4 Courses Medical Screening for Referral: Differential Diagnosis for Direct Access David Sheer, PT, DPT, MOMT BIO David Sheer has been a practicing clinician since 1978 and has specialized in orthopedic manual therapy since He earned his Masters in Orthopedic Manual Therapy after completed the 4 year residency and fellowship program with the Ola Grimsby Institute. He was an author of the original course work for the OGI and taught as a primary instructor in the residency program for 12 years. David received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy through the OGI. Conclusion/Contact information BIOS Tabitha graduated from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1996 with her BS in Physical Therapy and has been a practicing physical therapist in Chattanooga and surrounding area since that time. She has since completed an orthopedic residency program through EIM and obtained her DPT through Regis University. Tabitha s primary practice experience has been in outpatient settings but has also included time in home health, SNF s and hospital acute and subacute facilities. She has been involved in the start-up of several new therapy facilities and has worked as the director of outpatient therapy clinics for the last 14+ years of her career. She has recently transitioned into a role with the compliance department for BenchMark Rehab Partners. Tabitha has been heavily involved in the development and training of the ICD-10 transition plan for her company. She currently lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee with her husband David, 4 children, 2 cats and one dog. Steven graduated from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee, in He is currently the clinic director for two of BenchMark Physical Therapy s clinics in eastern Tennessee and is the membership chair for the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association. He is currently a Resident in BenchMark Rehab Partner s Orthopedic Residency program and enrolled in Evidence in Motion s Manual Fellowship program. He is a certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist through Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars and certified in dry needling. He has worked on the ICD10 Task Force for BenchMark Rehab Partners and has been educating clinicians regarding ICD10 alongside of Tabitha Harris. He is part owner of a CrossFit box in Athens, Tennessee and spends his free time coaching at his CrossFit gym and eating. Advancing your Neurologic Practice: Neurorehabilitation in the 21st Century Renee Brown, PT, PhD COURSE DESCRIPTION As research in neurologic rehabilitation evolves, clinicians are challenged to keep up with the latest advances and to understand how to apply some of the latest research to their clinical practice. This course will review basic neuroanatomy, discuss current imaging technology which is providing a more comprehensive view of the brain. It will cover current literature on motor control, motor learning, and neuroplasticity and how to apply these principles on Monday in the clinic. Evidence for high intensity exercise will be examined. Newer techniques such as transcranial cranial magnetic stimulation, robotics, brain-computer interface, splitbelt treadmill, and virtual reality will be discussed. Active learning exercises will be incorporated throughout the session. COUSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course the participants will be able to: 1. Describe the location, connections, and functions of neuroanatomical structures 4
6 2. Differentiate the different neuroimaging techniques 3. Define motor control and the components/constraints 4. Discuss the factors that can affect neuroplasticity 5. Apply the principles of motor learning to a case 6. Evaluate how to incorporate high intensity exercise with patients 7. Discuss emerging trends and technology for neuro rehabilitation BIO Dr. Brown has been a practicing clinician for 32 years specializing in Neurologic Rehabilitation. She received her B.S in physical therapy from Daemen College, advanced MS in neurologic rehabilitation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Brown currently is the Chair of the School of Physical Therapy at Belmont University and is the Academic Director of the Neurologic Residency at Vanderbilt Pi Beta Phi Rehabilitation Institute and Belmont University. She has done numerous presentations on topics including Motor Control and Motor Learning and Neuroplasticity.
