Special attention will be placed on the hip, knee and ankle joints. Rick Kasser, PT, PhD Associate Professor in the Physical Therapy Department and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Neurobiology. PhD in Anatomy Kansas University. Eclectic Approach to Manual Therapy Mark Temme, PT, OCS A hands on course with instruction in manual therapy techniques, including grade 5, which can be utilized immediately in the clinic to improve clinical outcomes for patients. The emphasis is on instruction in manual techniques that are used routinely in daily practice and are integrated with the current best evidence. Certified orthopedic specialist with 20 years experience in outpatient orthopedics primarily managing patients with pain of spinal origin. Mark originally trained at the University of South Australia in the Maitland approach and subsequently completed certification in the McKenzie and Mulligan approach to manual therapy as well as extensive training in the osteopathic approach to manual therapy. Additionally Mark is a guest Lecturer at the UT Physical Therapy Program, Memphis. Torticollis: diagnosis, treatment and Evidence Based Practice Jodi Jennings, PT, DPT, PCS, Bertie Gatlin, PT, PCS, and Dr. David Spence S Jodi Jennings, PT, DPT, PCS has devoted her practice to pediatric care for over 10 years. Jodie graduated from UT-Health Science Center in 2002 with a Master s of Physical Therapy. In 2007, she earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from UTHSC. In 2005, Jodie became certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialities as a Pediatric Clinical Specialist. Jodie is a member of the APTA, pediatric section of the APTA, and the TPTA. Jodie currently works at Baptist Pediatric Rehabilitation in Germantown, TN. Bertie Gatlin, PT, PCS has been a practicing physical therapist for 24 years. Her career has focused in the area of pediatric PT with an emphasis on the NICU and early childhood development. Bertie graduated from University of Memphis with B.S. in Special Education in 1985 and from UT-Health Science Center in 1989 with a B. S. in Physical Therapy. She is currently Assistant Professor at UTHSC Department of Physical Therapy and instructs Pediatrics in PT and Neurological Disorders I. 3

5 She is a candidate for the Doctorate of Science in Physical Therapy Degree from UTHSC. Bertie is a Pediatric Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialities. She is a member of the APTA, serves as West Tennessee District Chair for the TPTA, Nominating Chair for West Tennessee TPTA, Tennessee State Representative for Pediatric Section of the APTA and Vice Chair for the NICU SIG of the Pediatric Section. She continues to practice with Methodist Healthcare Germantown NICU and University Therapists pediatric out patient clinic. Determining Spine Exercise Prescription: PTA Decision Criteria (A course strictly for PTAs only) 7:30am to 12:00pm 3 hours lecture and 1 hour lab 4 contact hours Baron Johnson, PT This course is designed to teach the PTA new research regarding spine dysfunction, published classifications of Lumbar and Cervical Dysfunctions, and criteria to developing an innovated exercise approach. The course will challenge the inexperienced and experienced PTA clinician with demanding exercise routines using evidence based information, cutting edge equipment and dynamic techniques to bring about recovery. Baron is a 1979 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, School of Health Related Professions, in Physical Therapy. He is published in the areas of Orthopedic Spine Care and Industrial Physical Therapy. Baron has provided industries across the Eastern and Midwest United States with solutions to prevention of Industrial and Spine injuries the past 30 years. He has lectured extensively to different industries on establishing an In house Ergonomic Program, and to other Therapists on establishing a clinical spine rehabilitation program. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, has served on the BOD for the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association the past 17 years and currently serves as Chapter Treasurer. Baron is a past member of the North American Spine Society and Human Factor and Ergonomic Society. Baron s daily clinical practice focuses on spine care and rehabilitation. Management of Severe Joint Disease and Chronic Illness: Lessons from the Bleeding Disorder Population 8:30am to 10:30am Ruth Mulvany, PT, MS, DPT and Janet Tuller, RN, MPH Physical therapy and nursing strategies for assessment, intervention, research, and management of complex musculoskeketal conditions and co-existing illness in the bleeding disorders population. S Ruth Mulvany is an associate professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Department of Physical Therapy in Memphis, Tennessee. Through her faculty practice, she has 27 years of experience caring for people with rheumatic/connective tissue disorders including scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, and Ehler s Danlos. Her primary focus has been the bleeding disorders population who have severe joint disease and, in some cases, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and other co-morbidities. She has authored professional publications and journal articles and lectures nationally and internationally on these subjects. Jan Tuller served as clinic nurse coordinator of the Hemophilia Treatment Centers in Knoxville and Memphis, Tennessee. For over 30 years she managed adults and children with severe disorders and was on the forefront of care in the HIV/AIDS and hepatitis outbreaks in this population. She is a certified nurse specialist in 4

