September Meeting Minutes- provided prior to call by Connie Ginsbach Josh Rock moved to approve the minutes. Katie Jerde seconded. Motion carried. Treasurer s Report Connie Ginsbach Total Assets as of October 9, 2014 are $464, Net Income as of 10/9/14 is $142, State Conference Last Minute Update Josh reported registrations are up. Everyone is asked to attend the vendor hall. Both evening events are sponsored; attend and thank them. Katie Jerde still needs two volunteers at registration tomorrow morning and two today. Three people are needed over the lunch hour for the book store and the Foundation table needs some volunteers. Leadership Katie Jerde Sunday Monday, January 18-19, 2015 at Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria. The room rate is $129 each. Seven people from each chapter will be paid for by MN SHRM Council. Katie needs speaker suggestions. Focus will be on strategic planning. The cost will be under $200 for those who need to pay. Membership Joyce LeMay Current chapter members will receive a pin at the MN SHRM Membership table in the vendor hall. Members-at-large will be asked to complete a short survey and their names will be placed in a drawing for $25 Visa gift cards. The information gathered will be shared with the appropriate chapters. Chapters should be reporting their membership totals with Karen Gureghian and Joyce LeMay.

2 Foundation Baskets Deliver baskets to the conference center. Early Morning Fitness Classes Zumba on Monday and yoga on Tuesday in the room next to the pool by the lobby. Conference Follow-up Meeting Connie Larson will send out details. Director s Report Connie Larson Volunteer Leaders Summit will be November in Washington, D.C. Nancy Conway reminded us that registration closes October 27. The Chapter President Elect or Chapter Presidents for 2015 attend free with two nights hotel ad registration paid. When landing at the Ronald Reagan Airport take the yellow line (6-7 stops) Mt. Vernon square, 7 th Street Connection and walk 1-2 blocks to the Marriott. State Certification Directors are invited this year as well. Joyce LeMay reminded chapters to try and attend the Membership Event. Connie Larson said they are trying to get hockey tickets for the Washington Capitol game. Two of the players are from MN. Capitol Hill Tour Nancy informed this event will be held as usual budget will be approved at the January Leadership meeting. Submit all requests to Jamie Janezich. The HR Executive Summit has been put on hold until State Conference is October in Mankato. Promote to all chapters State Conference will be in October in Bloomington State Conference will be back to the normal rotation: Rochester, Duluth, St. Cloud SHRM - Nancy Conway Nancy and Kristine Hoffman now support the student chapters. SHRM web site now lists active student chapters. $35 student SHRM membership fee, $80 SHRM dues for the following two years. October 15 is the deadline for student chapter foundation. November is deadline for scholarships. DVD ad discussion guides have been given to all Chapter Presidents. Advocacy at shrm.org new and updated. Easy to contact representatives. PowerPoint for fourth quarter is ready. Don t opt out of all SHRM s; sign up for what fits your volunteer role. SHR seminars is offering a photo contest. First place a free seminar, second place $500 off seminar, third-$300 off seminar. tweet@shrm, #SHRMEdu. SHR can provide seminars at group events. Director of HR Competencies and Thought Leadership Kari from SHRM will present a Certification Town Hall tomorrow morning at the Conference. She will present a PowerPoint and then answer questions. SHRMcertification.org has FAQ s.

