1 Reporting Period: 26 October 5 November 25 Submission Date: 9 November 25 Afghanistan Earthquake Update Incident Summary: A 7.5 magnitude earthquake centered in Jurm district in northeastern Afghanistan s Badakhshan province struck on the afternoon of 26 October, and was felt across the region. Initial reports indicate damaged homes and potential casualties across northern, central and eastern Afghanistan, impacting 5 provinces (3 ) in total. Badakhshan, Nangarhar, Kunar and Nooristan provinces are the most affected. Initial reports from local authorities suggest approximately 9,274 families affected, with 98 individuals killed and 487 injured. Assessments have been completed in 7 and the distribution of relief items is underway for eligible families. IOM distributed relief items to approx. 3,2 families in Badakhshan, Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Nooristan, Parwan, Panjsher, Kapisa and Takhar provinces while the distribution is ongoing to the assessed families in Badakhshan, Kunar, Nooristan and Kabul provinces. As majority of the assessments are concluded, the distribution of relief items to the verified families has been prioritized. As of 5 November, around 9, families have been verified with their main needs being identifiedd as Non Food Items (NFIs), blankets, tents, hygiene kits and shelters for those whose houses are completely destroyed. Access in some of the affected areas in Badakhshan, Kunar and Nooristan remains a challengee due to difficult terrain and security concerns while efforts are made to coordinate with ARCS and other field level stakeholders to assess families in these areas. Of these verified families, more than,7 families are assisted. East Region: Kunar: Twenty six people have reportedly been killed and 3 injured, with many families losing their shelters, household items and food stocks. Initial reports suggest,264 families affected in 5. Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, WFP, ANDMA, ARCS, RRD, IMC, NRC and DRC have completed assessmentss in all 5. IOM was requested to assess Khas Kunar due to stock unavailability with NRC, the assessment is concluded by IOM and joint team and IOM will provide NFIs, blankets and Assessment of an earthquake-damaged home in Kunar province IOM 25 emergency shelter to 27 families on 7 November. 2,848 families have been identified in 5, of these 2,37 families were assisted by humanitarian partners. IOM distributed NFIs, emergency shelter and solar lanterns to 563 families in Wata Pur, Dara Pech and Chapa Dara while the remaining families were assisted by IMC, ANDMA, ARCS, UNICEF Joint RRD, HHRD, DRC, BARAC, WFP, Islamic Relief, and NRC following coordination. Laghman: Initial reports indicate 254 families affected, with six persons killed and 25 injured in five. assessment teams consisting of IOM, WFP, ANDMA, RRD, IRC, DRC, DoRR and DoAIL completed assessment in all five.

2 656 families have been identifiedd as in need of assistance in Alishang, Alingar, Dawlatshah, Qarghy and Mehtarlam by joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, IRC, ARCS and RRD. 6 families were assisted by humanitarian partners, IOM distributed NFIs, family tents, emergency shelter and solar lanterns to 47 families in Alishang district, while the remaining families were assisted by IMC, ARCS, IRC and DRC following coordination. Nooristan: Initial reports collected through provincial and district authorities indicate 83 families affected, with six persons killed and 76 injured in eight. A joint assessment comprising of IOM, IMC, ARCS and WFP completed assessments in Wama, Do Ab, Nurgram, Wagal, Mandol, Parun, Kamdish and Bari Matal. 99 families have been verified as in need of relief items. 843 families have received assistance from IOM, IMC and ARCS. The assessment in Kamdesh, Bargi Matal where access was challenging due to security concerns and difficult terrain has been completed, ARCS distribute relief items to 24 families in Kamdesh and Barge Matal on 2 November. IOM distributed winter clothing, blankets, solar lantern and tarpaulins to 95 families in Nurgram and Do Ab and will distribute winter warm clothing and blankets to 47 families in Mandol district. Nangarhar: Initial reports indicate,246 families affected, with 23 persons killed and 3 individuals injured in 6. The joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, WFP, SCI, ARCS, NRC, IMC, DRC, IR, NRC, RRD, ANDMA, and Bayat Foundation completed assessments in fifteen and identifiedd 3,28 families in need of on Food Items (NFIs), blankets, tents, hygiene kits and emergency shelters 2,327 families have been assisted by IOM, SCI, WFP, ARCS, UNICEF, Bayat Foundation, IR, NRC, DRC and IRC. IOM assisted 58 families with the provision of household items, blankets, emergency shelter and tents. The assessment in Kama district is ongoing by Islamic Relief. So far 823 families have been verified, of these 58 received relief items (NFIs and food items) from Bayat Foundation and Islamic Relief). Central Region: Kabul: As per the