We are grateful to have been given the opportunity to provide service work the hope that you will be able to step to action and embrace the beauty that is recovery. When the hand of AA reaches out, we want to be there. As always, IDAA s focus this year has been on the new member. The 2014 LAC welcomes all of you who are here for the first or second time and hope that what you fd is a fellowship of recovery which is not only peer led but strong and full of hope. The World Famous Palm Desert and the Palm Sprgs area offers an unbelievable bounty of entertament and recreational activities. While the majestic Santa Rosa Mountas and spectacular desert landscape may beckon you outside, your IDAA annual meetg destation and the amazg program we have for you welcomes you to this Southern California experience. As always, IDAA 2014 will feature a variety of recovery programs for all family members who attend, cludg AA, Al-Anon, IDAA Teen, Ala-Twenty and Jerry Moe from the Betty Ford Center is back brgg his popular recovery based children s program for 7 to 12 years olds. An outstandg program of contug educational credits is beg offered for medical and dental. The 2014 LAC is so excited to be hostg this year s annual meetg and look forward to seeg many new and old members. Dear Friends Recovery, The Local arrangements committee welcomes you to the 65 th Annual Meetg of International Doctors Alcoholics Anonymous. Preparg this conference has been stimulatg and hard work the best tradition of AA service. We hope that our efforts will create an enjoyable and memorable experience for each of you. The AA, Al-Anon, Ala-Twenties and Ala-Teen Programs are packed with spirational meetgs. We have cluded many open discussions as part of many of our AA meetgs, so that all will have a chance to share their experiences, strengths and hopes. The Al-Anon program is one of the most extensive to date, thanks to Bobbie Specht, the Al-Anon chairman. This year, we have placed special emphasis on women recovery and their vital contribution to IDAA, cludg dedicated space for women s meetgs and more women speakers both our recovery and educational programs. On Friday night, we have a special event. We are privileged to have George Vaillant and Garrett O Connor conduct a lively discussion moderated by Norm Reynolds on the Spiritual Condition of Bill Wilson at pots along his recovery journey. This is somethg no one should miss. We are honored to be of service to this organization. If there is anythg we can do to make your stay more pleasurable, do not hesitate to ask. 5 Conference Information Registration Area The registration area is located at the north counter, opposite the grand ball room. Registration will be open Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am 4:00pm. There will be shorter registration hours from 10:00am 2:00pm on Friday and Saturday with simultaneous Pre-Registration for IDAA 2015 Norfolk, Virgia. There will be no registration on Sunday. Scholarship Recipients should check at the meetg registration area before gog to the hotel registration desk. Local Arrangement Committee (LAC) Local Arrangement Committee (LAC) members are wearg sky blue and lime green shirts. Look for us, we are everywhere and happy to be of service to you, no matter what your needs are. The Conference Mentor Meetg Area New Member red dots will be paired with other scholarship recipients at the Scholarship meetg 6:30am Salon 1 on Thursday morng. Red Dot new comers who are not receivg scholarships will be paired with mentors. See Ray G through the registration desk, or Ray will certaly fd you. If you are a new member, a conference mentor can be valuable to you and your family for a smooth and wonderful experience. Hospitality Rooms The Hospitality area is located just off of the Grand Concourse, located Salons A and B, near the South Foyer. The Hospitality areas will be open to provide beverages from 6 am until 10 pm, daily. We hope that you will use this area to meet, mgle and enjoy the fellowship with the new members and old acquatances, alike. Wednesday Night Welcome Party The welcome party will be the Desert Ballroom, Wednesday eveng at 6:30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to start our conference off with a huge bang. Dress is comfortable and desert casual. Families are encouraged to participate together. New Members Reception The New Members Reception is planned for all first time attendees and their spouses or significant other, to meet the Local Arrangement Committee and the IDAA Steerg Committee. It is hosted by our Executive Director, Dale Syfert, on Thursday from 5:00pm to 6:00pm the Hospitality Room (Salons A & B). IDAA Teens Dr. Bob and Twila Grandchamp are back for their 18 th year to facilitate this popular program. It is not childcare. All meetgs will be held the designated area of Salons K & L. Please see the registration desk and program for exact location. This venue will close at 12pm. Parents must sign a consent and liability form allowg their teen to participate. Parents must also attend the parent orientation on Wednesday eveng at 6 pm at the same location. Jerry Moe Program Betty Ford Center s Jerry Moe returns to run this program designed to help kids learn new tools for livg families afflicted with chemical dependency. This is restricted to children ages 7 to 12. Parents must sign a consent and liability form. The parents orientation will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday Salon 2 of the Conference Center.