6 management of cancer and AIDS. She received national recognition as The Outstanding Nurse of the Year from the National Hemophilia Foundation. In addition to vast clinical skills, she has been actively involved in research, publications and national scientific presentations. Deep Brain Stimulators & Parkinsons Disease Ellen Evans Markwell, PT and Dr. Karl Sillay Practical approach of evaluating and treating the patient with PD S Ellen Evans Markwell, PT I am Senior PT supervising outpatient adult rehab at Methodist LeBonheur Hospital Germantown. I have been working in outpatient PT for the last 22 years. My primary focus is orthopedics and neurology, specifically focusing on adults diagnosed with movement disorders, specifically Parkinson s Disease. Dr. Karl Sillay obtained his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in He received his Medical Degree in 1999 from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his internship at Vanderbilt University, and also his Neurosurgical Residency, which he completed in In 2007, Dr. Sillay completed a Fellowship in Epilepsy and Functional Neurosurgery at the University of California at San Francisco. He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Evidence Based Management of Hip and Knee OA 1:00pm to 5:00pm Adam Risinger and Craig O Neil Vestibular Rehab 1:00pm to 3:00pm Melanie Morton, PT, NCS and Teresa Murphy, PT S Teresa graduated from the UT Center for Health Sciences with a BS in PT in Memphis TN in December 1976 and has been working in clinical practice for Baptist Memorial Healthcare System for 36 years. Over the past 15 years her clinical focus has been on neurological dizziness and balance issues. She achieved her certification in Vestibular Rehabilitation from the APTA course at Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 2010 and has developed the Vestibular Rehab / Balance Outpatient Program at Baptist Rehab. Germantown. Melanie Morton, PT, NCS has over 13 years of experience in the area of neurological physical therapy. She graduated with a BS in Physical Therapy from the University of Tennessee, Memphis in She achieved her board certification as a Neurologic Certified Specialist in She is a Member of the APTA, APTA Neuro Section and the TPTA. She currently works at Baptist Rehabilitation in Germantown in outpatient as a neurological physical therapist. Alan Meade PT, ScDPT, MPT and Jason Richardson, PT, DPT, OCS, COMT Jason Richardson is Sr. Vice-President of Clinical Operations for Results Physiotherapy Centers were he oversees the clinical operations and strategic positioning the organization. Results Physiotherapy operates 5

7 45 private practice clinics in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina and Georgia. Jason earned his Master s degree in Physical Therapy in 1998, and completed his Doctoral studies in 2004 from Shenandoah University. Jason is active politically with eliminating state and federal regulations that negatively obstruct patient access and limit the practice of licensed physical therapists. Jason also pursues top of license collaborations among health providers in innovative health delivery models to improve population health. Jason is served 2 terms as Secretary on the executive board of the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association (TPTA), 1 term on the Referral for Profit Committee with the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and served several consulting roles with insurance payors and private practices. Most recently Jason serves on the APTA s Physical Therapy Classification and Payment System Task Force and the Private Practice Sections Payment Policy Committee. Jason is very passionate about eliminating obstacles that preclude patient access and fair payment to quality therapy services. Physical Therapy in Bartlett, TN since He graduated from the University of Memphis in 1996 and received a degree in Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and also graduated from Belmont University in Over the past 12 years, he has attended many physical therapy and manipulation courses and seminars focusing on the spine, neck, and upper body. Ken was also an instructor for the UT Memphis Physical Therapy and Belmont University Physical Therapy. 6

8 Jim has been in out-patient Physical Therapy since He began his private practice, Rehab etc, in Memphis TN He developed a focus on Myofascial pain and dysfunction. Jim received his certification in Manual Myofascial pain in 2007, and subsequent Intramuscular Deep Dry Needling certification from Janet G. Travell, Myopain Seminars in He enjoys outdoors camping and traveling. He has been married to Terri Hambrick 30 years and has 2 adult children. The Role of the Physical Therapist in reducing re-hospitalizations of the chronically ill and elderly patients 3:00pm to 5:00pm Linda Bloodworth, PT, MS, GCS A disproportionate amount of health care dollars are spent on older adults and hospitalizations, specifically for hospitalizations related to chronic disease. In this session we will discuss factors related to older adults need for hospitalizations and inability to successfully age in place. We will review the literature to determine what factors can potentially reduce hospitalizations and what role physical therapy may play in that effort. Jurisprudence 1:45pm to 3:45pm Mary Pat Jobes, PT This course covers legal issues in physical therapy and the Tennessee Practice Act and Rules Governing the Practicing of Physical Therapy. Ms. Jobes received her BS degree in physical therapy from the University of Tennessee Memphis and a Master s degree in physical therapy from NYU. She served as Chair of Memphis District of the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association and the BOD for TPTA for 11 years, President of the Acute Care Section of the American Physical Therapy Association for two terms and on the Acute Care section BOD for a total of 9 years. She is a site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. Ms. Jobes served as the APTA External Liaison to the Joint Commissions PTAC for Hospitals for 8 years and served as a Trustee of the PT- PAC. Ms. Jobes is the Manager of Physical Therapy at Haywood Park Community Hospital. She has taught Ethics and Jurisprudence for TPTA for the last 10 years. Linda Bloodworth, MS, PT GCS graduated in 1982 from Samford University and went on to obtain an MS in Physical Therapy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in She is currently Regional Rehab Consultant (for Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy Services) for National HealthCare Corporation s Central Tennessee Region, consisting of twelve Skilled Nursing Facilities, seven Homecare Offices and numerous therapy contract sites. In addition to her consultant responsibilities, Linda is program director of NHC s APTA credentialed Geriatric Residency Program. 7
