Not included in that number over 600 dependent children of our homeless/housing insecure guests.. Homeless prevention: The overall numbers include 38 adults plus 22 minor children given financial assistance to spare them from becoming homeless. Of those served, 90% were African-American 4% were Latino 4% were Caucasian 2% were other J U N E 3 0, T O J U L Y 1, Over 800 women received help 44% of the guests served. Over 800 guests worked with a case manager. Housing Placements Number of guests placed in Permanent Housing: 81 Overnight Shelter: 92 Transitional housing: 11 Not only are record numbers of guests being housed, they are maintaining their independent living: Four months after they were housed, over 90% of those placed in independent housing retained that housing. Behind the Numbers: One Changed Life Moving from West Virginia to Chicago, Delia had been sleeping in her car for six months while looking for a job. When she was hired as a dietary aide at a nursing center, she came to Southwest Chicago PADS. Maurice Morales, PADS Housing Specialist, connected her to a management company which approved her for rental of a one bedroom apartment. PADS provided financial assistance to help cover her security deposit, the final hurdle to her overcoming the privations of homelessness.

2 R E P O R T From the Executive Director P A G E 2 Dear Friends of Southwest Chicago PADS: As you look over the changes, activities, and accomplishments noted in this report, I hope you come away with a better idea of the extensive services we provide for those who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. These supportive services include immediate care an evening meal, a change of clothing, a chance to take a shower, a blanket. Six nights a week from mid-october through April, teams of volunteers offer that care to as many as 35 persons per night. In the summer, in the daytime this support is offered three times a week. The basic care is a means to an end. Our volunteers encourage guests coming for basic services to make an appointment to see a case manager during our daytime hours. By so doing, they gain an advocate who can help them lead more stable lives. Some will be helped to secure permanent housing in a short time; for many this may take months, even years. Thanks to a special program headed by a housing specialist, SWCP is helping many more individuals and families end their homeless state than it was able to do a few years ago. Your support makes such vital changes possible. We could not provide an array of services to over 2,000 guests without three case managers and volunteers. (See outcomes on page 1.) Our many volunteers provided more than 10,000 hours of service in Valued at the current rates set for volunteer work, that adds up to about $180,000 in the value of their donated work.. Another accomplishment last year was board development. Our board of directors added three new members, elected new officers, and are engaged in strategic plans for our agency. As the details on page 5 show, SWCP continues to be blessed by non-government grant support and fundraising efforts. Individual donations, however, were down from the previous fiscal year. While our audit shows a deficit, we are confident that, with your help, we can end the current fiscal year in the black so that we can serve more people. November 2014 As it has for several years, The First Methodist Church of Oak Lawn put on Soup Supper. It featured lots of homemade soups and desserts. with all proceeds going to Southwest Chicago PADS. In-Kind Contributions Many individuals, businesses, schools and church groups donated food, clothing, equipment and supplies. Two examples among many: As he has for several years, Tom Boney donated a side of beef which is delivered packaged and frozen for our volunteer cooks to use. Like heat-seeking missiles, Ken and Marie Wester go to garage sales and thrift shops all year long and fill their van many times over with whatever is in short supply for our guests. This includes blue jeans, hoodies, white socks, sleeping bags, and much-needed steel-toe work boots.

5 P A G E 5 Happenings November 2014 Barbara Jilek, a recently retired real estate appraiser and a volunteer at PADS since 2003, joined PADS board of directors. December 2014 PADS hosted its annual Christmas Bazaar for our guests and their families. Businesses and members of churches contributed toys and new clothing which were distributed by volunteers, including former PADS guests. January 2015 Michael Morgenstern, Finance Manager, Presence Health, joined the board of directors March 2015 Our 9th annual Trivia Night fundraiser featured a buffet dinner, trivia games, a live and a silent auction. June 2015 Attendees at a volunteer appreciation party were taken on a tour of the new PADS memorial garden which has been created behind the 3125 West 71st St. building where case managers work with guests.
