2 Memorial Hospital s fitness instructors rotate fitness classes on a monthly basis to give participants a wider variety of exercise options. Monthly memberships are available for $35 ( series classes are not included). For a monthly calendar of fitness class dates and times, visit our website at and click on Classes and Events. Cost: minute classes, $3 per session minute classes, $5 per session Cardio/Strength/Core Classes Boot Camp: Discover your inner drive and mental toughness with this full-body, cardio and strength workout. Cardio Core: Carve just 30 minutes out of your day to push your cardio limits and sculpt your core with this high-intensity, interval workout. Cardio Step Fusion: This class mixes high-intensity, interval training with step to get the ultimate cardio workout. Circuit and Work It!: This class helps improve cardio-respiratory fitness and muscular strength by alternating basic exercises at various stations around the room. Equipment includes steps, exercise balls, bands, and weights. Fitness Classes Crunch at Lunch: The perfect combination for those who want to get your workout in over lunch. This class has strength, core, and a little bit of aerobic exercise mixed in. Come and spend your lunch with us! Pump 2.0: This class focuses on developing strength and toning for all major muscle groups using a weighted barbell and hand weights. Step It Up: Jump start your week with a major calorie burn! A moderate- to high-intensity step aerobics class to get your heart pumping and body moving. This class may be offered as a 45-minute or 1-hour class. Triple Threat: A workout combo that includes cardio, core, and toning each lasting no more than 10 minutes. 1

3 Get Fit 55+ Classes This set of fitness classes is geared toward those aged 55 and older; however, all ages are welcome! Get Fit 55+: Designed to improve balance, coordination, strength, and flexibility. Get Fit Shuffle: This fun-filled class focuses on cardio exercise by learning popular dances both old and new! While this class begins on a fast beat, it slows down near the end with flexibility and balance training. Get Fit Flex: This class is great for those who are looking for a lowimpact stretch. Come and enjoy exercises centered around using chair exercises and resistance bands while listening to calming, instrumental music. Every muscle in your body will be stretched after this class! Get Fit Yoga: This class is designed to improve balance, flexibility, and strength. We practice yoga through the gentle use of Chair Yoga. Participants are not required to get down on the floor, so all skill levels are welcome! Jazzercise Classes *Jazzercise Dance Mixx: Torch fat, sculpt lean muscle, and crush calories with this high-intensity workout that mixes dance-based cardio with strength training. Fresh, pulse-pounding music and body-blasting moves bring intensity to transform your body, boost your mood, and ignite your energy! *Jazzercise Lo: Get a total body workout that brings all the dance fitness fun without the hop. Use the muscles not momentum to charge up your metabolism. Set to hit music, this is a complete, fullbody workout for all fitness levels. *Jazzercise Strength45: Forge the tight, lean body you re looking for while the pulse-pounding playlist distracts you from the burn. Fire up the muscles all of them in this 45-minute, hard core, musclesculpting, strength workout. * These classes are offered as a series; participants pre-register for the same day each week for one month. Cost: $20 for 4 classes $25 for 5 classes (where applicable) Yoga Yoga Flow: This class focuses on gaining flexibility and strengthening our bodies by building dynamic tension in our muscles while practicing balance techniques. 4 Diabetes Children s Fitness *Yoga Fitness: A total mind-body workout for cardiovascular conditioning, strength, flexibility, muscle balance, relaxation, and breath work. Appropriate for all ages with at least a beginner fitness level. Required equipment: water and comfortable clothing. * This class is offered as a series; participants pre-register for the same day each week for one month. Cost: $30 for 4 weeks $37 for 5 weeks (where applicable) Safe Sitter A research-based program dedicated to teaching adolescents life and safety skills for being home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students will gain knowledge and confidence while learning nurturing child care, basic first aid, rescue skills, and personal safety through a fun, interactive course. Adolescents ages are invited to register. This year-long program follows the Centers for Disease Control guidelines. This program includes information on weight management and exercise, in addition to providing support for lifestyle changes that are necessary to achieve better results and prevent diabetes. The start date for 2019 is February 25. 5 4Maternity Center Change the Life You Live: Diabetes This series of classes offers the opportunity to achieve optimal health while living with diabetes. The classes are facilitated by Certified Diabetes Educators who teach participants how to control their diabetes using medication, self-monitoring, nutrition, and physical activity. Classes are offered for both those newly diagnosed with diabetes and those who have had diabetes for a while. Our personalized curriculum can help participants achieve better diabetes control. Participants are encouraged to bring a family member or friend. Pre-registration is required. The Creighton Model FertilityCare System (CrMS) of natural family planning techniques are introduced and discussed in this free informational session. The CrMS is based upon a couple s knowledge and understanding of their naturally-occurring phases of fertility and infertility, and has been proven to help couples struggling with infertility to achieve pregnancy or to avoid pregnancy. It is recommended that both the mother and her support person attend the class. Dates: January 2; March 6; May 1 Time: 6:00-7:30 p.m. Cost: FREE to moms who deliver at Memorial or $15 To Register: or Baby Behavior Using current research on baby behavior, our instructors will help you better understand your baby. Topics include infant sleep, feeding cues, and crying. Class is highly recommended before giving birth, however it is also helpful 1-2 months after the baby is born. 7 Cardiovascular/ Stroke Screenings Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is the narrowing or blockage of the vessels that carry blood to your organs and limbs. Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) occurs when the large blood vessel that supplies blood to the abdomen, pelvis, and legs becomes large or balloons outward. Most strokes are the result of blocked arteries by blood clots or plaque build-up. Memorial Cardiac Services provides screenings throughout the year for each of these. Stroke Screening Cost: $40 To Register: PAD Screening Cost: $10 To Register: PAD/AAA/Stroke Combo Screening Cost: $90 To Register: Health Screenings Employers and groups may schedule screenings at their site. Screenings include weight, body mass index (BMI), waist measurements, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, blood pressure, glucose, chemistry panel, and tobacco status for only $39 per person. Health risk assessments may be added for $18 for online version; $20 for paper version. Additional screenings include colon cancer screening kits, $8; PSAs, $20; body fat, $4; carbon monoxide, $6; and saliva nicotine, $ Call , option 1, for details. Friday Health Screenings These monthly community health screenings, held at Memorial Southside Office (1100 W. 12th Ave., Jasper), enable participants to track their total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and glucose (blood sugar) levels via finger stick. A 12-hour fast is required prior to appointment time. Pre-registration is required. 8 7Health and Wellness Personal Wellness Coaching Coaching is a series of conversations with a wellness coach to discover why and how to improve health. Together the coach and participant will set realistic wellness goals that focus on nutrition, fitness, stress, or general health concerns to feel healthier and reduce risks for illness and disease. Coaching consists of a 30-minute initial session, followed by 20-minute sessions. Sessions are once a week by phone, person-to-person, or Skype. Coaching Cost: $18.75 per session for 6 to 12 weeks For More Information: , option 1 Hearty Hearts Club This is a special program for cardiac rehabilitation patients and families. Guest speakers discuss a variety of relevant topics including post-rehabilitation diet, lifestyle changes, medication, etc. Date: March 19 Time: 6:30 p.m. Cost: FREE For More Information: Heart Fit: Food Matters to the Heart A four-week class providing information that will help to improve cholesterol levels and blood pressure control through changes in the diet. The primary focus is to reduce saturated fat intake to lower LDL ( bad ) cholesterol and keep HDL ( good ) cholesterol up. The class is facilitated by a Registered Dietitian. Topics covered will include: nutrition, physical activity, and weight management for a healthy heart. 9 Bariatric Support Group For individuals who have had or who are considering weight-loss surgery. Provides support, information sharing, and education. Dates: 2nd Monday of each month Time: 5:30-6:30 p.m. Cost: FREE For More Information: Alzheimer s Disease and Dementia Caregiver Support Group This support group allows caregivers to come together to share knowledge and experiences in caring for loved ones who are affected by these illnesses. Dates: 1st Wednesday of each month Time: 6:30-8:00 p.m. Cost: FREE For More Information: Living With COPD Support Group Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) restricts air flow, causes trouble breathing, and includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. This group provides tips for living with this illness. Dates: 1st Tuesday of each month (January group will meet January 8) Time: 6:30-8:00 p.m. Cost: FREE For More Information: Grief Support Series This five-week support program is for anyone who has suffered a significant personal loss. It is designed to educate, offer reassurance, and comfort. 10 Support Groups Spiritual 9 Celebrate Today A program of healing support, education, and enjoyment for anyone touched by cancer. Date: April 29 Time: 6:00 p.m. Cost: FREE, but pre-registration is necessary by April 15 To Register: Creating Hope for Cancer Patients Creating Hope is an Indiana-based, non-profit organization that uses creative expression as a coping mechanism for patients with cancer. These sessions are designed for cancer patients, families and caregivers. Art materials and an instructional book are available; no previous art experience is needed. Dates: 1st and 2nd Tuesday of each month (January session will not meet January 1) Time: 5:30 p.m. Cost: FREE, but pre-registration is necessary To Register: Tobacco Cessation The Indiana Tobacco Quitline has trained Quit Coaches to guide you through the process of quitting. There is no cost. Calls are answered seven days a week between 8 a.m. - 3 a.m. Call QUIT-NOW ( ) or call to be referred to this program. Quit Now The online Quit Now course is a 12-week online program that will guide you through the process of quitting tobacco. Each week the online Quit Now course will have new information and videos to help you make the necessary changes it takes to quit using tobacco for good. There is no cost for this program. To enroll in the online Quit Now course, please contact Memorial Hospital s Health and Wellness Department at Made to Crave A 6-week, video-based Bible study and nutrition program for women. The program helps you find the want to as you make healthy lifestyle choices. Pre-registration required. 