Financial Summary Fundraising Summary Board Members and Funders M i s s i o n S t a t e m e n t Project K.I.N.D. provides no cost, quality health care through local health care professionals to identified school children, ages 5-18, who reside in designated areas in Riverside County and who are ineligible for federal or state assistance and are without private insurance. Vision: It is the right of every child to have access to quality health care. The medical community will make a substantial difference in the lives of its children through volunteering their expertise and services. Our mission will best be accomplished through collaboration with other community institutions. It is our responsibility to advocate for children s health care needs. None of us has gotten where we are solely by pulling ourselves up from our own bootstraps. We got here because somebody bent down and helped us. -Thurgood Marshall, U.S Supreme Court Justice

2 Page 2 Annual report 2010 Letter from the Medical Director: Project K.I.N.D. has been providing services to school aged uninsured children since It was started by a small group of healthcare providers who recognized that many KIDS have very limited access to healthcare and are IN NEED of DOCTORS. Project K.I.N.D. has been expanding rapidly since then through collaboration between local health care providers, school districts, public health agencies, and local businesses. In 2010, over 500 uninsured children were provided with medical, dental, and vision services. Due to today s economic climate, the number of uninsured children is rising. This can lead to significant health risks that impact the ability to learn and the very future of those involved. Project K.I.N.D. provides free quality care to children who are ineligible for federal or state assistance, do not have private health insurance, and are from low income families that cannot afford to pay for care. Project K.I.N.D. staff is also certified to assist families with Medi-Cal/Healthy Families applications. Project K.I.N.D. was able to increase it s accomplishments and expand significantly during We added 35 volunteer healthcare providers. Through website exposure Harold W. We met our goal by providing access to wellrounded quality healthcare for children in need. We do not intend to rest on our laurels. We are looking forward to continuing to expand services to impact more children with comprehensive healthcare assistance. They may need us now, but ultimately the future will be in their hands. We are very grateful for the financial support from our many donors and the donated time and services from our many healthcare providers. Our services to the community: Project K.I.N.D. strives to better serve the uninsured children of Riverside County by further reducing the gap of health services. In 2010, we provided services to over 500 children. We have a growing network of physicians, dentists, and optometrists who donate their time and services to help children by providing same or next day appointments. Project K.I.N.D. teams with Riverside County school nurses, to monitor the child's health progress and provide assistance with case management. The primary purpose of Project K.I.N.D is to identify a sick child, take care of his/her immediate medical or dental needs, and then get them healthy and back into the classroom to continue to learn. We recognize National Children s Dental Health Month (February) by coordinating dental clinics between February through May. We are able to provide x-rays, exams, cleaning, fillings, extractions and other restorative care as necessary. By offering this to our community, we can reach out and fulfill their dental needs, minimizing delay in care due to barriers to access. We recognize National Eye Health and Safety Month by creating a Vision month. By raising funds every fall, children who are uninsured in Riverside County receive an eye exam and glasses free of charge. This event has become so successful that we now hold it for three months (October through December) instead of one.

While the coordination of the donation of medical services is done superbly I am particularly impressed with the case management services provided. A referral to Project K.I.N.D. does not end with the professional visit. Project K.I.N.D. staff makes sure the post visit needs identified by the practitioner are addressed and appropriate referrals for medical and social services are made. I have personally witnessed the difference Project K.I.N.D. has made in the lives of children they have served. With the greatest respect and gratitude I commend Project K.I.N.D. for their service to the children of Riverside County California. Project K.I.N.D. has provided my children with their dental and medical needs. I am grateful that this program is no cost to me. The staff is very helpful and patient when scheduling my children s appointments. I would like to thank all of those who volunteer their time and knowledge to those that do not have insurance. We also raise funds through direct mailing and a sweet sale. In Fall 2010, we raised $3,665 dollars to provide children with eye exams and glasses. Donations are an important part of the funding of our services to the 160 participating schools. We greatly appreciate our donors, both financial and in-kind. Without you, we would not be able to provide the care we do!
