1 0 Intown Centre Newsletter EPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2017 ISSUE 50 Manager s Chat Leanne Gibbs September Let s all take a moment to grab our breaths, another year is quickly disappearing and for us we are now moving into a busier period of time. I started off the month attending a lovely manager s breakfast at Back Beach Café on the 5 th, catching up with other agencies and talking to people face to face is always nice. INTOWN CENTRE MISSION STATEMENT In Town Centre Incorporated is a day centre facility that provides meals and promotes caring relationships and positive participation for all members of the community. This month we welcomed a new Tafe Student Brad who will be with us for the next few months doing a Certificate 4 in Community Services. Sadly we said goodbye to our work experience student Georgia, who was wonderful to work with. Generally in September I set structure planning for the next six months as we attend and have so many events. We finished off the month with the last public holiday until Christmas The Queen s Birthday. October On the 3 rd I attended a workshop at SW Volunteer ask Rob anything well known speaker Rob Jackson sharing his knowledge of volunteering. Sadly we need to look at ways to recruit new people to do all types of duties, even here at the centre. Saturday 7 th saw some kicking their heals up and socializing at our annual High Tea Fashion for the centre and The Salvation Army, over 59 people attended, and thanks go to all those that helped on the day, big thanks to Yvonne who plans the whole day. The Board of Management held a general meeting and our AGM on the 11 th, focus is on cash flow sustainability for operating the centre. Friday the 13 th the centre was closed to support the Mental Health Week walk, park, eat day, which was held at the Big Swamp Bird Park, we gave out food rolls and soup from The Soup Van. Many attended and we all had a lovely morning. Anti-Poverty week started on the 16 th, we closed the centre after morning tea on the 19 th to support other agencies, free soup and lunch was available. Also on the 16 th was the official launch of the Christmas and Back to School appeal. Finally, we closed out the month well under way for the Christmas Appeal, Back to School Appeal, Centre Christmas Lunch ( ), Staff Christmas Party. Check out the rest of our news.. Board of Management The Centre AGM was held on October, we would like to welcome the new members Mark Walters, June Foulds and Paula Hempstead. This year has been very busy for all at the centre volunteers, board members and supporters. I am proud to say all went above and beyond to make sure the centre is again the heart and soul of the community. Looking forward to what we can achieve in David Bailey Chairman of the Board. A special thank you to all the volunteers who are the backbone of the Intown Centre, we all work well as a team to run a really successful centre. MENTAL HEALTH PARK/WALK/LUNCH We closed the centre to support this event, approximately 50 people turned up to do a lap of the Big Swamp Park, then enjoy some rolls proved by the Intown Centre and Soup from Bunbury Soup Van. 4 HIGH TEA FASHION PARADE We had a wonderful afternoon of dressing up and skipping down the red carpet, followed by a mouthwatering high tea. The event supported two local charities and a wonderful afternoon was had by all who attended. A big thank you to all that helped and extra special thanks to Yvonne, who organized the event. Page 4