3 For 2015 Certification: 1. Currently certified 2. Sign ethics statement 3. Complete tutorial on competencies. SHRM what you need at each career level. Senior level information. Joyce LeMay helped write new exam questions. They are knowledge and situation based. Full and partial credit will now be given or exam answers. There is no difference between exempt and non-exempt for exams. SHRM learning system is being updated. Will roll out in December There will be two webinars for CL Directors and instructors of new system in October with more in November. Registration for new exam opens in January First exam period is May, June, July $300 for SHRM embers, $400 for nonmembers. $695 SHRM Learning System. Dates for Student Regional Conferences will be released in November, they are waiting on signed contracts. Probably will be held in April Open Council Positions Connie Larson Foundation Director- appointed; not voted on. Give your name to Connie L. if interested. Secretary/Treasurer-Jennifer Theisen. A member of TCHRA and SHRM. No other nominations, Connie Larson recommended her; she was approved. Motion carried. Director Elect Tiffany Kuehl. Web/technology based. Connie Larson recommended her, no other nominations, motion carried. Approved. Two-Minute Council and Chapter Reports: Arrowhead Human Resources Association & College Relations Shelley Robinson programs are going great. Trying to recruit SHRM certified members. SHRM student member list stays with SHRM. Shelley wants to coordinate better with SHRM to get student information. Conferences need to be advertised by advisors and professors to students. Josh has a list of advisors and students. Nancy Conway advises to combine College Relations and Young Professionals. Central Minnesota SHRM - Valerie Larkin. 158 members. New web site launches next week. Cancelled the October meeting and encouraged attendance at the MN SHRM conference instead. Working with St. Ben s on a college chapter. Continuing to work with St. Cloud State. Certification Director Laurie Pinther Worked on the conference; 15 strategic credits. Working on new certification. SHRM doing HRCI credits through 2015; how does MN want to move forward?

4 Diversity Trish Jesperson- Survey went out to SHRM members with 150 responses. Shared analysis; handed out a two-page summary. Foundation Della Ludwig no report. Hiawatha Valley SHRM Stacie Hawkins working on succession planning. The next meeting topic will be on workplace mental health. HRP-MN Next monthly meeting will be on presentations Lake Country Human Resource Association no report Lakes Area Human Resource Association Dawn. new administration software in place. $60/month, new web site. Working on elections for 2015 Legislative Director - Larry Bourgerie Advocacy has a new web site. We have two captains out of eight. He needs advocacy folks to be more active and have all positions filled by December. He spoke at Winona. Has a great relationship with representatives; went to Amy Klobachar s office. He continues to hold quarterly conference calls. Chapter representative need to attend these calls Membership Joyce LeMay Chapters need to update their President s name with Joyce to keep her list correct. There are five chapters with super star status=4% increase in SHR members. One achieved Star Member Status. Audits need to get done. Tell Kristine Hoffman at SHRM about current membership numbers. By December 31,2016 chapters must have a minimum 0f 25 members and 51% must be SHRM members. As of today four chapters would not make it. Use the SHRM volunteer site for help with this. North Star SHRM - Bruce Tyler they have elected a new president. Both the President and President Elect are going to D.C. Northland Human Resources Association - Arik Forsman Scheduling programs for Past State Council Director - Linda Besse no report. Risk Management - Larry Vanden Plas Handed out a two-page list of do s and don ts. Chapters can purchase insurance through the State Council. Rochester HR Association Emmy McCoy no report. South Central SHRM Misty Gasset They are a finalist for the Pinnacle Award. Working on the new SHRM certification information for education. Working on balancing the budget and trying to find corporate sponsors South Minnesota Area HRA Christina James Working on programs for the new year. Southwest Human Resource Association Elizabeth Johnson Working on programs and scheduling meetings with students.

5 Director Elect Jaimie Janezich. Tell him about budget requests and changes or He is open to hearing ideas and suggestions for the new year. Technology Josh Rock Tell him about any promotions you want broadcast via the MN SHRM web site. MN SHRM students are on Twitter and Facebook/share student. Use the group s LinkedIn page. TCHRA Melanie Olson They are moving their year to align with SHRM s calendar year and will change bylaws. Wellness Kim Savaria HealthPartners hosted the annual judging of the Wellbeing Award in September West Central MN SHRM Amy Jahner They have a new communications chair; set up Facebook. Are working on 2015 programming. They are accepting HR Professional of the year nominations. Winona Area SHRM Rhonda Spece Going to 100% SHRM membership chapter in January.
