2 Illinois Ducks Unlimited June 2013 a word from our chairman galen l. johnson, state chairman The enthusiasm and celebration continues through the spring events in Illinois. I am constantly amazed by all the accomplishments of the Illinois volunteers. The spring event results have set us on another record pace for this calendar year. We are up in almost every goal in our state plan. I know you will continue this momentum through the fall and we will have another good calendar year. The major donor program in Illinois is also off to a good start. Our goal this year, while a little more conservative than last year, is still a reasonable goal of 37 major donors. Right now we are at 11. I m sure most of us know someone who has been generous at the events and also contributed to a sponsor membership every year. These are the people who make good candidates for a major donor. If you feel uncomfortable discussing this with them, then introduce them to your Regional Director. They will be glad to talk to the potential candidate about the program. And don t forget the second type of donor opportunity: joining the Feather Society. This is an easy way to become a major donor by including DU in your estate planning by mentioning DU in your will, or naming DU as a beneficiary in your life insurance policy. The Illinois DU State Convention promises to be an exciting time in Februry The convention is undergoing a major transformation. First of all, we are moving to the Embassy Suites ineast Peoria. I am leading a team of outstanding Illinois DU volunteers from across the state, and we have been tasked by the state leadership team reinven the state convention. This team of talented volunteers have been hard at work for months and we are ready to share our vision for the new Illinois DU State Convention. The convention will have a new theme, venue, outings and events, as well as expanded audience. forms of communication bout this year s convention.
