherwise, the scale will display?%, indicating that the scale is unable to take a users body fat measurement. User's Initials If the user has paired their Fitbit.com account to the scale, their initials should show after a measurement has been taken. If the user has not paired their Fitbit.com account to the scale, or they are not recognized, then the word "GUEST" will be displayed after the weight measurement.

1 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM Notification Messages: SENSING: Message indicates that Aria is gathering your weight information. Generally appears after a period of the scale being unused or when the batteries have been replaced. THINKING: The data gained while on the scale is being used to calculate weight and % body fat. This stage compensates for changes in the components of the scale, to provide the most accurate weight measurements. UPDATING: Indicates that the scale is receiving the most recent firmware. Firmware updates provide the latest features and improvements. STEP ON: Aria has not had a sufficient amount of time to accurately calculate your weight, step back onto the scale and proceed weighing yourself normally.

2 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM STEP OFF: Aria has successfully gathered the necessary data to provide an accurate weight measurement. Please step off of the scale and wait for your measurement readout. Confirmation: The check-mark confirms that the last weight measured was successfully uploaded to the Fitbit server. Syncing Your Measurements The time of your most recent sync from your scale will show on your Fitbit Dashboard and on your Device Settings page. Assuming a working Wi-Fi network, every measurement should upload to your Fitbit account, and is visible in your weight graphs and on the Device Settings page. Weight and % body fat from your most recent measurement will show in the "Body" area of the Dashboard and in the Track Weight section.

3 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM Adding People to the Scale How to add someone Eight different accounts can be linked to an Aria at one time. Anyone who is linked to the scale can invite others to join from the Fitbit.com Device Settings page: or within the ios mobile app. Those invited will be sent an inviting them to the scale. Upon accepting the invite, they'll have the option to either create a new account, or sign in with their existing Fitbit.com account. Once a user accepts an invitation and links their account to the scale, the scale will be able to upload their measurements to their Fitbit.com account. Even with multiple people using the scale, all assigned measurements will be private unless the user has changed their privacy settings to make them visible to friends or the public. If you're not sure what your privacy settings are, you can see them by going to /user/profile/privacy( All people who share a scale become Fitbit friends to one another, so if your weight is shared with friends, other people using the scale will be able to see your weight. There is no "manager" or "owner" of the scale, if multiple accounts are linked. Accounts have equal ability to remove users and assign guest weights. Assigning a Measurement If two people linked to a scale are close in weight (+/- 8 lbs), the Aria will prompt you to select which person is being weighed. In the event the scale incorrectly recognizes a person, scale users have the option of reassigning the "Guest" weight to the correct person. When an individual stands on the scale that is in a similar weight range as an existing user, the scale will display "Tap to Select User", then "Step Off". You should then step off the scale and watch the screen for your initials. If someone else's initials appear first, tap the scale to switch users. When you see your initials appear, wait until the progress bar disappears. The weight measurement will be assigned to you. When the scale does not recognize the user, it will display "GUEST" and show no body fat reading.

4 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM To assign an uploaded measurement to the correct person, go to your Device Settings page ( /scale) ), and on the measurements tab find the weight. You can see whom the measurement is assigned to and reassign the measurement to another account, or to "Guest". When there are unassigned Guest weights, there will be an alert on your Dashboard. Anyone with an account connected to the scale will be able to assign a Guest weight to themselves. Removing Users Anyone who is linked to the scale can remove users from their scale via the Device Settings page: To remove someone, locate the person on the "People" tab, hover over their name, and click the "X" to the right of their name. Someone who is removed can be easily added back by sending another invite . The iphone App Home Screen The home screen reflects your day to day stats for weight and body fat. If you also have an Ultra Tracker it shows your steps, floors and calories burned from the Tracker. The Food Plan is also visible here,

5 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM giving you a visual indicator of your calorie balance for the day. Activity You can track and log exercise and other activities here. Click the "+" sign and search for the activity you want to log, or view previously logged activities. Food Logging food can be helpful for people who are closely managing their weight. You can search for common foods and add them to meals throughout the day. Click the + sign and search for the food you

