Fall is in the air school is in full swing, and our Aggie students have settled into the routines of college life. How about our Aggie Football team, it s been a rough couple of weeks, but in general, it has been a couple of rough weeks in our world. I would like to take a moment to think about the people effected by hurricanes Harvey and Irma and the mass shooting in Las Vegas. If your family was affected by any of these events, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Aggie Moms Connecting (AMC) is looking forward to getting together again this month for the AMC Pottery Plates on October 24. We had a great time at Painting with a Twist. We created great paintings of the Aggie Barn. My painting was less the stellar, but I had a great time. Also, Tuesday, November 14 get ready for Kendra Scott shopping! Be on the lookout for more information in the weekly s on all AMC events! Thanks to all who paid your membership dues new, returning, and associate members! Membership is a focus of CCAM in the fall. We had over 80 new moms attend our New Mom s Welcome last month and we had great representation of membership at our first general meeting of the year. If you have not yet joined this year, now is the time to do so. You are encouraged to pay your dues by October 16 so you can continue to receive our s and newsletters and ensure you are listed in our membership directory distributed at the November general meeting. Fundraising is also a focus for CCAM in the fall. Our pecan sales are underway and orders are due at our October 16 general meeting. This year we continue to offer bags of shelled pecans and giftready flavored pecans. It s a great time to connect with past Aggie moms and introduce new moms to the delicious pecans we sell. You will find information in the newsletter on other fall fundraisers such as our very own Aggie-grown Poinsettias available for the holidays. Scrip Gift Cards can also be ordered monthly. They make great gifts or you can use the gift cards yourself. Contact friends, relatives, and clients and let s make this a great year raising funds for student scholarships and organizations. We will have Goodie Bags available at the October general meeting. We only have a few extras available for sell! This is not a fundraiser, just something special for your students as they finish the fall semester goodie bags packed with love and care by Aggie moms! We will also be filling our Halloween bags at the meeting and discussing recycling. As you can tell, our October meeting will be a busy meeting but a great way to get to know many new moms, make new friends, and be a part of great traditions! Here are a few ideas to get you started. Let s face it, you were going to buy items at these locations anyway you may as well earn scholarship funds while you are shopping. There is no additional cost, they never expire, and the Collin County Aggie Moms club receive the rebates right away! CCAM receives a percentage of each purchase at the amount listed. 8 Volume 34 / Issue 2 October 2017 Textile Recycling: It is Easy Being Green According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, 85% of all discarded textiles 12 million tons are sent to landfills every year where they undergo years of decomposition. Fortunately, in the 21st century, Americans have started to become more and more aware of the waste they produce and the environmental damage that follows. Today, more people are taking part in recycling an act that is extremely simple and easy, with major environmental benefits. Donations are a form of recycling that most people take for granted. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the U.S. textile industry is the fifth largest contributor to CO2 emissions in the United States. Clothing and textiles are nearly 100 percent recyclable, and if every U.S. resident recycled just one t-shirt, we would recover 210 billion gallons of water and keep one billion pounds of CO2 out of our atmosphere! Yes, you and your t-shirt can make a difference. Wondering how? You may recycle your old attire, whether it s through donation, thrift store shopping, or simple curbside recycling. As a result, you will be contributing not only to the environment, but to the economy as well. When you recycle, you conserve raw materials and the energy required in the manufacturing process. In this case, less is better! The less raw materials extracted, the lighter the load is on Mother Earth. The less energy used, the smaller the carbon footprints and greenhouse gases and emissions. This fall, CCAM is taking part in an eco-friendly fundraiser event. From November 20 through December 3, you may drop off any unwanted clothing and household items at Recycle 2 Support on 2417 FM423, Little Elm, TX 75068, and CCAM will earn funds for every pound of donations that come in. All you have to do is put together your unwanted items, drive to the location, mention that your donation is for CCAM and an attendant will unload your donations for you! Page 8
