1 TEAM FEBRUARY 29, 2016 Tell us something good Occupational Medicine Submitted by: Treva Shirley The T.J. Regional Health Occupational Medicine Department is located in the Rock House. The department is staffed by Treva Shirley, Industry Navigator and Katie Shepard, Health Educator. Dr. Brad Mallory is our staff Occupational Medicine Physician. His office is located at the Pavilion. The T.J Occupational Medicine Program is approximately one year old. Much of the first year has been spent increasing relationships with current partners and getting out into our service area to build relationships with industries and businesses to utilize T.J. Samson for their employee needs. Our service area includes the counties of Adair, Barren, Green, Hart, Metcalfe, Monroe, and Russell. Occupational Medicine is a branch of medicine that focuses on preventing disease and promoting wellness among the workforce. When partnering with a new industry, we set Dr. Mallory up for a tour of the facility. A tour is a great way for Dr. Mallory to meet all the staff that we will work with and to get an idea of what the employee s work requirements are on a daily basis. For example, does the employees job require a lot of lifting, repetitive movement, is there excessive noise in the work place, or are there any other environmental issues that might be involved? Each industry has a different wish list for what services they need from us. Some only want to use us for pre-employment screens, others prefer to use for workers compensation injuries Left to right: Katie Shepard, Dr. Brad Mallory and Treva Shirley through Dr. Mallory, and some use us for all of their employee needs. Our goal is for each industry to choose T.J. Regional Health for anything that they require. We are very fortunate to have the advantage of many different locations in our service area and 24/7 service for industries to send their employees. No one else in our area can offer all that we can! Treva is out in our service area meeting with industries to share the services we offer, get all of our accounts set up, schedule events, and answer any questions related to the customer account. In December 2015, we were fortunate to extend our services by adding Katie as our Health Educator. Katie is out in our communities offering many types of health education such as smoking cessation, blood borne pathogens, and worksite wellness. The T.J. Regional Occupational Medicine Program is proud to serve the surrounding area industries with services and programs that will increase the health and wellness of their employees. Here are some of the services we provide to our industries. Pre-employment drug screens Workers Comp injuries Biometric Screening Smoking cessations DOT physicals Immunizations Hearing screens Pulmonary Function Tests Worksite wellness

2 Happy Anniversary! John Orum and Harold McCoy not only shared the fact that they were neighbors on the Stepdown Unit, they happened to be celebrating the same anniversary date, February 23rd. John and Margo Orum were celebrating their 53rd anniversary and Harold and Peggie McCoy were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Since they were both going to be in the hospital on their special day, nurses on the T.J. Samson Stepdown Unit decided to help them all celebrate their anniversaries with balloons and dessert. A special thank you to Susannah Trammel, Ashley Smith, Laura Branham and Rachel Massey for putting the celebration together.
