4 Well for all of you that were not aware, I will be the new governor starting May 1st. I was a governor for the Paradise Moose Lodge from May 2006 to April 30, 2007 before so maybe I can improve on it the second time around. I would like to thank all of the WOTM & LOOM Moose Officers for a great job that we did to meet and overcome some of the challenges we had the past year. With the harmony of working together I can see this new year being filled with more fun and exciting events. One of our new purchases that we are planning is the purchase of a new cash register for the Social Quarters that will allow us to track our inventory more closely and also give us the ability to take credit cards and debit cards for the convenience of our members. By the time you get this bulletin the Crab Feed and Spring Fling will be over. At last count I had 69 members who had stepped up and purchased Crab Feed tickets. We were shooting for 70 tickets being sold the first time out in a while and it looks like we will come very close if not surpass that goal. The Spring Fling that is put on by the Booze Fighters is always a fun event and I am sure that everyone who came out and supported their charity had a great time. The food is always great and the poker walk is a fun event with the chance to increase your winnings if you re lucky enough to draw the winning hand. I am sure the food & music was great! Some of the events that are coming up in May at the lodge that you may want to attend are: The Yard Sale from the 1st to the 3rd of May and being chaired by Jim Carver, one of our Trustees. On May 10th we will be honoring all of our mothers and will be giving a free breakfast to all WOTM mothers with a current membership card. On May 25th Tom Markle will be honoring our lodge service members who gave of themselves to ensure we could live our lives in peace and harmony and celebrate this holiday in the traditional way it was intended to be celebrated. The Memorial Day Services honors our vets of the Moose Lodge and is a way for us to show every one of them our gratitude and how much we appreciate their sacrifices. I would like to end this message by wishing everyone a fun and enjoyable spring as well as good health for the coming year. 5 SIRS 52 During the conversations held with the Moose Lodge officers, for a contract to support our monthly luncheon meetings for the Paradise Branch SIR s, an interesting point was brought up. As members of the Moose Lodge, our Branch 52 of SIR s would be able to make contributions to the Lodge Newsletter. For our first article we felt an introduction to who and what SIR is, would be important as many might have heard of the organization but not what we are about. Sons In Retirement Membership is open to men regardless of age, race, national origin or religion. Begun in 1958, SIR has thousands of members and branches in most areas of Central and Northern California. There are 6 Branch s in the Chico/Paradise/Magalia areas, with Branch 52 representing Paradise with about 80 active members. We have monthly luncheons now hosted at the Moose Lodge 2227, with interesting speakers and good fellowship and we create activities that our members enjoy. Additionally, our members have lots of fun doing a variety of other activities such as golf (including State wide competitions), fishing, bowling (including State wide competitions), horseshoes and RV ing (we travel as far as the Central Valley, to the Northern Coast regions, and to Reno). Many activities like Rv ing, Travel, Lunch Out s, Bowling, Golfing, Picnics (with Bingo games & Drawing Prizes), and Christmas Dinners include our ladies and guests. To get more information on our activities check out our web site But there are some things that we don't do! We don't raise money. We don't have a political agenda. We don't have a religious orientation. We don't sell light bulbs or anything else. We don't have a problem with organizations that do these things, its just that we don't. You've paid your dues to the working world - it s time to enjoy life. AND, our Branch 52 Does Not charge any form of Initiation or Monthly dues!! 8 Recorder s Message: WOTM Members and Co-workers, In order to keep our records current, please or call me with any mailing address, phone number, or address changes. We sent cards out to Jim, Billie, and Henry. We wish them a speedy recovery. Due to illness Plymouth has been cancelled for May, Claire is going to see if we can roll over our deposit to Sept. Jake & Eileen volunteered to take it if they do. So June will be our first camp out. Our Wagon master is planning for the June meeting to be held at Woodson Bridge. If you haven't signed up to do the campout do plan to come to Woodson for the Meeting. Ray let us know that Crescent City has finished the campground remodel and sounds like quite an improvement. Jake let us know about Minden and what is available to us in the area, an impressed on us that if you sign up they are requesting the first night deposit, and is not refundable if not cancelled on their due date. 9 As we begin the month of May, it s hard to believe we only have 3 months left on our Rescue 911 Plan. The month of July will end the program that was started August 1 st in year The purpose of the plan was to bring in funds to help with repairs and improvements to our building and grounds. To that extent, we can say the plan is a success. If you look at the building both inside and out, many of the improvements are obvious. The objective of this program was a participation rate of about 75% of our membership. To date, we have reached about 30%. We had hoped to raise about $60,000. To date we have raised about $18,200. A total of 78 members have contributed to the program. In addition, we have received donations from the LOOM Legion members, LOOM Friday night dinner volunteers, LOOM Sunday Breakfast groups, Lodge Quilters group, Moose Wednesday night line dancers, and A-1 Mini Storage. It should also be noted that some of the 78 participants are members of the WOTM. The Booze Fighters have also committed upcoming raffle proceeds to the fund. Many things remain to be done and will be done before the close of the program. We currently have an uncommitted balance of $1,000 remaining and hope much more will be donated in May, June and July.
