The scheme is coordinated by Carl Thomas. St Davids Shopping Centre has 190 shops and food outlets / 1.32 million sq ft / 41 million visitors a year. There are currently 12 CFRs at the centre and following a further course in May this will take the total to 18. Carl stated we always have 3 CFRs on shift at any one time, meaning a CFR is available on site 24/7 365 days a year They have 2 kits 9 defibs, 8 mass trauma bags, they hold 2 HART team mass trauma packs on site. Carl added In the time that the CFR scheme has been running we dealt with a cardiac arrest using a defib on a male patient who is alive to tell the tale. 2 Defibrillator Audit The Responder Mail The Welsh Ambulance Service has a responsibility to ensure that all defibrillators used by CFRs are audited annually and checked for damage and cleanliness. As 1 st April is our new training year, we are planning to carry out an audit to identify and correctly log the defibrillators held by CFRs. Please see below the form that needs to be completed for each and every defib held with your scheme. Please can we ask that you ensure that you put in as much information as you can provide. If you would like to receive paper copies of this please let us know or we can arrange a date/time to do the check for you. Defibrillator Annual Check Form.docx Dr Jennifer Bucknell Award 2017 The Dr Jennifer Bucknell Community First Responder Award is currently in the process of being finalised to receive nominations for CFRs or CFR team. NOMINATIONS for the Dr Jennifer Bucknell Memorial Award will recognise the clinical excellence of Community First Responders. The coveted award will be presented to an individual or team who have gone the extra mile in their role as Community First Responders for the Trust. This should encompass the delivery of high quality care and a contribution to improved patient outcomes. Plymouth-born Jennifer was a first responder who was studying medicine at Cardiff University when she died suddenly in The 23-year-old, who studied at Dene Magna School in Mitcheldean and Sir Thomas Rich's School in Gloucester before going to Cardiff, was a talented rower and was due to qualify as a doctor in the summer of that year. We will send out more information as soon as we receive it. Handheld Device We appreciate there has been a few issues with the handheld devices and we are trying hard to resolve these issues, with lots of end to end testing and investigating. With your help, errors can be logged for investigation and a solution found, however we need to provide accurate, detailed information. If you have any issues please ; Ang on amb_first.responder.south@wales.nhs.uk Please provide as much information as you can; Signal strength, E, H, H+ Which network the device was on Call sign Device ID (4 digit code on device) Issue with phone Please remember when you first log on to send a message to CCC to make sure they have received your log on successfully, ensure that the Responder App is left up and running on the phone, at all times try to ensure the phone has the best signal. Please ensure that once you leave an incident you press Clear, especially before logging off. The device is battery hungry so please try and keep it on charge. We know of some schemes that have purchased external battery packs as a backup if on a job for a long time. We will be providing an update on issues that we have found and FAQs with the device shortly.

4 Mind Cymru Launches New Blue Light Programme in Wales MIND Cymru today launches its Blue Light Programme of support for emergency services staff and volunteers in the police, fire, ambulance and search and rescue services across Wales. Mind s own research shows that nearly nine in ten emergency workers have experienced stress, low mood or poor mental health while at work. The Blue Light Programme will offer training to staff to help them manage the situations they face, as well as training for managers to offer support to their teams. As part of the programme Mind Cymru will also establish a network of Blue Light Champions to support and advocate for colleagues, as well as a wider peer support network within the emergency services in Wales. Sara Moseley, Director of Mind Cymru, said: Blue light workers do an extremely challenging job day in, day out, frequently encountering difficult and traumatic situations. Working alongside our local Mind network in Wales, the Blue Light programme will allow us to support more than 20,000 people across Wales. Claire Vaughan, the Welsh Ambulance Service s Executive Director of Workforce and Organisational Development, said: Working for an emergency service can be challenging both physically and mentally, so we re delighted that Mind s Blue Light Programme will allow us to access additional resources to support our dedicated staff and volunteers. Looking after our colleagues, who save lives day in, day out and support people at their most vulnerable, is really important to us and this is a very welcome addition to the mental health support we already provide. We will be looking for CFR assistance, more information on how to apply and when registration will open will be sent out as soon as we have the information.
