2 Education Mission Statement We are committed to advancing the highest standards of skin care through continuing education activities. The Connecticut Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery Society Semi-annual Scientific Education Programs are dedicated to improving and protecting our patient s skin health by presenting advances in the diagnosis and treatment of skin disease. Our target audience includes dermatologists and their staff, including office managers and medical assistants. Activities range from didactic lectures to participatory activities, and whenever possible are approved for CME credit. We expect that our audience will incorporate best practices, as presented, into their daily practice. Specific competency, performance and patient outcome goals that will result from the program will be proposed by the presenters and evaluated by the participants.

8 SPEAKERS JEAN BoloGNiA, M.D. Jean Bolognia, MD, is Professor of Dermatology at the Yale University School of Medicine. She has served as President of the Medical Dermatology Society and the Women s Dermatologic Society in addition to serving as Vice-President of the Society of Investigative Dermatology. She has also been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology, the International League of Dermatological Societies, and the American Board of Dermatology. In the latter organization, she has been the Chair of the Certifying Examination and is the incoming Vice-President. Jean is the senior editor of the textbook Dermatology and an associate editor of the textbook Dermatological Signs of Internal Disease.
9 AMy PAllEr, M.D. Dr. Paller is the Walter J. Hamlin Chair and Professor of Dermatology, Professor of Pediatrics, and Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded Skin Disease Research Center at Northwestern University s Feinberg School of Medicine. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Brown University and her medical degree from Stanford University. Dr. Paller completed residency training in both Pediatrics and Dermatology at Northwestern University and her postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Paller has served on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Society for Investigative Dermatology, the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, the Women s Dermatologic Society, and the American Dermatological Association. She has been President of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology as well as President of the Society for Investigative Dermatology, and is the President-Elect of the Women's Dermatologic Society. She is currently is a Director of the American Board of Dermatology and a member of the Dermatology Residency Review Committee. An author of more than 350 original publications, Dr. Paller is an NIH-funded investigator who has
10 served on the NIH Board of Scientific Counselors (NIAMS). Her clinical interests focus on genetic disorders of the skin and cutaneous immunologic disorders in children, including inflammatory skin disorders. Her laboratory is focused on two major areas: a) the role of keratinocyte gangliosides in skin cancer and diabetic wound healing; and b) topical delivery of sirna-nanoparticle gene suppression as therapy for skin disorders (including psoriasis). Dr. Paller has also directed the Pediatric Dermatology Clinical Trials Unit at Northwestern for the past 15 years, and has been the lead investigator on several landmark trials in pediatric skin disease. She is co-editor of several leading textbooks of dermatology, among them Fitzpatrick s Dermatology in General Medicine (Ed. 7), Pediatric Dermatology, and Hurwitz s Clinical Pediatric Dermatology. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, and serves on the editorial boards of several other journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Paller is currently Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Eczema Association, and serves on the Medical and Scientific Advisory Boards of the International Psoriasis Council, Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types, Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association and the Pachyonychia Congenita Project.
11 AlAiN rook, M.D. Dr. Alain Rook is presently Professor of Dermatology and Director of the Cutaneous Lymphoma Program at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania where he joined the faculty 26 years ago after being Senior Investigator in the Laboratory of Immuno-regulation at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the NIH. The CTCL program at Penn, which cares for more than 1000 active patients, has served as a substantial stimulus for a translational research program that has been NIH funded for more than 20 years. Dr. Rook has had a specific interest in the immune dysregulation associated with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma as well as the development of novel therapeutic approaches to treating advanced CTCL. Dr. Rook is the author of over 250 scientific articles and chapters.