6 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM want to log, or view previously logged foods. Water The water area lets your track how much water you consume daily, and will also be shown on the app's home screen. Weight The weight area shows your daily weight and body fat stats from the Aria scale and also shows a graph of your weight, body fat and BMI over time. To see the graphs either tap the thumbnail of the graph

7 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM (when looking at Weight in portrait mode) or rotate the phone to landscape (horizontal). You can view your weight history from the last three months. Settings The settings area is where you can manage your scale settings and measurements, and add other people to your scale. The gear icon in the upper left of the home screen will open Settings. Settings > Scale Settings Using the Website The Dashboard The Dashboard is where you find all of your synced and logged Fitbit data. There are two interactive tiles that allow you to view and manage your information. Tile 1 Food Plan A Food Plan can be set up to help you achieve and maintain a weight goal.

8 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM Your Food Plan is based on the calorie deficit needed to reach your weight goal. If you log activity or have a Fitbit Tracker synced to your account, the calorie estimate of what you can eat and what your calorie deficit will be will dynamically increase based on the calories you burn through activity. Your calories burned number includes your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), which are the calories you burn while at rest each day. BMR is individually based on a user's profile data. As long as you are within 50 calories of your daily calorie estimate when you log your last meal of the day, you will have met your Plan's recommendations. A proper diet and exercise is recommended for any weight loss plan. A Food Plan is based on your calorie burn and food intake alone and does not take into account any of your personal factors, such as health. Please consult a doctor before making any changes to your diet or exercise habits. Plan Summary You can view your weight goal and current Food Plan information from here.

9 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM Tile 2 Body You can view your weight, body fat and BMI in various time frames: day, week, month, year, or choose a custom date range. Day: Consists of three sections: Body, BMI, and Plan Summary. The sections are viewable by clicking the arrows on either side of the tile. Displays the weight and BMI of your last measurement compared to your goal, if you have one set. Your BMI is displayed in relation to a standard scale of health for BMI You can update and view your weight goal from here. Week, Month, Year and Custom: These views will show your long term progress for weight, lean mass vs body fat and BMI. If you have a weight or body fat goal, the graphs will show your progress in relation to the goal. BMI Displays current weight in relation to standard scale of health for BMI. Setting Goals Weight and body fat goals are important tools in helping you stay motivated. These goals can be set

0 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM from the "Body" area on the Dashboard. There are arrows in the Body area that carousel through your weight related information: Weight, BMI, Body Fat and Goals. A weight goal and body fat goal can be set in the third panel of the Body area. If you aren't sure what a healthy goal might be, you can view our guidelines for what might be considered a healthy weight or body fat composition. Once you set weight and body fat goals they will appear in your graphs. The weight goal and a progress indicator are also accessible in the upper right of the Dashboard. Tracking Weight, Food, Activity Track My Food To find a food, enter the name in the search box. You can also add a brand name to narrow down the list, if there's a brand. If you don't see a matching result, there is a link to Add New Food in the suggested results list. Click that to add a food.

1 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM At this time, foods you add will only be viewable by you. They will appear in your private foods list. In the pop-up box, click on the Add Nutritional Information button if you want to add nutritional content. If you only want to track calories, enter them and click Add Food. The newly created food will appear in the search results the next time you attempt to log it. The nutritional data for foods logged in our database come from the USDA database, or are provided by individual restaurants and brands. If you log a food for the wrong time, you can drag and drop the food between time slots. Click on the star next to a logged food to mark it as a favorite. Click on a logged food s name to see all of the nutritional information for that food. Hover over a logged food to see the options for adjusting food size and deleting the item. On the right side of your food log screen, you will find any foods you marked as a favorite, your meals, most logged foods and recent logged foods. These lists make it easier to log your common foods. To create a meal: On the Favorites section, click the Meals tab. Click the Create a meal link. Enter a meal name and click Save. The Meal Content page will open, allowing you to change the name and add foods to the meal. To log a previously-created meal, click the name of the meal from your favorites meals tab. After you select a time (Breakfast, Lunch, etc.) any foods in that meal will be added to your food log. A Food Plan can be set up to help you achieve and maintain a weight goal. Your Food Plan is based on the calorie deficit needed to reach your weight goal: burn 500 calories more than you eat per day to lose 1 lb per week.

