1 EDWARD BANKS, MD Surgery Dr. Banks consistently wins high praise from his patients for his thoughtful and thorough care. He brings a deep dedication to comprehensive care and a passion for trauma care to his work in, where he leads the Trauma Care Program. An outstanding surgeon, he has long championed trauma and general surgery care of the highest quality in Marin County. He is widely admired for his devotion to his patients. In all his interactions, he strives to understand their feelings, relieve their anxiety associated with surgery, and help them progress both physically and mentally. His commitment to service extends to the community, where he has volunteered for Operation Access, a program that helps low-income patients receive needed surgeries that they could not otherwise afford.
2 MARC GELMAN, MD Medicine Dr. Gelman has brought insight and keen analytical skill to the areas of access and technology at the San Rafael Medical Center, where he oversees information technology as Assistant Physician-in-Chief. He has helped and encouraged his colleagues in Marin to make the transition from art to science in many areas of performance. He has made significant contributions in his regional work with medical imaging. A strong believer in health education, he imparts a wealth of information on diet, exercise, and behavior to his patients, working with them to help them improve their own health by making wise lifestyle choices.
3 DONALD HENSLEY, MD Pediatrics Dr. Hensley discovered Pediatrics at the end of his residency and knew he had found his calling. A strong advocate for his patients and their families, he cares deeply about the children and families he serves, and consistently strives to provide a level of care that he would be proud to offer his own family. He was instrumental in organizing and creating the screening group for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at and in providing resources for families and children with ADHD. He appreciates the openness and trust of the children he sees, and believes that being entrusted with their care is its own reward. His colleagues admire him for his compassion and dedication.
4 MICHAEL MATSUMOTO, MD Pediatrics As Chief of Technology and Assistant Chief of Pediatrics for, Dr. Matsumoto is dedicated to using the power of information technology to improve care and performance. As a physician, he is widely respected and admired for blending his technological knowledge with a deep commitment to the human side of medical care. He fosters a team approach in his Pediatrics unit with colleagues, staff, patients, and their families, believing that children are best served when all members of the community share responsibility for their health and well being.
5 RICHARD MCCARTHY, MD Neurology Dr. McCarthy serves as Chief of Neurology and Assistant Physician-in-Chief for Access in. He enjoys the incredible support system and the amazing resources available to him as a Kaiser Permanente physician. He particularly believes that KP HealthConnect helped transform him from a good neurologist to a great neurologist. He is equally valuable to the larger community as a leader and volunteer. He has served on the Board of the American Heart Association (AHA) and gives talks throughout Marin County on stroke prevention for the AHA. He volunteers at Rotacare, a free clinic in downtown for uninsured patients. A devoted teacher, he volunteers his time and experience at UC San Francisco, as an attending physician in the Neurology Resident s Clinic, and he helps teach the UCSF Medical School, Neurology Clerkship.
6 ROBERT MYERS, MD Gastroenterology Dr. Myers, one of TPMG s most productive gastroenterologists, has played a major role in the success of s Gastroenterology Department. He created a highly successful notification program for gastrointestinal procedures that has led to the lowest fail-to-keep rate in the region. Although he recently retired, he has stepped into a valuable new role as a volunteer, teaching sigmoidoscopy to physicians in specialties other than Gastroenterology.
7 SETH PECKLER, MD Emergency Dr. Peckler moved to San Francisco in September of 1989, just in time for the World Series pitting the Giants against the A s and, of course, the Earthquake two events that are emblazoned in his memory as a sports enthusiast and a dedicated member of our Emergency Department. He joined s Emergency Department in 1990, while also working as a helicopter flight physician at Stanford University. His patients and colleagues admire and respect him for his personal warmth and many clinical contributions. Beyond these attributes, his colleagues particularly appreciate his culinary prowess, which he puts to work to feed many physicians and hungry family members at key facility functions.
IGNATIUS CHAN, MD. Pediatrics San Francisco 2008 TPMG 60TH ANNIVERSARY
IGNATIUS CHAN, MD Pediatrics As Chief of Information Technology for the Medical Center, Dr. Chan is unflappable in the face of confused, puzzled, and frustrated colleagues dealing with computer issues.
