McMillan Rd., Ste. # Boise, ID The Edelweiss Club meetings take place the 4 th Tuesday of every month at the Legion Hall located at 22 W. Broadway in Meridian. We had a good year, new members joined, we had some nice events, but most of all, we have a club, that we can be proud off! Uschi Message From the Vice President Dear Edelweiss Club members, While we the board members were at our last meeting, we took a moment to review the past year and set about putting the new calendar together. We discussed the assortment of things that have been good for the club in the past and a variety of things to consider changing in the new year to come. As many of you may recall, in the recent past the club was on the brink of folding entirely due to low participation. We are currently lucky to have many new members who are willing to share their energies and ideas that can help the club to continue and we all hope, to prosper. The more we talked the more we wanted to let the membership at large know that we respect those founding and older members, that we are working with and through the ground rules previously established for the Club. We have a few changes in mind and are always looking for new ways that will help to keep this unique part of the treasure valley thriving. We are working hard to keep you aware of activities and events shaping the club. You participation is a vital part of keeping the Edelweiss Club alive and well. 2 Meeting Minutes Our regular membership meeting was held on November 24 at the Meridian Legion Hall. The following officers and board members were present: President Uschi Draeger, Vice-President Kathy Rundquist, Treasurer Trish Trader, Secretary Horst Draeger and board members Ginny Hayes, Natalie Rundquist, Rudy Benecke and Dagmar Nieland. 33 members were in attendance. Horst read the minutes of the last meeting. Rudy made a motion to accept them as read, and Lori seconded it. Treasurers Report: no change since last month. We had a new guest: Vadim Ignachik, who is interested in becoming a member. There was no old business Under new business: Tina announced that Santa will arrive at our Christmas Party at 4 PM. The Christmas decoration will be provided by the Legion and will be in place for our Christmas Party. For the party: Tina will provide the Gluehwein, Karin Ruttke will again prepare 25 bags for our children. A big Thank You to both! Roswitha suggested to have the children sign in with name and age. Karin suggested to have the children gather around Santa and read the Christmas story to them. A big discussion started about former Christmas Parties and how to conduct this one.. Three members were appointed to be on the nominating committee: Ginny Hayes, Herb Machule and Pauli Wanamaker. Horst stated that Ingeborg Albritton called and offered to donate German books to the club. Olinda announced that Margaret Reed is doing very well and would like to have people join her for a Kaffee Klatsch. Ph: A motion to close the meeting was made by Karin Ruttke and seconded by Jack Nieland.

3 Our Christmas Party We had set up for about 70 members and just about every seat was taken. Petra Pixler brought a few German ladies as guests, maybe we can have them join the club. The hall was nicely decorated and the tables were set up lengthwise which really provided a nice atmosphere. The club provided four turkey breasts and a good size ham which were prepared by Kathy and Uschi. And our members brought a lot of good food which was enjoyed by all. Santa arrived at 4 PM and had the children and some adults sit on his lap to tell him their wishes for Christmas.Then we had some musical entertainment with Lyman and Regina s grandson who played the bagpipe, then Roswitha s daughter Christine sang a few German Christmas carols followed by her sister Michelle who played the saxophone. As a special treat the Syringa Chorus entertained us for about 30 minutes with some Christmas Carols. It is an all ladie s chorus and Uschi is a member of it. This was really enjoyed by all. By all indications, everybody had a good time. Before I forget, a big thank you to all who helped set up the hall. You know who you are, I will not mention names because I am bound to forget someone! One item worth mentioning: we had asked the members to let us know how many would come. We had some who called and others who did not. Please read your newsletters, so that for the next event we can plan accordingly. Other News Everybody is going to be busy during the holiday season, so our next event will be our FASCHING TANZ on January 26 at the Legion Hall. We hope to have as many as possible come dressed up silly or nice. There will be no business meeting, let s have some fun instead!! In Germany it is the silly season with balls [dances] all over and in some cities they have large parades with everybody dressed up. Our next regular meeting will be held on February Dues: Our dues will have to be raised slightly next year due to increased mailing and printing costs plus rental of our meeting facilities. The new amounts will be: Single member $20 Couples $30 The dues for 2010 are due and payable up to the end of March.

4 Other News In order to comply with our by-laws, we need to have a meeting in January to nominate members for the different positions. Our Fasching Dance is not a time for business. Please try to make this meeting to have your voice heard. The Date is January 7. It is a Thursday but the only day we were able to get. Same place and time as usual. So far we have the following candidates: For President: Uschi Draeger Vice President: Open Treasurer: Jack Nieland Secretary: Horst Draeger Board members: Ginny Hayes Rudy Benecke Wally Benecke Dagmar Nieland Kathy Rundquist We apologize for this short notice. This should have been taken care of at our last meeting. Several members have expressed the wish to have a new membership list. I will include the latest version in this newsletter.
