This bulletin is designed to help match you with a serving opportunity that caters to your passions and challenges you to grow spiritually! Look over each opportunity and prayerfully consider which one(s) might best fit you. If you can t find an exact match, don t worry! Sometimes we experience the most growth by trying new things and venturing outside of our comfort zones. Also, we are always available to sit with you and help you find the your best opportunity at BRC! To sign up for any of the below teams, please contact Pauline Santos at serving@blackrock.org. CAFÉ Café Counter Team Sundays Twice a month Flexible Shifts (before, during or after each worship service!) Foster a friendly atmosphere at Black Rock as you serve our guests, operate the register and prepare and display food in our Café. Café Self-Serve Station Team Sundays Twice a month Flexible Shifts (before, during or after each worship service!) If you prefer to serve behind the scenes, we need help with coffee-making and coffee service set-up or tear down. Brew coffee first-thing Sunday morning and set up our self-serve coffee/tea stations (8am), serve during the morning to keep the coffee flowing (during each service) or help after church to clean up those areas and wash out the coffee containers (1pm). CARE Black Rock Care works closely with our ministry teams to ensure that each person receives exceptional care. We are devoted to caring for the young and not so young with ongoing and seasonal resources designed to serve everyone from families with small children to our senior adults! Care Contact Team Monday-Sunday Weekly minutes per contact Call those in need (i.e. the hospitalized or homebound along with those in rehabilitation and retirement centers) to offer continuous support and prayer in these difficult times. Care Meals Teams Monday-Sunday Monthly or as often as desired 1-3 hours Share encouragement and love as you prepare and deliver meals to those recovering from serious illness, surgery and other difficult situations. 1
2 Care Transportation Team Monday-Saturday Weekly 1-3 hours Encourage people as you provide transportation to church services and health care appointments (doctors, hospitals, etc.). COMMUNICATIONS Communication today takes many different avenues. The Communications Team at Black Rock seeks to help people take their next step through all our communication tools. Facebook Development Flexible days and times 3 hours per month Improve our communication and help our guests take the next step at Black Rock through the great tool that is Facebook. If you are a Facebook guru and would like to leverage every function of Facebook to help others connect to Black Rock, we d love to have you! Photography Flexible days and times 4 hours per month Use your photography skills to create great quality our photos for our publications and announcements. Often pictures send a much more powerful message than words! Graphic Artist Flexible days and times Weekly 2 hours Create graphics for our services and special programs, and give input on many of our publications. In today s culture graphics are a key way to communicate, use your skills help us stay on the forefront of this trend! FACILITIES Many hands make light work! Our facilities teams keep our building and grounds clean and welcoming. There are opportunities to serve weekly, monthly or for special events. This is a great way for families to serve together and to invest in being the best possible stewards of God s property. Sunday Clean Team Sundays Twice a month 12:30-1:30 pm This team performs light cleaning duties after our worship services. Duties include: vacuuming, trash collection, wiping surfaces/tables, sweeping and making sure main areas are tidy following Sunday services. Saturday Grounds Team Saturdays Twice a month 9am to Noon This seasonal Grounds team handles: weeding, weed whacking, leaf blowing, some mowing (bring your own lawn mowers, weed whackers, leaf blowers if available). 2
3 Mid-Week Maintenance Team Preferably Wednesdays, but any weekday okay Daytime as available Assist our lead custodian with deeper cleaning, painting and maintenance throughout the church building as well as with seasonal outdoor labor. Special Projects Clean Team Saturdays Quarterly or prior to major holidays/special events 9:00am -1pm Volunteers assist with deeper cleaning, painting and maintenance throughout the church building as well as with seasonal outdoor labor. GUEST CONNECTIONS Those serving with Guest Connections provide the warmest possible welcome for our guests and help them connect with the Black Rock community. Sunday Greeting Team Sundays Monthly 40 min (20 minutes before and 20 minutes into worship services) Greet people as they enter the church building and help them connect with Black Rock resources. This is a crucial serving role as you are often the first person a first-time guest encounters at Black Rock. Ushers Sundays Monthly 40 min (20 min before & 20 min during worship services) Greet people as they enter the worship service, provide them the bulletin and help them to be seated. This is a crucial serving role since you will be welcoming our guest to Black Rock! Parking Team Sundays Monthly 45 min (15 min before and 30 min during worship service) The Yellow Jackets, as they are kindly called, help our guests find a parking spot quickly and easily. Our parking team is instrumental in welcoming atmosphere for Black Rock members and guests alike. KIDS MINISTRY At Black Rock we want kids to be excited to come to church to not only connect with others but most importantly to grow closer to their heavenly Father. Our Kids Ministry focuses on bringing children to a real and active relationship with God at an early age. There are volunteer opportunities on both Sundays and weekdays in areas such as Small Groups, praise and worship, drama, media, snacks, crafts, computer check-in, security, and more. If you have a passion to see children grow in their relationship with God, this is the ministry for you! Kids Cover Team Sundays Every Other Week During worship services Greet families as they enter our Kids areas, assist with Check-in Kiosks, check security badges to welcome our families and promote the safety of our children. 3
4 Kids Welcome Desk Sundays Weekly or every other week 1 hour during worship services Many new families are showing interest in our Kids areas! If you have a friendly personality and great organizational skills, help us register and assist new families use our computer check-in system. Basic computer skills are required. Kids Cove Preschool Teachers and Helpers Sundays Weekly or every other week During worship services Lead and oversee activities to teach our preschoolers about Jesus in a fun and engaging way. Promote a safe and welcoming atmosphere among our little ones. Help is especially needed with 3-4 year olds. Kids Cove Jr Nursery Care Sundays Weekly or every other week During worship services Help watch and entertain our youngest members. If you love to hold babies or play with toddlers we would love your help! Uptown Elementary Teachers and Helpers Sundays Weekly or every other week 8:15-9:45 am or 9:30-11:15 am Be a mentor to encourage our elementary school students. Encourage our 1st through 4th grade students to grown in their faith while taking advantage of all the activities our Uptown Elementary wing has to offer. Awana Leaders Monday Nights Weekly 6:30-7:45pm or 7:00-8:30pm Awana leaders to help kids ages 4 through 4th grade grow closer to God through Bible lessons, games, crafts, and other fun activities. SHINE - Special Needs Ministry Sundays Weekly or bi-weekly During worship services Seize the unique opportunity to help children with special needs learn about Jesus. As a shine volunteer you will be paired up with a student to become a friend and help them engage in the activities. Mid-Week Office Help Mondays or Wednesdays Weekly 9:30am-2pm Assist with the administrative tasks of our Kids Ministry. Office volunteers must be willing to do various office tasks and computer skills, especially an understanding of Microsoft Office is preferable. SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT We are dedicated to helping people of all ages grow into high impact Christ-followers through our Spiritual Development process of Worship, Community, Serving and Ownership. Volunteers help Black Rock members and guest take their best next step of growth. 4
5 Prayer Team Sundays Monthly minutes 25 people needed Pray with Black Rock members and guest before the 10am service and pray with people in the Worship Center following Sunday services. Connect those who ask for prayer to to additional spiritual support. Marriage Mentor Team Once a year 6-8 weeks per year Share life lessons with and advise couples who are considering marriage. A marriage mentor team is a couple who has been married at least 10 years and is in a healthy marriage relationship. They will be trained to use an assessment instrument (FOCCUS) as a guide for their discussions with couples. Community Group Leader Fall, Winter or Spring Terms Weekly 8-9 weeks per term Lead discussions, ask questions and share personal experiences to establish a welcoming small group environment that encourages members to grow closer to Christ and closer in community. New facilitators needed in various local areas (Fairfield, Shelton, Trumbull, Westport, Milford, Stratford, etc.). Commitments of one year are preferred; day of the week is dependent on the group. Community Group Host Fall, Winter or Spring Terms Weekly 8-9 weeks per term Open up your home to a community group during each term. A host creates a warm, caring atmosphere and has enough comfortable seating that is distraction-free for the group members. New hosts needed in various local areas (Fairfield, Shelton, Trumbull, Westport, Milford, Stratford, etc). Commitments of one year are preferred; day of the week is dependent on the group. Moms of The Rock Childcare Workers 2nd & 4th Tuesdays each month September-May 9:30-11:30am Care for babies and preschoolers while moms meet to grow in their faith and receive support. Help on one or both Tuesdays each month. No experience required but must love children training provided. STUDENT MINISTRY Student Ministry at Black Rock offer a exciting and challenging opportunities for students to encounter God and develop meaningful relationships. We desire to see students gain ownership of their faith and for them to truly experience how much fun it is to live the life God intended them to live. We are exploding with growth during our mid-week programs and would welcome your involvement in this life-changing ministry. Middle School Leaders Wednesdays Weekly 7-8:45 pm 5
6 Hang out with our middle school students, build relationships, and co-lead a small group discussion. Allow God to use you as you pour into the lives of these extremely moldable youngsters. Female leaders are especially needed! High School Leaders Tuesdays Weekly 7-9:15 pm Hang out with high school students, build relationships, and co-lead a small group discussion. You will partner with another adult leader as you pour into a specific grade and gender small group of students. TECH & WORSHIP If you are interested in technology and have a desired to create engaging services and media this is a team for you! Whether you d like to use your talents up front or to serve behind the scenes, we can use your help. Many positions have job training so no previous experience is needed! Sunday Morning Tech Team Sunday morning Once a month 4 hours Work on with our computer programs to display lyrics, videos, pictures and other media during each service. Run stage lights during each service. Entry level and advanced positions are available. All levels of skill are welcome and training is provided so no previous experience is necessary. Video Production Flexible days and times 5 hours per month Create, produce and/or edit videos for our services and programs. Projects will be randomly assigned as needed. If you are interested in producing, directing, scripting, shooting and organization, now is your chance to be part of a team that will have an active role in our journey for years to come. Stage Creation Team Flexible days and times 4 hours per month Help create new sets for sermon series and programs using props, lights and light construction. If you have experience in painting, graphic design and construction, please look to serve in this new role. Adult Choir Sundays & Thursdays Flexible Schedule Sundays 7:45-9:30am, Thursday 7-9 pm Sing with our Traditional Service adult choir, every week or arrange a flexible schedule with the director. All experience levels welcome 6
7 SERVING AT BRC - ONBOARDING PROCESS Ready to serve at Black Rock? We have an onboarding process just for you! If you have not yet completed our volunteer screening process, you will need to do so before beginning serve. This is required of all adults serving in any capacity at Black Rock Church and is designed to not only help you find the best serving opportunity for you but also to equip you serve well. It is quick, three-part process including a Volunteer Orientation Seminar, SafeGuard Training and a Background Screening. Volunteer Orientation Seminar Also, please join us for an orientation seminar where we will talk about using your gifts, heart, experiences, and personality to serve at Black Rock. Whether you have never served at Black Rock before or are looking for a better fix, this seminar will open your eyes to where God might be leading you in serving. Orientations happen monthly and we ask that you sign up on the Serving page of at the Next Steps Kiosk or through our app under "connect". (blackrock.org/serve) Volunteer Safeguard Training All Black Rock volunteers are required to complete SafeGuard From Abuse Certification before serving. This online training focuses on best practices to protect children and vulnerable adults in our midst from abuse. As Black Rock volunteers we are mandated reporters of child abuse by the State of Connecticut and this training is designed to educate and protect our community. Volunteers may take it before or after the volunteer orientation class but must complete it before beginning to serve. Volunteer Screening As part of the onboarding process, all Black Rock volunteers read and sign a Background Screening Consent form.
