1 10th Annual Patterson Dental Education Day At the Kalahari Resort and Conference Center Friday, October 25, 2013 Encounter dentistry s hottest topics while cooling off at America s largest indoor waterpark! Don t miss the Manufacturer Fair with over 40 vendor partners! Bring your entire team!
2 Select one course from the MoRninG SESSion (STARTING AT 8:30 A.M.) COURSE A: Digital Wave Presented by Dr. Peter Gardell Today s dentist is facing burdens that didn t exist just a few short years ago: pressure from insurance companies, competition from large corporate dental mills and their deep pockets for advertising, and labs sending out work to China and the questionable quality of the restorations produced. Today s technology can level the playing field, allowing us to successfully compete against these forces facing us. We can produce high quality, cost effective esthetic restorations quickly and efficiently. Our patients benefit by receiving the highest level of care, while the office benefits by allowing us to predictably manage the costs associated with this care. We will discuss the various technologies available to the dentist, how to successfully implement them in one s office, and the benefits of the technology on the patient care we deliver. You will be shown how you can successfully ride the digital wave, avoiding being crushed by the massive wall of information that has built up around us. COURSE B: The 4Cs in Solving the Caries Puzzle Presented by Lillian Caperila, RDH, BSDH, MEd If you expect a puzzle to be complete, all of the pieces must come together precisely right! The 4Cs include CAMBRA, ICDAS, CASE-based evidence and Calcium/Phosphate technologies. This dynamic program engages the audience in rethinking their current assessment and treatment protocol while the caries prevention paradigm is changing in our day-to-day practice settings. Interactive discussion will employ the doctor, hygienist and staff as they learn the best approach in implementing the CAMBRA assessment in determining those patients at lowest to greatest risks for dental caries. Upon viewing several cases spanning all age groups, the dental staff will be better equipped to prevent and reverse the caries lesions. Dynamic products will support the prevention strategies, allowing patients to become caries free throughout their lifespan. COURSE C: Innovations in Direct Restorative Dentistry (Space limited for this hands-on course. Team member welcome with Doctor) Presented by Dr. Mike Scoles Composite resin as a direct restorative solution for anterior and posterior restorations continues to grow in the industry. With new technologies entering the market that address bulk filling techniques and self-etching alternatives, it is easy to get confused. What materials will you advocate for use in your practice? What has the literature been revealing on materials currently used? Should practitioners change their current techniques? This lecture/hands-on course will help make sense of all of the products and techniques available in today s marketplace and will focus on materials and their applications. COURSE D: 2013 OSHA and CDC Infection Control for Dental Offices (Don t let what happened in Oklahoma City, happen to you!) Presented by Nan Kosydar Dreves, RDH, MBA Dental offices can update OSHA compliance and infection control standards of care by attending this entertaining, yet educational course, which will include lecture, audience participation, handouts and sporadic laughter. Information will be presented to assist your office in satisfying the required OSHA Annual Training of the federal Bloodborne Pathogen Rule and infection control continuing education requirements for your state. The new global labeling system and chemical hazard communication standard training required of all offices by December of 2013 will be included. Free product samples for everyone and fabulous prizes galore!

5 COURSE E: Re-energizing Your Hygiene Program Presented by Sheryl Nieds,RDH and Noelle Hille, RDH If you are like most practices, you have a hygiene team that provides prophys day in and day out. This can be frustrating for you, the owner, because your hygiene department has become the loss leader in the practice. What if your hygienists could be production leaders? Increasing your hygiene revenue by $250K a year is easier than you think. We will discuss how to maximize your hygiene department by offering a mix of comprehensive and productive services to your patients. We will also review the communication skills necessary to achieve this level of comprehensive patient care, and delve into that gray area of periodontal disease. What do you do with those bleeding 4mm pockets? When is just a cleaning appropriate? With years of coaching experience, Noelle and Sheryl have the tools to help you make your practice healthier, not only for your patients, but also for your bottom line. I d like to add an associate, but how do I go about doing that? I know what s happening in my office, but what is happening in other offices in the state? Who am I competing against to add an associate or sell my practice? Is my practice worth anything? How long does it take to sell a practice?
