1 Chartered in 1987 December 2017 Message from the President Our December meeting is always my favorite meeting of the year for many reasons. It s our Holiday Party and we have so many fun things going on just for you and our scholarship recipients! EWI of Chattanooga promotes personal and professional development. And, we support Connections, Careers and Communities in so many ways. We make connections to enhance our careers and the careers of our scholarship recipients. This makes a big difference in the communities we live, work, worship, shop, attend schools and volunteer in. Thank you for the support you and your member firms make to EWI of Chattanooga. The funds we raise from ewigras and pecan sales fund our Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST) scholarship programs at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), Chattanooga State Community College (CSCC) and Southern Adventist University (SAU). We are honored to have all of them as a member firm. We will distribute the funds in December, and invite the recipients to attend our December meeting. You will not want to miss their stories and heart-felt thank you for the scholarships they receive from EWI of Chattanooga. During this holiday season I am grateful for the personal and professional development opportunities, business partners and friends I have made throughout our organization. I am proud to be the EWI representative for Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union for the last 24 years. Please continue to help EWI of Chattanooga grow our membership. 2 Upcoming Meetings How to Register 1. Navigate to ewichattanooga.com, log in, and click on Events. 2. Click on the Register button for the December Chapter meeting. 3. Fill out your registration information.. 4. Confirm your reservation. We ll see you at 5:30 p.m. December 12th. If you invite guests to the meeting, please have them register for the meeting themselves. The registration process is the same for non-members, minus the log-in. If you participated in the secret pal program this year please bring your gift/card/etc. to the December meeting to reveal your secret pal and find out who your secret pal was for If you don t know what a secret pal is you will find out all about it at the December 12 th meeting and have an opportunity to sign up for this fun program for Bring One Get One! Bring a wrapped Christmas ornament to the December meeting for an ornament exchange. The rules are: Don t spend over $10 Bring an Ornament, Get an Ornament. It s so much fun!!! 5 Let s Grow Our Membership! We are participating in a chapter incentive program, which encourages all EWI Chapters to grow and to grow BIG! The time period is from November 1, 2017 to March 31, The chapter with the highest percentage of net growth in each category will win a LCAM 2018 registration. We are in competition with chapters of 26 or more member firms. We Want to WIN!!!!!!! Who do you want to become a member with EWI of Chattanooga? 6 Frances Cannon and EWI... As I begin, I want to apologize to everyone in EWI for not noting Mom's membership and love for your organization in her obituary. In the emotion of the moment, you always forget something, and I hate it was EWI. I realized the omission Monday morning when I read the obituary online and it was too late to amend... Wow... what memories! Pecans - LOTS of pecans for sale. (Mom always made an ample gift of pecans to me!) Mom's pride in EWI and the scholarships you provided. Mom and I talked every night of the world, EXCEPT EWI meeting nights. She would tell me the night before the meeting, "Don't forget, I'll be late tomorrow because it's EWI so don't call." Then she would tell me what the program was going to be about. On the next night's call, Mom would go into great detail telling me about the meeting; what you had for dinner (whether it was good or not), the program (whether it was good or not), and who won the door prize. She loved the meetings, but even more, she loved being with all of you. And the yard sales... I remember coming to Chattanooga to see her before the yard sales. I couldn't believe the amount of items in our basement! (I secretly enjoyed it though; I got "first pickins' " and yes, I paid the exact amounts for the items that Mom specified. One year I helped load everything in trucks and cars of various members who were transporting items for the sale. SO MUCH STUFF!! I smile at the thought of stopping by one of the sales at the old K-Mart parking lot on Hixson Pike; Mom was "hawking the goods" to everyone for any price she could get, and loving every moment! Mom also loved the travel; I think the Banff trip for the EWI convention was her favorite. The picture in her obituary was taken at an EWI function. She had such pride in all the members and the friendships she made there. It is with pride that she served as President. Let me thank each of you for what you gave to Frances Cannon - love, joy, laughter, a sense of meaning, a purpose to work for, and lots of wonderful memories.
