Kennedy once said, A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces, but also by the men it remembers, the men it honors. Memorial Day, one of the oldest holidays in the United States, is a time for Americans to honor the memory and sacrifices of the heroic men and women of our country who gave their lives for our freedom. Our school community is especially cognizant of this holiday as many of our parents serve their country and put themselves in harm s way to protect our freedom. Some of them have lost colleagues, friends and relatives along the way. Others have seen tragedy that has left a permanent mark. We are fortunate to live amongst so many brave men and women in our community. Our children benefit tremendously from being surrounded by citizens who have chosen a life of service. I know that I don t thank them enough for modeling selflessness, resilience, honor and integrity. I could not ask for better lessons for our students. This is a very busy time of year for us at school and there are many messages that should be written in this week s Scoop; however, nothing is more important than leaving this column to our service members. Let s all take a moment to reflect on our good fortune. While we enjoy the company of our children and the safety of our community on a beautiful Memorial Day weekend, let s also spend a few moments remembering those who gave their lives so that we could enjoy ours. Banquette Building in the Library Do you have the tools and a knack for woodworking or sewing? If you do, we need you in the library. Here is another chance to earn those volunteer hours and display a bit of craftsmanship. We need to build a banquette in the library to give the students a place to congregate, read, work, and collaborate. The following link gives details of what we would like to do. If you can help or know someone who is willing to donate their time and talents or materials, contact Mr. Schwermer in the library.
