School MAYUR VIHAR 1 SUMMER HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENT CLASS-IX Dear Parents, Summer Holiday homework assigned to the students is multi disciplinary to enable the learners to apply and extend classroom learning to life outside the school by cultivating the following. Thinking Skills Social Skills Creativity Research Aptitude Organization of material To empower women means to empower the next generation. The status of women in the society reveals the fact that the country need to take long strides to empower women to nature their inner strength, creativity and self esteem which is essential for the exclusive growth of the society. This year our school has taken up the project on Women Empowerment and Gender Equality as two major themes. As part of this project we have lined up activities in such a way as to educate young minds about the trauma faced by women community in developed and developing countries. This work will also enable students to understand the injustice faced by women in the global society. It will not only sensitize the student community but also the activists, the public, the parents and other scholars in the society working together and sharing their experiences on a common platform to suggest remedial measures that can be taken at the personal and collective level to ignite the minds towards women empowerment and gender equality There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women Kofi Annan
2 SOCIAL SCIENCE I Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large. 1. Report and Analysis Topic Gender Equality-right path to Development. (Roll no.1-5) Prepare a report showcasing comparison between developing and developed countries on the basis of women education, health structure, job profile, contribution of eminent women in society etc. Report should include data, pictures, graph etc. On A4 size colour sheets 2. Brochures/ pamphlets Designing- To sensitize and to create awareness among people make Brochures/ pamphlets while showing role of citizen, government policies, preventive programs, and ways to promote gender equality etc. (Roll no.6-10) 3. Make calendar based on above theme. (Roll no.11-15) Calendar is an important part of our day to day life. Calendar keeps us informed about the date and future event. The calendar helps us to plan day to day life. Our life seemed to revolve around these calendars. On every page of Calendar mention slogan, picture, cause and ways to promote gender equality must be there so that it will helps us and remind us that we have do work for gender equality which is the now UN goal and we have to achieve it. 4. Model /Poster Topic- Women as equal stakeholder in the nation s progress. (Roll no.16-20) Depicting their role and contribution in economic activities. Government programs like Ladli yojna, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. 5. Cross word puzzles (Roll no ) Crossword puzzles have been entertaining and educating young and old alike for generations. These crossword puzzles are the challenges which every student wants to solve. Cross word puzzle should be based on gender equality and comparative study of developing and developed counties. II PROJECT ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT (Compulsory for all) India is one of the most disaster prone countries of the world.disaster is of two types- Natural and Human induced. Prepare a project report.it should include the following aspects(location, causes, consequences mitigation-structural and non-structural, vulnerabilities, preparedness, rehabilitation plan, role of community, newspaper clippings, pictures, data, case- study etc.) Prepare a Project Report on FOREST FIRE/ FLOOD In the light of the recent incident of forest fire in Uttarakhand /Flood in Chennai write an report on the Topic - Humankind's relationship toward nature. Instructions- The total length of the project report will not be more than 4-5 pages written pages. The project report will be hand written and credit will be awarded to original drawings, illustrations and creative use of materials.

I) Read the novel 'Three Men In A Boat', chapter 1 to 12 and prepare a mind map for each chapter and present them in a creatively prepared book jacket or a scroll. II) Assignment worksheets from the book 'Together with', to be done in the book itself. Reading section: worksheet 7, 8, 9, 10 Grammar Section: pages: 73, 74, 76&77, 97&98, III) To beat the scotching heat, stay home prepare a cool drink and read the English newspaper, story books every day to develop reading habits, vocabulary and language proficiency during the summer vacation. IV) ACTIVITY THEME: WOMEN EMPOWERMENT & GENDER EQUALITY PROJECT : Prepare a creative and colourful brochure/album/calendar on any TWO eminent woman personality of your choice from the countries mentioned below, who have contributed tremendously towards promoting woman empowerment and gender equality. (ii) Pictures and reports. (iii) Projects and extra-ordinary work undertaken. (iv) Contributions to the society. (v) Achievements and laurels. Activities assigned roll no.
