2 Dear Friend of Providence, Every year we feel blessed to have your support and commitment, and 2013 was no exception. Because of your generosity and dedication, Providence in Oregon took many important steps forward in our ongoing journey of providing excellent, compassionate service to our patients and communities. We hope you enjoy and are inspired by the stories in this annual report all of which you helped make possible. Whether it s a nursing center resident enjoying greater mobility, a mother who knows her child is well cared for while she receives medical treatment, family members who feel blessed knowing their loved one is receiving excellent care near the end of life, a father whose sudden stroke is quickly assessed and treated close to home, or a young woman who faces breast cancer with new hope and possibility all of these stories, and many more, exist because you care. Thank you seems inadequate, but it is heartfelt. Providence literally couldn t be Providence without your faith, enthusiasm, support, talents and energy. Thank you wholeheartedly on behalf of all those we serve. 4 2013 Highlights Providence Willamette Falls Medical Foundation n Help for the heart Providence Willamette Falls Medical Foundation achieved a major milestone in 2013 by completing its fundraising campaign for the hospital s Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic. The first clinic of its kind in Clackamas County, it s scheduled to begin serving the community in October The Providence Willamette Falls clinic is an expansion of the successful service currently offered at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland and was made possible by the gifts of many generous Clackamas County donors. Cardiac rehabilitation is a medically supervised exercise and nutrition therapy program that helps to dramatically reduce cardiac patients risk of a second cardiac episode. n Mental health services for children and adolescents Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center opened the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit in 2013, the first new inpatient psychiatric facility in Oregon in more than 20 years. The space offers secure outdoor recreational space as well as many indoor spaces to house music therapy, art therapy and other innovative therapies to serve about 570 children a year. Providence Willamette Falls Medical Foundation has launched the firstever fundraising initiative for children s mental health services at Providence to help bridge the gap in program funding. This new fund will ensure a full complement of innovative therapy programs is available to serve the needs of our patients and their families. Above left: The Gala at the Falls fundraising event brought friends together, including Rosie Bloom and Norma Barney. The annual event brought in more than $76,000 in 2013, which will be used to complete the Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center. Above right: Dr. Jonathan and Karen Hoppert attend the Gala at the Falls dinner, which was attended by about 185 community members and generous donors.