6 Ala-Twenties This group of former IDAA Teens recovery contues to grow. All their meetgs will be Salons 13 & 14 Conference Center. Breakout Meetgs These late night sessions start at 10:00pm and last until 11:00pm. All breakout meetgs are assigned to Salons the Conference Center. Women s meetgs will be held Salon 3 and will be available at all times for the entire conference. We have provided space for most of the well attended meetgs. If you do not fd a group you are lookg for contact the registration desk to see if we can accommodate you. CDs CDs will be provided by MD Tapes, located Salon 4. The contact formation for MD Tapes is mdtapes@sbcglobal.net, or Bookstore The bookstore offers a wide variety of recovery literature and gifts. It is located Salons 5 & 6. Contug Education This year we are offerg a total of 13.5 hours of Contug Education Units which has been approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Some of the Medical CME is approved for Dental CE, plus an addition Dental CE only for a total of 4 hrs approved by the California Dental Association. IDAA Children s Banquets This year we are offerg 2 eveng events for the children, which must be registered for separately. These events allow the parent(s) to attend their eveng banquets. The children may jo their family at the closg Sunday Breakfast Buffet, at no additional costs. Both Children s Banquets will be held Salons H & I Thursday Night Children s Banquet: Carnival Theme with Magic Saturday Night Children s Banquet: Prcess & Superhero s Theme Friday Night Event A spectacular event is planned, not to be missed. Two gentlemen, Dr. George Vaillant and Dr. Garrett O Connor, men who need no troduction, will participate a discussion of Bill Wilson s journey to spiritual awareness. Assisted by the movie Bill W., lively comments will be made at various pots along Bill W. s path. This will be moderated by Norm R. Light snacks will be available. This is somethg no on should miss and is approved for 1.5 hours of CME credit by the (AAFP). Fun Run and Walk We are relyg on Palm Desert Resort s Fun Run Trails for this year s event, which will be held Friday morng at 7:00am. Ask for further details the registration area, located near the Western entrance at the Conference Center at the large desk opposite the Grand Ball Room. Golf The Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, July 30 st at the Desert Sprgs Resort. The cost is $115 and cludes green fees, golf cart and prizes.
7 2014 IDAA Shirts Shirts all sizes (but limited quantities) will be available near registration. Monies collected for the shirts helps defray expenses for Scholarship, the Jerry Moe Program, and the IDAA Teen Program. We encourage everyone to use this fun way to support IDAA and stay stylish and cool the desert Tours The Desert Sprgs Resort will be happy to help you plan an excursion to one or more of the many attractions located with an hour of our conference. Jeep tours of the desert and excursions off the tram on Mount Jacto are among this year s attractions. Friday Jeep Tours 8:00am 11:00am Saturday Tram Ride 8:00am 12:00noon See hotel concierge or activity desk for details. Childcare IDAA is unable to provide childcare due to liability issues, cost and availability. There will be childcare available through the hotel, please see the concierge or hotel personnel for further formation. Celebrity Sitters (760) are the designated childcare services for the resort. All parents are responsible for makg dividual arrangements. Donations and Mitzvah Fund Contributions may be made to the Luke Reed fund (AA), the Sheila Payne memorial fund (Al-Anon), or to the Connie Hyde memorial fund (for families). These can be made at the registration desk or mailed to Dale Syfert, IDAA Central Office, 2616 NW 25 th Place, Gaesville, FL Sce scholarship fundg only pays for registration, lodgg and conference meals, the Mitzvah Fund has been established as a special collection to assist scholarship attendees with unexpected and travel related costs. In addition, the 2015 LAC has decided to augment the scholarship fund by passg the basket or possibly holdg a raffle. IDAA 2014 Pre-registration for the IDAA 2015 conference Norfolk, Virgia will beg on Friday at 10:00am the registration area. There is a discount for early registration. There will be no pre registration on Sunday. IDAA Steerg Committee Policy for Recovery Meetg Attendance The Steerg Committee would like to take this opportunity to remd us all that any of our registered members and guests may attend all of our meetgs. As with all of our conference meetgs, the door may be shut, but not locked. Anyone may attend any of the breakout meetgs, and it is customary to allow the person chairg the meetg to organize the topic and flow of the meetg.
