1 KAMSS Quarterly Fall e-dition October 2018 President s Report It is hard to believe that 2-years have come and gone and it is time to hand the baton to Danica Donecker. I am excited for the future growth of KAMSS under Danica s leadership. She has served the KAMSS members well with providing different types of education to the members. Thank you for the work you have done. To the other KAMSS Board Members thank you for all your support and helping me out when needed. It truly takes a TEAM to be successful. In review of the past 2-years, KAMSS membership has grown; new volunteers; members took the opportunity to provide feedback on surveys; and an increase in the number of nominations for the KAMSS in Excellence in Service Award. It has been rewarding to see the number of members who are engaged and responding to their peers questions. The KAMSS Board standardized the scoring method for nominees in Excellence in Service Award based on the criteria and will continue to review and edit the Excellence in Service Award criteria under Danica s leadership. You may have noticed the KAMSS membership application has been redesigned in hopes the additional information gathered and shared amongst the members will be beneficial in building relationships with other Medical Staff Professionals. I hope each of you will take time to educate others about your profession during the National Medical Staff Services Awareness Week; and the role of patient safety that medical services professional provide. It matters not where you work, from Hospitals to Managed Care Organzations and beyond, each of us impact patient safety by doing the right thing even when it comes with a cost or lack of understanding from others. What you do each and every day matters! I would like to thank you for all you do! I would encourage each of you to continue to learn and grow in your profession and consider volunteering at the state or national level. Your thoughts and opinions are valued at the state and national level as each of you bring a unique perspective based on your experiences. I hope I have served you well as your President and I look forward to serving the next 2-years as the Immediate Past President of KAMSS. 2 I want to thank everyone for their support during my tenure as President-Elect. I have thoroughly enjoyed putting together the educational programs for KAMSS. Being a member of KAMSS and NAMSS can provide great opportunities and one of those is the NAMSS Annual Conference. I was lucky enough to attend the conference in Long Beach. The weather was great and I enjoyed all the sessions and networking that it provided. As a final note I want to congratulate the incoming President-Elect and Secretary and hope that they enjoy being on the Board as much as I do. Congratulations Tracy. In 1992, President George Bush issued a proclamation designating the first week of November as National Medical Staff Services Awareness Week to acknowledge and thank medical services professionals for playing an important role in our nation s healthcare system. We are a vital part of the community s healthcare team and are dedicated to making certain that all patients receive care from practitioners who are properly educated, licensed, and trained. For more information about our week, NAMSS has prepared informational materials for newsletters, flyers, posters, etc.

4 NAMSS recently held their 42 nd Annual Educational Conference in Long Beach California. KAMSS had good representation at the conference. (for those attending the KAMSS meeting in November, information from this conference will be shared) During the NAMSS Business Meeting, the Chair of the Certification Commission of NAMSS, Ropizah Ervin, presented the NAMSS Golden Key Award to Karen Reed Coffman, CPMSM, CPCS. This award is given to a NAMSS certificant who demonstrates a strong commitment to professional growth, as well as enthusiastic support of the NAMSS certification program. Congratulations Karen.