2 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM If you log activity or have a Fitbit tracker synced to your account, the calorie estimate of what you can eat and what your calorie deficit will be will dynamically increase based on the calories you burn through activity. As long as you are within 50 calories of your daily calorie estimate when you log your last meal of the day, you will have met your Plan's recommendations. A proper diet and exercise are recommended for any weight loss plan. A Food Plan is based on your calorie burn and food intake alone and does not take into account any of your personal factors, such as health. Please consult a doctor before making any changes to your diet or exercise habits. Log Tab: Track My Activities Activity logging can be used to log any exercise. If you're also using a Fitbit Ultra, your Tracker will pick up most of your everyday activities, but you have the option to log those that it does not adequately track, such as weight lifting, cycling, yoga, or any other exercise activities where your body is relatively stationary. If you're using a Fitbit Ultra, the information from any logged activity will overwrite anything your Tracker measured for that time frame. Manually logging an activity will not double-count any information picked up during that time. You can create a custom activity by entering the activity name in the search box and clicking Create Custom Activity. With the custom activity, you can manually enter the calories burned as displayed from a third-party device. When you log the custom activity subsequent times, the site will automatically calculate your calorie burn based on what was entered previously. As with food logging, you can mark your favorite activities by clicking the star to the right of the logged activity. It will then show up in your Favorites list for easy logging in the future. The "Hide this day's calories" link can be used to hide a day's calories if you don't want them included in your graphs and statistics. The calories on historical graphs will show 0 for that day, and your weekly average and other stats will ignore that day. Track My Weight Your weight, % body fat, BMI and body measurement graphs are located on the weight tab. This

3 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM includes week, month, year and full history views. Your graphs will show you your trends over time and your entire history of weight information on Fitbit. For more accurate tracking, weigh yourself at the same time every day or every week. Your weight can fluctuate throughout any given day based on many factors. If you want to set a weight or body fat goal you can do this from the Body section on the Dashboard, or from your Weight tab. Track My Sleep Sleep tracking only works for those users who also have a Fitbit Ultra. Read more about sleep tracking( My Daily Journal On the journal page, you can track your mood/energy and allergies. If you've set your journal privacy settings to public, you can share notes about your day with your friends. Track My Heart Rate You can manually track your heart rate on the Heart tab. Enter Resting, Normal, and Exertive heart rates to track them over time. Individual measurements can be deleted from the Daily Measurements area by putting your mouse over the logged value and clicking the X that appears to the left. Track My Blood Pressure You can track your blood pressure using measurements from a third-party device. Multiple measurements can be entered throughout the day. The average of all your measurements for the day will be displayed on the graph. Individual measurements can be deleted from the Daily Measurements area by putting your mouse over the logged value and clicking the X that appears to the left. Track My Glucose By default, you can enter Morning, Afternoon and Evening glucose measurements as measured by a third-party device. Each of the default tracker names can be deleted. If you accidentally delete a tracker, you can create a new tracker with the same name and your data will reappear. Individual measurements can be deleted from the Daily Measurements area by putting your cursor over the logged value and clicking the X that appears to the left. Premium members can add up to 6 more glucose trackers by clicking on the Add new glucose tracker link. Select a name and a color for the graphs and click the Add button. Custom Trackers Custom trackers can be used to track anything you want to track (e.g. cigarettes, push-ups, beers, smoked, exercised, etc.). Each custom tracker can be set up to accept a number or a Yes/No value. To set up a new custom tracker: Click on the Log tab.

4 of 26 3/20/2013 2:35 PM Click on the Add custom tracker link to the right of the Glucose tab. Enter the information in the pop-up box, including name (e.g. push-ups), unit (rep), unit plural (reps) and whether you want to enter a number or a Yes/No value each day. Community and Groups The community tab contains the forums and groups, which are useful for staying in contact with other Fitbit members. Your public name as displayed on the forum is your Nickname, as entered in your profile. If you have not set a nickname then your first name and last initial will show. Groups allow you to connect with people who share a goal or other interest. There are public groups which anyone on Fitbit can join, and private groups where members must be invited Premium Premium accounts will be most useful if you have a Fitbit Tracker.
