2 Welcome Thank you for participating in our Food From The Bar campaign with Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. You are joining hundreds of others from the legal community who partner with the Food From The Bar campaign in their local community to help their food insecure neighbors. This guide will focus on the steps to assist you in making your campaign a success. It is designed to offer a quick and easy reference for how to earn points, important dates and who to contact if you have questions. 3 Mark Your Calendars Key Dates: Information: February 1 st -March 23 rd Appoint a Food From the Bar Coordinator. March 1, 2017 Registration for Food From The Bar opens. March 23, 2017 Coordinator Happy Hour 4 p.m. 5:30 p.m. May 1 st -May 26 th Food From The Bar campaign officially begins May 1 st. All donations and hours must be submitted on or before May 26 th. June 22, 2017 Food From The Bar Award Ceremony. 3

4 Ways to Earn Points Food Drives Volunteering Fundraising Sponsorship Point System 1 dollar = 1 point 5 lbs. of food = 1 point 1 shift volunteered per person = 20 points *Donations made from May 1 st through May 26 th will count toward the point totals. 4

5 Food Drives Food Drives are great for engaging your employees and building team spirit while closing the meal gap in Orange County. To organize a Food Drive, have your FFTB coordinator contact Elizabeth Sproule at Elizabeth@FeedOC.org by April 14 th so Second Harvest Food Bank can make arrangement for your boxes to be delivered by the May 1 st start date. Get the word out to your team! Distribute page 6 to your employees. Setting a Goal How do you determine how much you will collect? A good formula is to take all the employees in your office and multiply that number by 5. The average can is roughly a pound. But because this is a competition, feel free to set an even higher goal. Our boxes hold on average lbs. 5

7 Volunteer Days Volunteer with your team in our Distribution Center where you will pack and sort donated food for our food insecure neighbors of Orange County. You can also volunteer on our Incredible Edible Farm where you will harvest produce that will feed the hungry within our community. How to Volunteer: To volunteer, your FFTB coordinator will contact Elizabeth Sproule at Your FFTB coordinator will be sent a unique link. Follow the instructions provided in the sent to you by your FFTB coordinator. The link sent to you allows us to track your team s FFTB points. Other Ways to Get Involved during Volunteer Days: Become a Volunteer Day Sponsor! A wonderful way to build team spirit, have community recognition, and further the mission to end hunger. More information on page 11. Bring a company t-shirt to add to our company t-shirt wall. See customizable flyer on page 13. 8 Fundraising Crowdfunding Your coordinator will contact for a unique link to set up a crowdfunding page. It s an easy and fun way to get your friends and family involved. You can distribute your link to your team, friends and family through and social . Office Fundraising You can engage your team through fun interoffice competitions, games and sales. Bake sale, dress down day, BINGO, poker, costless auction, formal Friday, raffle special talents, extra change jar, wine grab, etc. For more fundraising ideas, see pages 9 and 10. DLA Piper did a snack cart throughout the building during the campaign Akin Gump partnered with Pizza Studio to run a month long promotion for the campaign Venable LLP raised $800 from a Rooftop Bocce Ball Tournament 10

11 Sponsorship Opportunities Vision: To close the meal gap for those in need in Orange County once and for all. What: Anti-hunger campaign championed by the Orange County legal community. How: There are two sponsorship opportunities available: Volunteer Days and the Award Reception. Volunteer days provide a great opportunity for team building, giving back, and firm recognition. 12 Game On: Award Opportunities Overall Award: the organization with the highest overall combined totals. Highest Per Capita Award will be presented to the organization with the highest overall per capita contributions. Top Fundraiser Award awarded to the group who donates the most money. Kickoff Award highest total of monetary donations during the first week of the campaign Volunteer Champion Award highest percentage of volunteers (measured by firm/ office size) or by number of shifts. Cornucopia Award participant donating the greatest amount of food. Best All Around Award outstanding achievement for a firm with fewer than 100 employees based on funds raised, pounds collected and volunteer hours per capita. Creativity Award as determined by the Food Bank, the most innovative, unusual, or effective means of supporting the Food From The Bar campaign. Awards Information Achievement Award Levels All organizations that participate in the Diamond Partners 20,000 points competition will receive an Platinum Partners 12,000 points Achievement Award. Gold Partners 6,000 points The Awards Reception will be held on Silver Partners 2,000 points June 22 nd, Sponsorship opportunities available. 12

13 Join us for Friends of Volunteer Day At Second Harvest Food Bank Date Time 8014 Marine Way Irvine, CA Food From The Bar is a campaign started by lawyers to fight hunger among children and families in our community. It is a friendly four-week competition (May 1st through May 26th) among law firms and legal offices throughout Orange County in which participants contribute funds, donate food, and volunteer time at Second Harvest Food Bank. You can start by helping us #EndHungerinOC by sorting and packing food in our Food Distribution Center! The minimum age requirement to participate is 14 years old.
