5 OUR MOTTO The purpose of this chapter shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in students of Stevens High School. 5

6 THE FOUR STANDARDS Character: The mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him. James D. Miles Scholarship: The initiative to excel academically for one s self betterment. Leadership: Leaders are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life Service: The voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community. 6

7 GOOD STANDING Complete 5 hours of volunteer service per semester, including at least one Group Project (Volunteer form is on website ) Attend 70% of meetings (7); New Seniors will need 4 The November 28th Induction Ceremony counted as a meeting! Meeting Make-up Complete 1 hour community service prior to the next monthly meeting (give to Mr. Norcross) 7

11 VETERAN S HOLIDAY RELIEF DRIVE Work together to fill Buddy baskets or Buddy Bags! Household and/or essential relief items from recipes or substitute items Volunteer for school advertisement We will receive handouts, poster and ads Set NHS goals Set school wide goals Competitions against grades? 12 STORYBOOK ISLAND CHRISTMAS NIGHTS OF LIGHT Storybook Island needs volunteers to help during its annual Christmas Nights of Light, which runs now through Dec. 31. Volunteers are needed for admissions and concessions as well as helping with the train and other duties as assigned. Nights of Lights runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. AGE: 15+

13 HOLIDAY ARTS MARKET The Rapid City Arts Council needs volunteers to assist during the Holiday Arts Market on Friday and Saturday, Nov , at the Dahl Arts Center. Volunteers are needed to deliver merchandise from vendor tables to the cashier. The Holiday Art Market features a variety of hand-made items from dozens of local artists.

16 Individual Opportunities GIFT WRAPPING Holiday Gift Wrapping Booth: Youth & Family Services (YFS) and the Exchange Club of Rapid City are hosting the Holiday Gift Wrapping Booth inside the Rushmore Mall! To ensure the success of this year s booth, we are looking for nearly 200 volunteers to help us wrap gifts from December Online sign-up method (follow the link): or ddecker@youthandfamilyservices.org or call Darcie Decker at (605) and ask which shifts are still available. 16

17 Individual Opportunities - Scholarship Dr. Roberta K. Gaines Scholarship (April 2017) - Purpose: to reward member(s) who have contributed to the success of chapter organized group projects, committees, and other activities during the school year. The New Word file will be uploaded to in March. 17
