Interpersonal October 15-18, 2013 Charlotte, NC

Interpersonal INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS Developing/Maintaining mutually satisfying relationships characterized by trust and compassion Talk TO your audience, not AT them 31 Image URL:

Interpersonal INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS Developing/Maintaining mutually satisfying relationships characterized by trust and compassion Connecting with your audience means you actually look at them and talk to them. When you have slides that have huge sections of text that you read to them, you make both you and your audience un-necessary. I mean, if you put your whole presentation into text on your slides, why does anyone, including you, need to be in the room? Add to that the fact that most people don t like to go to conferences to have someone read to them. It is one thing when a novelist or poet is reading from their work in a bookstore or something, but at a conference it is just not a good idea. Long structures of text are for blog posts and technical articles and stuff like that. So, try to keep the text of your slides short. Your slide deck should COMPLEMENT your presentation, not BE your presentation. For real. Oh, and I just want to say that Firefly was a totally awesome show and the fact that it lasted only one season was a total tragedy. Where was I? Oh, right. Stop reading. 32

Interpersonal INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS Developing/Maintaining mutually satisfying relationships characterized by trust and compassion Be honest about what you know/don t know. 33 Image URL:

Interpersonal EMPATHY Recognizing, understanding, and appreciating how other people feel Being able to articulate another person s perspective respectfully Welcome to Fantasy Island! 34 Image URL:

Interpersonal SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Willing to contribute to society, social groups, general welfare Acting responsibly Showing concern for greater community REPreSENT! 35 Image URL:

Interpersonal SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Willing to contribute to society, social groups, general welfare Acting responsibly Showing concern for greater community Please use ZoomIt! 36

Stress Management October 15-18, 2013 Charlotte, NC

Stress Management FLEXIBILITY Adapting emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to unfamiliar, unpredictable, and dynamic circumstances or ideas Egon: I think we should cross the streams. 38 Image URL:

Stress Management STRESS TOLERANCE Coping with stressful or difficult situations Believing one can manage or influence situations in a positive manner KCPO: Keep Calm and Present On 39 Image URL:

Stress Management OPTIMISM Positive attitude and outlook Remaining hopeful and resilient, despite occasional setbacks It could be worse. You could be on fire. ~ Matt Morin 40 Image URL:

Decision Making October 15-18, 2013 Charlotte, NC

Decision Making PROBLEM SOLVING Ability to find solutions to problems where emotions are involved Understanding how emotions impact decision making Know thyself 42 Image URL:

Decision Making REALITY TESTING Capacity to remain objective by seeing things are they really are Recognizing when emotions or personal bias can cause one to be less objective All the people tell me so, but what do all the people know? ~ Monroes 43 Image URL:

Decision Making IMPULSE CONTROL Ability to resist or delay in impulse, drive, or temptation to act Avoiding rash behaviors and decision making I love it when a plan comes together. ~ Hannibal The A Team 44 Image URL:
