18 STEPS SUCCESS STORIES Recently, I went to the doctor for my annual physical exam. Because of my participation in the steps program, I learned that my blood pressure is normal, my blood sugar level is normal, my cholesterol level is normal and I lost 6 pounds! -- Martha, Louisiana
19 STEPS SUCCESS STORIES I completed a 5K on May 16th. I used the STEPS program to set goals to increase my exercise to 4x/week for 30 min. -- Christine, Michigan
20 STEPS SUCCESS STORIES Since signing up to participate in the STEPS program, I have lost 24 pounds. Just taking the initiative to sign up gave me the motivation to make a lifestyle change. I plan to keep going! -- Patti, Missouri
21 STEPS SUCCESS STORIES I walked my first 5K as a result of participating and being encouraged by the STEPS challenge. This was a big deal for me. I have become addicted to writing my steps/exercise down on the activity calendars, even when the activity for the month is different. Thanks for the program and motivation! -- Ellen, Missouri
22 STEPS SUCCESS STORIES A few of us decided after the holidays that we needed to motivate and encourage each other to eat better and exercise. We agreed that right after work would be the best time to get a work out in, we reserved the studio in the high school, which was not being used, and we started working out three days a week. 26 SET GOALS TOGETHER Participate in community walks (i.e., March of Dimes or walks for heart disease or cancer).
27 WHAT S ALREADY AVAILABLE? Can you use the school s track, weight room, or other athletic facilities to exercise together as a group?
28 PROVIDE REWARDS Think bulletin board listings, healthy incentives or discounts to health clubs). Promote success stories or employees of the month. Recognize the coordinator of wellness activities.
29 INITIATE SECRET PALS Hold a secret pal drawing. During the month, each employee is encouraged to do nice things for his or her secret pal (i.e., messages a secret message left on a chair or special gifts, such as fruit or homegrown flowers).
30 USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM Offer flexible lunch periods and breaks to encourage individual, group or buddy walks.
31 SWAP HEALTHY RECIPES Hold an employee luncheon bring a healthy lunch to pass and share the recipe.
