1 DELAWARE CHAPTER NEWSLETTER Volume 1, Issue 5 June 2014 President s Message Dear Chapter Members: Happy June to Delaware NASW members! I hope this finds you all well and planning your summer vacations. (Remember how important self-care is to all of us!) Last week I had a wonderful conference and meeting in Washington, D.C., sponsored by the National Network to End Domestic Violence, and the Delaware Coalition to End Domestic Violence. This was part of an annual conference and meeting with legislators regarding funding for domestic violence programs. It was an interesting pre-meeting with the coalitions across the nation, and then meetings on Wednesday with our legislative aides. We are blessed to have some of the best leaders in Congress with Senators Coons, Carper, and Representative Carney. They support our domestic violence work, and the meetings went well. Thanks to Mariann Kenville-Moore who organized the travel arrangements, Carol Post, Executive Director of the DCADV, and Faye Myer who attended as a representative of WEAVER. June is the year end for the NASW Chapter. There will be changes in the Board and Executive Committee. Results of elections, as well as our new Executive Director, will be announced shortly. I will be going off the Board on June 30, as will Debra O Neal. I have enjoyed working with Deb who is a great organizer and very knowledgeable about NASW policy. Deb, thankfully is willing to stay on in some capacity. We will likely see her as a chair of a committee. Stay tuned. As you many know, the Board meetings are open to all NASW members. We encourage everyone to come to the meetings. Our next meeting, however, June 19, will be by conference call. I imagine you will be seeing a notice shortly with regard to July/August s meeting. I urge you to become involved in your Chapter. Thank you for your continued support and I hope to meet or speak with you soon. NASW DE Hires New Executive Director NASW DE Chapter is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Marlene A. Saunders as its new Executive Director. Dr. Saunders, a seasoned social worker and administrator with over four decades of practice in the field of social work, will assume the administrative helm of the Chapter in mid July. Dr. Saunders will retire on June 30th from Delaware State University with over 29 years of service as an educator. She has served as an Instructor, Assistant Professor, Director of Field Instruction, MSW Program Director and Department Chairperson. The Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Dr. Saunders as its Executive Director. Eleanor M.
