On November 13 th, the Lions held our second annual Veterans Dinner. There were 170 people in attendance. We were also honored to have two Gold Star mothers, Perri Henry and Freddie Jackson as our guests. We would like to thank all of the Lions, LEOs, and local community members who made this dinner possible. The Honor Guard was from the Vandergrift VFW and we were honored to have Major William Brine as our guest speaker. PDG Bill Morgan served as our MC for the evening. It was truly special to have men and women from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, and the war on terror as honored and valued guests. COOKS this Month December 12th Christmas Party Attention: We need people to sign up for making desserts and dinners for our meetings. Call KL Colleen. Her activities include Student Council (Treas.), Senior Class (Treas.), Prom Committee, Spanish Club (Treas.), P.R.I.D.E. The Apollo Area Lions Christmas Party is on December 12 th at 6:00 at the Fire Hall. There will be a gift exchange. The gift should be between $15 and $20. Let Debbie Flickinger know as soon as possible who is coming and how many are in your party. See you there. Congratulations to our newest member! Lion Cindy Boehke pins her daughter, Heather Jones, with her Lion Membership Pin. Lion Cindy also received a Centennial Sponsor Pin which was presented to her by King Lion Colleen. Past District Governor Tom Toland presents the Heart of a Lion Award to Rob Jackson. Rob has been a great help in the community for the past several years including his work on the Bicentennial as well as our featured speaker for the First Veterans Dinner. 4 The Lion Fountain Update New Deadline -February 28th We are still taking orders for bricks for the fountain. If you can think of someone who would like to have a brick for a loved one or just to commemorate something or someone, please have them get a copy of the form. Apple Dumpling Sale The Apple Dumpling sale was a big success. We sold 244 apple dumplings and made a profit of over 200 for the club. Congratulations to the chairperson Lion Marge Kaminski for a job well done. Let s see if we can hit 300 next year. *********Christmas Train Raffle ********* This year we are raffling off a Lionel Pennsylvania Keystone Special Train Set and as a Bonus the winner will get a Pittsburgh Trolley. As in the past, the tickets are $2.00 each and the winner will be chosen on December 21 st from the There are presently 18 books still out. ALL TICKETS MUST BE TURNED IN ON DECEMBER 12th AT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY. Community Calendar 50 years and counting. Lion Gaylene was the chairperson of the Calendar Committee this year. She said we had a profit this year of over $1000. She also received a call from the company, Gordon-Bernard, congratulating our club for 50th years of fundraising with the calendar. This is a great accomplishment. It is hoped that we will be able to continue this fine tradition of the Apollo Area Lions Club.

5 Upcoming Projects and Events Meeting dates this month is December 12 th. (Christmas Party) Fruit Bag packing and delivery December 17 th at West-In-Arms 3 rd Street. The time will be given at the Christmas party. The Train Raffle goes off on December 21 st. New Year s Eve Dance and Party December 31 st. The Lions International Convention will be held from June 30 th to July 4 th in Chicago. The District will be sponsoring a bus to the convention. Rooms in the PA Hotel will run $156 per night. This is a great opportunity to see an International Convention and to celebrate 100 years of Lionism. Registration Fee through January 13, 2017 is US$130 From January 14 through March 31, 2017 the regular registration fee is US$180, April 1, 2017 through onsite registration, the fee is US$200. The entertainment for the International Show at the Convention will be the Beach Boys and Chicago. This should be a great time. Membership News All Lions should be recruiting for new members. We need to keep our numbers growing so we can do more for our communities. Pick up a membership application and try to get someone to come to a project or a meeting to see what we are all about. Our job is to serve our community and our world, so that should be the approach. Find people who want to make their community better. Our next Initiation of new members will be on January 23 rd. If you want to become a member of the largest service organization in the world, see any Lion member and ask him or her how easy it is. Do you like helping others? Are you community minded? Do you enjoy fellowship with others? If you answered YES to these questions, then you should look into Lions Clubs. Contact any Lion member to find out how you can get involved.

6 The Apollo-Ridge High School LEO Club under the direction of Lion Leigh Anne Wenckowski had a collection of food items and donations. All together they collected over 1000 food items and over $250 in cash. Congratulations on a great project which will help the Apollo-Ridge Food Bank. Leo Club Motto Leadership Develop skills as a project organizer, time manager and team leader. The Middle School LEO Club under the sponsorship of Lion Christa Mika held a Hat Day where students paid to wear a hat. All the nearly $100 in funds raised will go to help fight childhood cancer. Super Job. Experience Learn how teamwork, cooperation and collaboration can bring exciting changes to your community and the world. Opportunity Make friends and feel the rewards of community service.
