The summer is wrapped up and packed away for another year, and we are so grateful for all the volunteers that came forward this year and helped to make our summer programs even better. The 2nd Annual Luncheon! We are now transitioning back to our regular school-year programs. I am looking forward to seeing all the Power For Life girls and the Club 3:16 kids coming back to participate in our programs for another year. Of course, we are praying for more to join in on these programs and in our Women s Ministry activities and our weekly Bible Study. We are currently in final preparation for our Annual Luncheon. If you haven t reserved your table yet, do so quickly. You don t want to miss this event! I love when we can get together as a community and celebrate all that we were able to accomplish together in the past year and take time to honor a couple of exceptional partners. No one person or organization can do it alone it truly takes the support of the entire community. Well folks, it is that time of year again we are very excited to once again host the Annual Luncheon to thank our Advisory Board members and honor those This year, the event will be held at the Elks Lodge, 73 N. Third Street, Newark, OH on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 12 noon. Sponsorships are available at the following levels: Gold Star Patron $1,000 Individual seats are $25 per person. Reservations and sponsorships are due by Monday, September 11, 2017 at noon. 2 Page 2 Volunteer News We Did It! With your help we were able to provide over 11,600 balanced meals to children who may not normally have had a balanced meal while school was out! October 23rd: Christmas Applications due to begin. November 5th: Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Toy Run We are so very grateful to our Summer Feeding Program volunteers for their tireless efforts to provide a healthy lunch to kids in need across Licking County this summer! Shelter News Cooler weather will be here before we know it...there are many needs in our emergency shelter. We currently are in need of bandages, razors, deodorant (Men s), hair conditioner, Kleenex, diapers (sizes 5 and 6), umbrellas, and feminine hygiene products. Please note additional social services: NEW HOURS: The Emergency Food Pantry is open Monday and Wednes- Youth News Youth programs are all on our fall programming schedule. We are looking forward to this year s See You At The Pole event on Wednesday, Sept. 27th, Thank you to all of you who have graciously stepped up to help with Summer Programming. Here are some important upcoming dates to remember: September 14th: Annual Luncheon. day, from 1:00 pm 3:00 pm. Call the office for requirements at (740) Food-a-rama is a FREE food giveaway of reclaimed foods from local restaurants; occurs every Thurs. at 12:30 pm. GED Classes have also begun. For more information please contact the Shelter Manager at and all of the other fall events. We will offer transportation to and from afterschool programs on an as-needed basis only. All of our programs will also provide dinner. For September 2017: Life: After school program for at-risk middle & high school girls, M -F 3- begins after Labor Day. Registration required call for details. Junior Soldier Classes: Recommendation required. Wednesdays at. Corps Cadet classes: Recommendation Whether it is for an hour, a day, or a regularly scheduled time each month, we sincerely appreciate all you have to give of your time, talent, and treasures. According to Feeding America, even in the world s greatest food-producing nation, children and adults face poverty and hunger in every county across America. In 2015: 42 million people struggle with hunger in the United States, including 13 million children. 5.4 million seniors don t have enough to eat. 42 million Americans including 13 million children lived in households that were food insecure, meaning there was limited or uncertain access to enough food to support a healthy life. Households with children were more likely to be food insecure than those without children. Want to know more? We simply cannot thank you enough for your support of our Inaugural, Christmas in July counter-top kettle campaign. In realizing that Need knows no season, the campaign raised over $2, We are so grateful to the local media and community partners who continually step up to help us in, Doing The Most Good for the residents of Licking County. Due in part to these efforts, we have been able to provide our Summer Day Camp children with tours of the Newark Fire Department, Buckeye Lake Museum, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the Works, Laurelwood Farm, and more. The kids were also visited by some great special guest speakers! This year, we have been so blessed to partner with the Red Oak Pub, Christy s Pizza, Pizza Cottage, Downtown Cycles, Good Guys Garage, Brick Alley Donuts, Goumas Convections, Matilda Charlotte Antiques, Park Pizza, the Pioneer Restaurant, the River Road Coffee Houses, the Newark & Granville Subway Shops, the Licking County Park National Bank branches, the Newark True Core Credit Union branches, the Hopewell Federal Credit Unions in Newark and Heath branches, 15 of the Duke & Duchess Shoppes in Licking County, Heartland Bank, the Lion s Club, Second Church of Christ, and Impact Martial Arts. This year, representatives from Explore Licking County, and the Licking County Historical Society also came to the campus for some very educational presentations. One special guest speaker that the campers (and staff) will never forget was former OSU Linebacker, & current LA Chargers player Joshua Perry. Not only did the children have tons of fun this summer, but they were learning as well. Math and reading scores increased by an average of 26.8% overall; and the students had a wonderful time with the art, STEM, and science projects. As one grandparent of a child attending on scholarship remarked, The Day Camp was great for my grandson. It helped him make new friends, learn to follow rules, and he absolutely loved all the activities! Thank you everyone for your support! #NeedKnowsNoSeason
