ABOUT US We are from the Community Arts Council of Vancouver (CACV), a non-profit organization with a mandate to support community arts across the City.

2 ABOUT US We are from the Community Arts Council of Vancouver (CACV), a non-profit organization with a mandate to support community arts across the City. We are offering a special opportunity that is available to students at your school as part of one of our programs, Reframing Relations. Reframing Relations is designed to support learning in secondary school classrooms about reconciliation in Canada. Through experiential workshops, a pair of artistfacilitators, one Indigenous and one non- Indigenous, work with classes to engage students understandings of reconciliation while modeling positive intercultural relations. Our facilitators are professional artists in genres as diverse as poetry, movement, visual arts, and theatre. This year, several schools across the Vancouver School District participated in this program by hosting workshops in classrooms, including Magee Secondary, Charles Tupper Secondary, and Van Tech Secondary. We are inviting students who participated in these workshops to attend a half-day gathering at the Museum of Anthropology for an immersive experience that will bring approximately 40 students together from across the district. We believe that there need to be more opportunities for youth to dialogue with their peers in a safe, creative space about these issues. 1

3 The Reframing Relations Youth Circle Date: Monday May 28, 2018 Open to students: Grades 9-12 who have the desire to go further in making meaningful contributions to reconciliation Location: Museum of Anthropology OUR INTENT is to elicit students own ideas, questions, hopes, and fears about the relationships between our peoples, in order to imagine the kind of future we want to create. Leading the day Leading the day will be our 6 facilitators offering a variety of arts-based processes. Students will share food, create together, and meet like-minded peers in an inspiring environment. This event is taking place in partnership with the Museum of Anthropology as well as the Vancouver School Board Aboriginal Education Department. Indigenous Engagement Consultant Robert Clifton and Amanda White, VSB Knowledge Keeper from the Haida Nation will be in attendance to witness and contribute to the event. We believe that attending this event will provide students the confi dence, cultural awareness, and leadership skills necessary to take the next steps on their journeys of reconciliation. These students will be able to come back with new knowledge to enrich their school communities. Food We are excited to announce our partnership with the newly opened Mr. Bannock - Vancouver s First Indigenous Food Truck. We will providing lunch for participants. Honorarium We will be offering each participant a $50 honorarium for their attendance during the days event. 2

4 GETTING THERE Located at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, MOA is situated at 6393 NW Marine Drive, in the northwest corner of the campus. By Transit The 25, 33, 41, 43, 44, 49, 84, 99 B-Line and 480 buses arrive at UBC Exchange Bay 2 a 15-minute walk from MOA. Get off at UBC Exchange Bay 2 (the last stop) and walk northwest. The 4 and 14 buses arrive on and depart from University Boulevard a 20-minute walk from MOA. The C18 and C20 UBC shuttle buses depart from UBC Exchange 1. Get off at NW Marine Dr FS Cecil Green Park Rd. By Car From downtown, take 4th Avenue, Broadway (9th Avenue), 10th Avenue or 16th Avenue west to UBC. Once at UBC, watch for signs guiding you to MOA, located in the northwest corner of the UBC campus on NW Marine Drive. Paid parking is located in front of MOA and at the Rose Garden Parkade across the street. Parking can be purchased by cash or credit card. Full transit information at the Translink website. 3
