1 Working Together to advance the Status of Women Worldwide The Update A Message from the President. Zontians, My tenure as President is already coming to a close; it s been an action packed and absolutely fabulous two years. We have done a full calendar of service, advocacy, and our signature fundraising event, LunaFest. During this time, we have increased our membership by 8 new Zontians and we are on a good stride of bringing in new members. We have a lot of activities projected for the upcoming year and hope to see you helping to promote our cause. Thank you for the opportunity to lead you these past 2 years. I look forward to our future and growth. Kim Rapacz December : Holiday Party May 1, 2016 Beautiful decorations were done by Di and Dee. Food was provided by a woman owned business, Hawaii Island Café in Waimanalo. We were honored to have Melody Bell who recently retired from the Air Guard, and Tamah- Lani Noh talk to the group. We sang and acted out the 12 days of Christmas that my tutu gave to me and put together goody bags with items from the Tech show and candies for the HI-Core event. The bags were done it seemed within minutes with everyone s help. Who would know it would be so much fun. Check out the fun on our Face Book page. Holiday party: friendship, games, singing, and guest speakers. HI CORE This was the 17 th year for the clubs participation in the HI-Core event. Zontian Rene Mansho requested Dawn Ige, the Hawaii Governors wife, to participate as a judge. She helped to judge the skits put on by the students. Zonta Club of Leilehua Page 1

Our judges sat along the side and evaluated the skits on originality, participation, style, and fun. It was a lot of fun. Below our club Zontians, Di, Denise, Karen, Lani,and Lynn help with the food set up. Friends of Zonta Joe, Carol, and Grace help serve. Karen Foissotte represented the Club at the District 9 conference. She brought back a Zonta International certificate of recognition for club member Mary Jane Lee for her over 60 years service to Zonta. Members prepared food for the students and teachers. 3 New member Corner JanuaryService We welcome a mother/ daughter team Liana Kim and her mother Ninon Rynerson. Liana is a Public Affairs Officer for the 311 th Signal Command and works at Fort Shafter. Her mother has recently re-located from Florida to be on the island. We also welcome Stephanie Asahan who is a registered nurse and joins us from Kapolei. Vice president Dee Sawyers and membership chair Karen Foissotte initiate our new members. Annual Mother s Day Bags for Leeward Domestic Violence Shelter. President Kim dropping off our donations to Child and Family Services. Members and friends scrubbed the statue to a shining glow. The bags complements of Pali Momi Women s Clinic who also donated items in the bags. Bags were filled with blankets, soaps, hygiene items, salad cups, and much much more from our members. 3

4 Area Conference: April 27, 2016 Shout outs: Women Under Wraps: Unveiling Zonta was this year s area MEETING CHANGE: Now 4 th Tuesday of the month still at IHOP Pearl City. conference theme hosted by the Maui club. Club members, Ethel, Kim and Karen attended. Ari South, Honolulu Designer Project Runaway Finalist, All Star From Under Wraps was the guest speaker. 5 Date: March Sunday, March 6, Location: Sacred Hearts Academy Our 2d annual LunaFest was another success. We raised money for our charity donation this year for the US Veteran s women s shelter, Jane M. Klausman Women in business scholarship and for Breast Cancer. Youth challenge girls receive mentoring from our crown holders. Viewers taking their seats. The title holders joined us again this year and were great visibility of what women can accomplish. The youth challenge teenagers in bright yellow shirts enjoyed talking and learning from the Women s tables where again we had Women in business, Women in the military, Women in health and others where you saw mentoring and networking with one another.
