The purpose of the parks advisory committee is to make recommendations to the governing body concerning city owned parks and parkland. The committee shall also act as a tree board to recommend regulations relating to the planting of trees, shrubs and other plantings upon city owned property; to promote beautification of the city and the protection of the public health and safety; and to provide for the preservation and removal of diseased tree, shrubs and plantings. Goals (Attachment 1) 1. Nall Park Amenities Objective (.pdf attached under separate cover) 2. R Park Bike Training Course/Asphalt Removal Objective 3. Note: Nall Park Play Equipment redesign, evaluation of Cooper Creek, and evaluation/redesign of Juniper Pocket Park are all further reaching goals (potentially as 2019 Objectives submitted for the 2020 budget) A. Budget total monies $ a. -$xx.xx for shelter posters displayed at 1/22 Council Workshop b. Nall Park: signage i. Cost of 2014 signage at R Park: $6,043 City paid half and Sunflower Foundation paid half ii. Midway signs provided estimate (Attachment 2a; Attachment 2b is 2AMarketing estimate) Design cost differences: $645 for Midway; $660 for 2A Marketing iii. Design cost falls under Jose s purview (does not require Council approval); if we use Midway, this falls under Keith s approval authority iv. Updates from Jon Dunn (Attachment 3) c. Park2Park run event: financial support from all City committees is being requested (Attachment 4); $500 from Parks? B. Carpenter Park

2 1. 3 benches and 1 trash bin are on-site at Public Works; installation estimate? Fall 2018? C. Granada Park 1. Plinths were removed and are being stored by Public Works 2. Arts has indicated that they wish to relocate the plinths once restored to Carpenter Park D. Nall Park 1. Significant amount of brush remains around the trail; Jose reaching out to Brett Schoffner to address 2. Issue of people letting their dogs run loose at the Park this is not on or because of the trail, but with more usage, this is more of a problem a. Both Animal Control and Roeland Park Police are regularly at Nall Park; what else can we do? Can we put something in the Roeland Parker to remind people that there are no public spaces in Roeland Park that are off-leash? 3. Reports of people riding across the whole park to pick up speed to hit the trail 4. At least one report of another person getting hurt on the trail 5. Patch of asphalt on the asphalt trail near the restroom that was demolished during the restroom, shelter, and drinking fountain remodel will be fixed this year 6. Any updates on the No Motorized Vehicles ordinance Tom Madigan was/is working on? E. R Park 1. Any updates on shade structure design renderings for bid III. New Business A. Forestry 1. Dead tree removal at Nall Park in February completed 2. 2 anonymous donations of trees and memorial plaques; trees will be planted spring 2018 a. Nall Park: green gable black gum (Tom Madigan & family) b. R Park: lacebark elm (Joel Marquardt & family) B. Arbor Day 1. May 5 Nall Park (time?) 2. Honoring tree donors from the previous year (2017); someone needs to own this (get poster made, etc.) 3. Arts was invited, no response thus far 4. Sustainability is going to do the Sunflower contest; any word on BikeWalkKC?* 5. City can allocate $375 (or cost of band [usually around $400]); Events to allocate: $375; Parks to allocate: $375 C.