initial information collected through ANDMA and other local stakeholders, 939 families were reported affected in Kabul city, Bagrami, Kalkan, Sarubi and Qarabagh. A joint assessment team consisted of IOM, ANDMA and CARE was initiated on 7 November. The assessment in all are completed, 256 families have been identified in need of NFIs, emergency shelter and food items. IOM will distribute household items, blankets and emergency shelter on 7 November while WFP will cover food needs of the affected families. Parwan: Initial reports indicate 565 families affected, two killed and eleven injured in eight. Joint assessment teams comprised of IOM, CARE, IDSH/WFP, ARCS, ANDMA and DRC have completed assessment in all. families were found affected. NFIs, emergency shelter and food items were distributed to 338 families by IOM, ARCS, ANDMA, CARE and WFP. Panjshir: As per the initial reports, 68 families were reportedly affected and seven persons injured in eight. Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, CARE, ARCS, IDSH/WFP, ANDMA and DRR have completed the assessment, families were found to be affected. IOM distributedd winter warm clothing and blankets to 66 families while remaining families were assisted by CARE, WFP, ANDMA and ARCS following coordination. Kapisa: Initial reports indicate 697 families affected and individuals were injured in seven. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ARCS, ANDMA, DoRR, RRD and IDSH/WFP completed Distribution for affected families in Chrikar, Parwan province IOM 25 2

3 the assessment on 5 November. families have been found to be affected mainly in need of NFIs, emergency shelter and food items. IOM distributed winter warm clothing and blankets to 88 families while the remaining families were assisted by WFP, ANDMA, ARCS and CARE following coordination. Northeast Region: Badakhshan: Initial reports indicate around,9 families affected, with ten persons killed and 5 injured in 2. Joint assessment teams comprised of IOM, WFP, ANDMA, FOCUS, AfghanAid, NAC, CAF, ARCS, AKF, COAR, CONCERN and ROPANI initiated assessments on 28 October. So far, 7,39 families have been found to be affected. Assessments have completed in nine while the assessment in the remaining are ongoing. 3,349 families have received relief items from IOM, ARCS, ANDMA, BARAC, FOCUS, CONCERN and WFP. IOM has distributed household items, winter warm clothing, blankets, solar lanterns and emergency shelters to,2 families in Jurm, Kishim, Shighnan, Zebak, and Ishkashim and will distribute winter warm clothing and blankets to families in Teshkan district on 7 November. IOM has already relocated 2,9 family, winter, blanket and solar lanterns from Mazar and Kabul to Badakhshan and will relocate 3,7 additional winter warm clothing, blankets and solar lanterns from Bamyan, Takhar and Mazar by 8 November to address the unmet needs in Baharak, Darayem, Wardoj and Shuhada. The supply of additional NFIs will address the NFI needs of 2,2 families. UNICEF has committed to deliver NFIs to Badakhshan to address the gap for,7 families in Jurm and Yamgan, these are insecure and the distribution is only possible through ARCS. Baghlan: Initial reports indicate 542 families affected, two persons killed and 23 persons injured in twelve. Joint assessment teams comprised of IOM, ANDMA, FOCUS, WFP, DOWA, DoRR, and ARCS concluded assessments 2. Reassessment is required in Guzargahe Noor, Khost and Firing which will enable humanitarian agencies to identify and eligible families and provide relief items.,749 families have been verified by joint assessment teams mainly in need of hygiene and food items while no major needs for NFIs were identifies. ARCS has distribute relief items to 259 families in Dahne Ghori, Barka and Nahrin while the distribution in the remaining (Khinjan, Doshi, Puli Khomri, Deh Salah, Pule Hisar and Bano) is planned this week as soon as WFP food items are dispatched, UNICEF will distribute hygiene kits to all the affected families. Takhar: Initial reports indicate 96 families affected, with sixteen killed and 49 injured in nine. The joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA, ACTED, Mission East, WFP, PAT and ARCS have completed assessments in all. 937 families were found to be affected, 564 families were assisted by IOM, ANDMA, WFP, UNICEF, ARCS, BARAC and Concern worldwide. IOM distributed household items, emergency shelter, winter warm clothing and blankets to 34 families. No family was found affected in Eshkamesh district; the distribution for the remaining families is ongoing. Southeast Region: Paktia, Ghazni and Khost: According to initial reports, 64 families were affected in three provinces (4 ). Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, IRC, ANDMA, CARE, PIN, ARCS and DoA initiated assessment on 28 October. 62 families were found to be affected and assessments concluded in all. families were assisted with the provision of NFIs and tents by IRC in Khost while families will be assisted by IOM, ANDMA, IRC and PIN on 7 November. 3
