May 2014 Registration July 2014 Comments In the interest of efficiency, the South Atlantic Division of the American Cancer Society has combined its financial services with our National Home Office. For specific information about Central Virginia, please contact the Senior Director, Partner Relationships, at The American Cancer Society is required by the IRS to submit multiple Forms 990 each fiscal year. Currently, one Form is filed for its National Home Office; another Form presents a 10
11 combined basis for its chartered Divisions, the American Cancer Society of Puerto Rico, Inc., American Cancer Society Foundation; and for ACS Products Inc., which sells mission related products. These statements individually only present a piece of the American Cancer Society's operations, and they include material inter-company income, expenses, assets and liabilities, particularly between the National Home Office and the chartered Divisions. In addition, Forms 990 are presented in accordance with IRS regulations, which in some cases are at variance with generally accepted accounting principles. Accordingly, the Forms 990 do not individually present a meaningful picture of the American Cancer Society's financial transactions as a whole. Therefore the Society provides the Combined Financial Statements on its website, The combined financial statements provide the only meaningful financial information on the entire American Cancer Society organization since they are presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and combine all parts of the organization in one statement. Also included on the Society's website is a copy of the Society's most recent annual report that discusses the Society's mission and accomplishments. Foundation Comments Financial information provided from audit. and audit prepared by Ernst & Young. and audit represents the combined financial picture of the national American Cancer Society office and all its nationwide affiliates. Revenue from "Individuals" may also include support from foundations and corporations. Created Copyright 2018 The Community Foundation Serving Richmond & Central Virginia 11
