1 MAPLE CITY WINGERS GWRRA Region D Michigan Chapter W APRIL 2009 The Chapter W TEAM Chapter Director Craig White (517) Assistant Chapter Directors (517) Chapter Educators Fred & Randa Probst (517) Secretary Pat Szymanski (517) Treasurer Deb Bailey (517) Member Enhancement Mark Szymanski (517) Newsletter Editors Ken & Patti Kintner (517) Wing News Reporter Suzy Stoddard (517) Brag Book Ken & Patti Kintner (517) Sunshine Person Randa Probst (517) Goodies Dick & Karen Papworth (517) Awards, Plaques, Pins Dan Bailey (517) Chapter Ticket Sales Kent & Annette Naugle (517) Fun Goddess Mindy Rapp (419) Public Relations (517) (Continued on Page 2) Craig White We are only a few days from the official start of riding season. I hope that the weather warms a few degrees, so that we do not have to wear our super warm clothes when trying to ride. I would like to get a little more serious now. It seems that some are getting upset or unhappy with what or how GWRRA is doing. We need to remember that this organization was formed for Fun, Friends and Knowledge. Because of our non-profit status, there are certain things that we have to do. With prior administrations, some of the items that we need to do were over-looked. Now under our new leaders, both in the region and district, these are being brought back to the fore-front. Other chapters have not been able to deal with the changes and have decided to move on. I would hope that if any of you, Chapter W members, have a concern with what is going on or how things are being done, that you would come to me and voice your concern. I cannot promise that I can fix or change the concern, I can only promise to listen and to talk to whoever I need to, to get your voice heard. Both Tom Rushman and Ron Miller have open door policies and want to hear your concerns before they are major hurdles to go over. I do not know of anything that our membership is concerned with. I ask that if there is anything, please come to me and let s work through it. On a brighter note, Randa and Karen have promised the same great breakfast that we have all come to expect and the weather, hopefully will cooperate. It will be nice to see most of our SnowBirds back from their warm winter homes and hear all about their travels and fun times. After the breakfast we will be having our monthly gathering, so please plan on staying. I will keep it short, similar to what we do after the Toy Run. I have heard from many Chapter Directors that they are planning on coming and supporting us in this fund raising event. We need to keep this in mind this riding season and look for events that other chapters are doing and go and support them as well. There are events going on most weekends, both Saturday and Sunday, that provide opportunities for us to ride our motorcycles and help support our friends in other chapters. Scott Griewahn will keep us all informed as to when and where these events are. With the economy the way that it is, most events are cost effective and you can have a lot of fun for little money. If we all plan on one or two events this summer, we will be able to show our presences at most of the events. One more request, mark your calendars for July 30 Aug 1. This is the Michigan Rally and we are planning on camping. So dust off your camping equipment and join us there. Also, Wing Ding in Tulsa, Oklahoma is coming up and our own members are competing in the International Couple of the Year. Let s go and cheer them on and make this the second International Couple from the Michigan District in a row. Lets all enjoy another great riding season!!! Sincerely Your Chapter Director, Craig White Page 1

Some have yet to hit the road. Spring brings with it the rebirth of all the plant and animal life that slept through the winter months. Our bikes also come to life with anticipation of the new year. We are busy with maintenance and adding new safety chrome and lights. Some of us have upgraded with new bikes or a new trailer. You can just feel the excitement in the air. As you read this our annual breakfast has just come and gone. Vicki and I give all of you a BIG THANK YOU, and a job well done. This chapter W always comes through big time. All of you are the reason this chapter exists. The Toledo workshop and spring officers meetings are over and some of the seminars not only will help with GWRRA, but can be applied to every day. More and more the world is going electronic and digital. If you have not yet checked out the GWRRA web page, TRY IT OUT. The amount of information available about all the divisions will surprise you. In an effort to save on expenses, you can read your newsletter on line. The more we get on line, the more money can go to other things. Back to the riding! The last count I had, 34 bikes will be heading to Tennessee. This is a great opportunity to show our guests riding with us what Chapter W is all about. This is time for the guys to sharpen up our skills before our loved ones join us. This will also be my first trip with our trailer. It s not that I couldn t pack for 5 days on the bike. I thought we might need the extra room for any new goodies we might pick up at the rally. So guys, if you need to bring something back, I think I ll have some room. Ed & Vicki 2009 Couple of the Year Page 2
3 Fred & Randa Probst Level I Safety by Commitment Level II Safety by Education Level III Safety by Preparedness Level IV Safety by Enhanced Commitment and Preparedness The GWRRA Rider Education Program (REP) is intended to make the motorcycle environment safer by reducing injuries and fatalities and increasing motorcyclist skills and awareness. The REP does not propose to have all the answers. However, our close-working relationship with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), as well as additional GWRRA programs and studies, has provided a wealth of information for use in establishing a comprehensive Rider Education Program. Through Commitment, Education and Application, we can reduce our accident rate significantly. The motorcycle community is already realizing many positive benefits from the GWRRA Rider Education Program. Through the efforts of the Rider Education Officers and participation of the membership and others, we will reach our goal of establishing the safest motorcycle environment possible.
