2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission Our Mission: Save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer. Background Nancy Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all, and energize science to find the cures. In 2016, the leaders of three former affiliates; Komen Greater Nashville, Komen Upper Cumberland, and Komen Chattanooga began the conversation to merge in order to strengthen operations and have a greater impact in the fight against breast cancer in Tennessee and the Northwest Georgia regions. Under one name, Komen Central Tennessee, we have began to do just this!now serving 41 counties in Tennessee and Northwest Georgia, Komen Central Tennessee:Is the local source for breast cancer detection and support projects.funds vital screening mammograms, diagnostic testing and treatment support through annual Community Grants Program.Maintains offices in the Greater Nashville Region, Upper Cumberland Region, and Chattanooga Region.Regional offices will continue to support outreach and community focused events, local Race for the Cure events and fundraisers.komen Central Tennessee supports breast cancer treatments, screening, education, support services and research. Up to 75% of net proceeds remain in the affiliate service area while the remaining 25% goes toward ground breaking research. Needs 1. Increased funding for grants, community outreach, and education.2. Development of a breast health/breast cancer awareness resource center within Komen Central Tennessee offices. 3. CEO Statement Susan G. Komen for the Cure began with a promise made between two sisters. It is a promise to find a cure and end breast cancer forever. Those of us involved with Komen Central Tennessee carry on the work started over 30 years ago by one of those sisters, Nancy G. Brinker. With passion and energy and urgency, we work to raise funds in order to invest more money in research, education, and treatment. We work to gain more support from our communities, our friends, our families. We work to find not just the cure for breast cancer but to find the cures for all cancers. We believe in Our Promise. And we promise you that we will not rest until the race is won. 3

4 Programs Programs Komen Community Grants Description Komen Central Tennessee is the local source for funding breast cancer detection, support and educational awareness in Central Tennessee. Through its community grants, Komen Central Tennessee is investing more than $420,000 in education, diagnosis, treatment and support programs here in name service area here provided by 18 local programs that serve uninsured or underinsured residents in our service area. Since it was founded in 1992, Komen Central Tennessee has invested more than $9.8 million in local breast health agencies and organizations. Grants are selected by our independent Grant Review Panel as those that will have the greatest impact in serving underserved women in our service area. Susan G. Komen for the Cure is not a direct service provider. Population Served,, Komen Science and Research Description With every dollar that is donated to our affiliate, we have a 75/25 split. Up to 75% of the funds are kept in our 41 county regional service area while the other 25% is sent to the Komen National Science and Research Teams to find the cures for breast cancer!