11 Advance Care Planning What would happen if you were in an accident or had a sudden illness and were unable to speak for yourself about the kind of medical treatment you did or did not want? Advance Care Planning involves having conversations ahead of time about the important decisions that one might face at the end of life. Various advance directives will be available and explained by trained facilitators at this informational session. Dates: February 26; March 27; April 25 Time: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Cost: FREE, but pre-registration is necessary To Register: or rrexing@mhhcc.org The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in CPR and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association, and any fees charged for such course do not represent income to the association. The following courses are offered as classroom-style training courses. The dates listed are when the courses are being held at Memorial Southside Office. The Health and Wellness Department at Memorial Hospital can also provide these same courses at your worksite. Please call , option 1, for more information. Heartsaver CPR with AED This American Heart Association course is designed for lay personnel who serve as rescuers as part of job responsibilities or for the general public and have direct access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Skills taught include CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults, children, and infants. In order to complete the course and receive the course completion card, participants must successfully complete a skills evaluation. (Also see Online Training on the next page for additional options.) Dates: January 10; March 7; May 21 Time: 5:30-9:30 p.m. Cost: $65 ACP CPR and First Aid 10

12 Heartsaver First Aid with CPR & AED This American Heart Association course provides information on how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes of an emergency until professional help arrives. Skills taught include CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and infant CPR and relief of choking. In order to complete the course and receive a course completion card, participants must pass a written first aid test and successfully complete a skills evaluation in CPR and AED. (Also see Online Training on the next page for additional options.) Dates: February 5 and 12 June 11 and 18 Time: 5:30-9:30 p.m. Cost: $85 CPR and First Aid Heartsaver First Aid This American Heart Association course teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrive. Students learn duties and responsibilities of first aid rescuers; first aid actions for medical emergencies, including severe choking, heart attack, and stroke; and skills for handling injury and environmental emergencies, including external bleeding, broken bones and sprains, and bites and stings. This class includes only first aid and does not include training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). To register, please call , option 1. Basic Life Support (BLS) Basic Life Support (BLS) is offered for licensed and certified health care professionals such as health care providers, dentists, nurses, paramedics and EMTs. This American Heart Association course covers CPR for all ages, two-man CPR, bag-valve mask ventilation, relief of responsive and unresponsive FBAO (choking), and use of the AED. Participants must successfully complete a written test and skills evaluation to receive a course completion card. (Also see Online Training on next page for additional options.) Dates: February 11; April 1 Time: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Cost: $65 11

13 Online Training The American Heart Association now offers blended learning CPR courses that feature online CPR courses followed by an on-site skills evaluation. To do online courses, go to and click on Course Catalog to select the needed course. Once the online portion is complete, print the certificate, then call Memorial Hospital s Health and Wellness staff at (option 1) to schedule a skills evaluation to complete your certification. Skills evaluations are scheduled and offered for Heartcode BLS, Heartsaver CPR with AED, and Heartsaver First Aid CPR with AED. Cost for the skills evaluation portion is $30. Basic Medic First Aid With AED A nationally certified course that teaches first aid, CPR, and basic AED operation and troubleshooting for use in the business/industrial setting. Dates: January 15; February 7; March 12; April 5; May 9; June 7 Time: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Cost: $65 Medic First Aid Refresher With AED A refresher course to review the proper techniques for Basic Medic First Aid with AED. Dates: January 29; February 19; March 26; April 18; May 16; June 27 Time: 8:00-11:00 a.m. Cost: $50 Medic First Aid Bloodborne Pathogens Learn how to reduce or eliminate the occupational risk of bloodborne pathogens. 14 First Aid Lifeline Stop the Bleed This program, presented by Memorial Hospital s Ambulance Services, focuses on the immediate response to bleeding by recognizing life-threatening bleeding and appropriate ways to stop the bleeding. The help given by an immediate responder can often make the difference between life and death, even before professional rescuers arrive. Lifeline works in conjunction with the home telephone service or wireless system, and operates 24-hours a day/7 days a week. Lifeline with AutoAlert not only provides all the benefits of the standard service, but also places a call if a fall is detected.
