We traveled south from Pleasant Hill to San Ramon and before we knew it, we were at Clemen ne s on me. The staff at Clemen ne s was prepared with a private area reserved for us. Lots of good food, and camaraderie. We heard posi ve comments from everyone, especially those who had never been there before. A number of folks said they planned to come back on their own and enjoy another Sunday Brunch there. The New Orleans ambience and décor of Clemen ne s was fes ve. I heard that quite a few people really enjoyed the beignets.all in all, it was a fun project and went very smoothly. I had most of the planning done before Christmas, so when I came back from Georgia, all I had to do was make sure that people signed up and paid. Everyone paid, so no problems there. I think all had a good me. When I think back on it, I certainly did love being with my Diablo A s family for yet another tour and more food! Your Tour Leader, Adell Kirk MotoMeter 1 February 2017

2 Along the Back Roads with Bob A er all this rain we may be in for some sunshine this weekend and a chance to fire up the Model A s. We are very lucky that our weather makes it conducive to enjoying our hobby. Our first tour of the new year proved to be a great day to enjoy our cars and have a special meal, thanks to Adell Kirk. Murph, our 31 SW Town Sedan, was able to accommodate the Borba s, who I learned were life-long residents of Concord, and we were able to share a lot of history of old Concord. Ron, Caryn and I remembered some of the old hangouts and were able to share stories about them. At our last Board Mee ng we decided to ask the membership for their preference as to a charity to donate to during our two potluck dinners and the amount of said dona on. What we have done in previous years was to donate to the Contra Costa/Solano Food Bank, matching the raffle money up to $ The biggest reasons for choosing them are the geographical boundaries and the amount of people served. I have learned that this organiza on is well run and has very few paid employees and uses dedicated volunteers to keep this charity running. Please keep this in mind if you have sugges ons for other worthy causes. Also, any new member interested in a MAFCA membership which includes the Restorer Magazine, see a board member and we will make available to you the form for applying. This is for a one year free membership. The only restric on is you must be a first year NEW member. 6 ACCC NEWS from Herb Neumann Last month I talked about two bills, SB1 & AB1, to support transporta on funding, an increase in the gas tax and the Vehicle Registra on fee. The following is taken from the latest ACCC E-News. It contains an ar cle en tled Taxes Not the Answer to Road Repairs, wri en by George Runner, a member of the State Board of Equaliza on. Here are some points from the ar cle: Gov. Brown says he has a fix for our roads: a 42% increase in gas tax, (Diesel is higher), and a $38 increase in the vehicle registra on fee! He claims the increases are needed because repairing CA highways can t be funded with exis ng revenues. Why not? Budgets are about priori es, the governor and legisla ve leaders have a say on how tax dollars are spent. Brown thinks the state can afford a $68 billion high speed rail project that s ll hasn t found a way to deal with the Tehachapi Mountains. In addi- on to about $7 billion in annual fuel tax revenues, the state also collects a carbon tax from oil companies that bring about another $2 billion. This tax is passed on to us as an increase at the pump. The non par san Legisla ve Analyst s Office es mates this adds - at a minimum, 11 cents per gallon at the pump. Where is all the money going? Huge amounts go to projects that don t improve roads. Much of the carbon tax income goes to the high speed rail fund. Sadly, that is all by design. Many Democrats envision a society where everyone is reliant on public transit. There are alterna ves to raising taxes. The public should call upon the Governor and Legislature to first consider the following ideas: Audit Caltrans for savings, use the carbon tax income to target traffic gridlock and deferred road maintenance, enact legisla- on to ensure transporta on dollars are spent on actual transporta on projects. Find your rep here h p://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/ TOUR DETAILS Oakland Aviation MuseumTour Wayne & Peggy English, Tour Leaders Saturday, February 25, 2017 The North Field was built in 21 days in 1927 to meet the deadline for the Dole Race from California to Hawaii. It was dedicated September 27, 1927 by Charles Lindbergh. Oakland became the departing point for several historic flights because of its long runway for fuel-heavy aircraft. One of the exhibits is the Solent Flying Boat featured in Indiana Jones. Come join us for a tour of the Oakland Aviation Museum and find out about the rich history of the Oakland Airport. We will meet at Best Buy at 8:45am and leave at 9:00am for a leisurely ride through the back roads of Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, Orinda, Moraga and Oakland (weather permitting with our old irons) for a tour of the museum (possible photo opportunity with the planes) and lunch at a local restaurant. Admission: $9.00 for club members. There will be a signup sheet at the February meeting. PLEASE NOTE -If you plan to a end a tour and have not signed up, please let the tour leaders know your intent. This will ensure no fica on of any last minute tour changes. MotoMeter 6 February 2017

8 New Club Shirts? From the Mailbox For some years there have been negative comments on our yellow club shirts. Usually the complaint is that the person does not look good in yellow. True! Not everyone can wear the color yellow. There have been some blue chambray shirts mixed in and this has changed the club from wearing the same shirt to two different shirts. To get back to the old way and to see if there is any interest in it, I would ask you to do a small survey for me: Would you like to have matching shirts? Yes Would you like the new shirts to be Cotton Knit Would you like for the color to be Forest Green No Or Dark Blue Please fill this out and send it or give it to Lynn Grady. Your votes count!
