3 california chapter A Message from the Chapter President Welcome to Sacramento and Experience the Energy! Our conference brings us together again and we continue to Experience the Energy! This year, our state capitol gets to play host to our 2013 Massage Education Conference at The Sheraton Grand Hotel to provides us a chance to catch up with near and dear friends, make some new friends, take exceptional education workshops, and learn what is going on within our profession, here within California and across the country. For those who arrive early on Friday, the Greater Sacramento Unit will host a Welcoming Reception to kick off this conference. Come for a very informal gathering to say, Hi and meet our Keynote Speakers, Presenters, and Your Chapter Board. We will not keep you out too late, since we will begin bright and early Saturday morning. You get to play an intricate part of this conference. It is very important for you to attend and to participate in this meeting. You decide who our leaders become. You give direction as to how our finances are distributed. You get to tell us, your leaders, what you would like to see happen within your association and how to shape our profession. You get to do this at our 2013 Chapter Business Meeting on Saturday. This year, we have two Keynote presentations. Our first presentation on Saturday morning is from Chris Voltarel, a past California Chapter President, who now continues to volunteer within our association as the National Chapters Relations Chair. Our second presentation is from one of our presenters, James Waslaski, author and international instructor will have his opportunity to speak to us on Sunday. On Sunday, join us for a special presentation by the Chapter Government Relations Committee,which will bring us the latest updates from Sacramento and what we have to do to protect and advance our profession. Beyond the formal presentations and training, Experience the Energy offers a unique opportunity to discuss new ideas and create important relationships with your colleagues. AMTA-CA is proud to present this conference in Sacramento and looks forward to working with you to grow our profession in California. Early Conference Registration Exhibitor Fair Opens Our Keynote Speaker: Chris Voltarel Chris Voltarel has been an AMTA member for almost 20 years and has been volunteering since 1995, first at the Chapter level and currently at the National level. She started on the CA Chapter board as Southern Representative and then served as CA Chapter President from 1998 to She also served as GR co-chair and delegate within the Chapter. Chris is currently the National AMTA Chapter Relations Committee Chair, a position she has held since Chris will be talking with us about the benefits of volunteering and leadership, from a personal and professional perspective.

8 Conference Presenters James Waslaski is an Author & International Lecturer who teaches approximately 40 seminars per year around the globe. He has served as AMTA Sports Massage Chair and FSMTA Professional Relations Chair. He has also developed eight Orthopedic Massage and Sports Injury DVDs, and authored manuals on Advanced Orthopedic Massage and Client Self Care. His book: Clinical Massage Therapy: A Structural Approach to Pain Management, was published by Pearson Education in James is a Certified Personal Trainer with NASM. He presents at state, national and international massage, chiropractic, and osteopathic conventions, including keynote addresses at the FSMTA, World of Wellness, New England Regional Conference, the World Massage Festival, and Australian National Massage Conventions. His audience includes massage and physical therapists, as well as athletic trainers, chiropractors, osteopaths, nurses and physicians. James received the 1999 FSMTA International Achievement Award, and was inducted into the 2008 Massage Therapy Hall of Fame. Take all 4 classes and receive an additional Lower Body Certificate! See Conferenceat-a-Glance for class times. Oleg Bouimer, born in Ukraine, has been a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Certified Fitness Trainer for over twenty years. Since the very beginning of his career he has been involved in scientific research on the effectiveness of massage therapy in the treatment of sport injuries. He is author of many articles in European and American medical and massage journals. As a three-time Ukrainian champion in triathlon, and a coach, he learned the benefits and necessity of massage therapy very early. In his work with elite athletes, Oleg has been on the cutting edge of somatic rehabilitation. He relocated to the United States in Currently, he maintains a very active practice of Sports Massage in Los Angeles. He teaches nationwide, and has founded a Medical and Sports Massage Club in Los Angeles for practitioners who wish to learn massage therapy based on scientific principles. Oleg is founder of the Global Wellness Institute, a non-profit organization in South California which sponsors fundraising events to promote research and education in massage therapy, as well as physical education of kids in public schools. Oleg will be teaching 3 highly informative sessions at the conference -- don t miss out! Mark Kinney (left) & Tim Harvey (right) will present Generating Onsite Massage Income. Mark Kinney is a specialist in body alignment, pain management, and injury recovery. Mark s years of research and training in multiple modalities have enabled him to acquire a unique depth of knowledge. This background has helped many massage therapists excel in their practices and empowered them to attain their goals of becoming more effective. He has been in practice since 1994 and currently works exclusively for internet professionals in Silicon Valley. Tim Harvey is a Sports and Repetitive Strain Injury Rehabilitation Specialist. His clientèle has included members of the U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team (Team USA), the San Francisco 49er s, the Montreal Impact, professional and amateur cyclists, runners, professional dancers, and musicians; as well as employees of many high tech firms such as Applied Materials, Google, Adobe and Sun Microsystems. Tim is also a board certified and licensed Acupuncturist/Herbologist and Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. Increase your income! Generate more business!
