2 Invited Speakers Professor Pandharipande Dr. Pratik Pandharipande MD, MSCI is Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery, and the Chief of the Division of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN, USA. His research focuses on ICU-associated brain injury (manifested acutely as delirium and chronically as cognitive impairment), and interventions aimed at reducing this burden on patients quality of life after critical illness. His papers have been published in NEJM, JAMA and BMJ. Professor Agar Dr Meera Agar is the Professor of Palliative Medicine, Faculty of Health, Centre for Cardiovascular and Chronic Care, University of Technology Sydney and Conjoint Associate Professor UNSW. She is the clinical trials director, Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research. Her research includes clinical trials and health service evaluation in palliative care, and cognitive impairment in delirium, dementia and brain tumours. Assistant Professor Khan Dr Babar Khan is a Pulmonologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Regenstrief Institute, Inc and Indiana University Center for Aging Research (IUCAR), Indiana, USA. His focus is on the impact of illness on delirium, long term cognitive, physical and psychological morbidity. He is running two randomized trials on delirium. Associate Professor Arora Dr Rakesh Arora is President of the American Delirium Society. He is an Associate Professor and Cardiothoracic Surgeon with a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, a PhD in neurocardiology, and Director of Research for the Section of Cardiac Surgery and Associate Director of Research for the Department Surgery at St. Boniface General Hospital, Winnipeg, Canada. He has specific interests understanding the impact of delirium, depression and frailty in cardiovascular patients. Associate Professor Khan Dr Ariba Khan is a Geriatrician at Wisconsin University and Director of Acute Care for Elders at Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee. Her research focus is on delirium markers, readmissions and mortality, with an emphasis on technology and economics. Sponsored by

4 Abstract submission for oral and poster presentations Information about abstract submission can be found at All abstracts must be submitted electronically on a Word document to address admin@delirium.org.au by 14 March There is no strict format for the submission of abstract. However, we would like a succinct abstract (no more than one page) of your research project with the following subheadings of TITLE, AUTHOR, AIM, METHOD, RESULTS and CONCLUSIONS. We encourage submissions from various disciplines including medical, nursing, academia, scientific and clinical researchers. Abstracts will be reviewed by the organising committee panel of clinicians and researchers from throughout Australia. Catering Catering will be provided, including morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Upon registration, please also indicate any special dietary requirements. Cancellation policy If you are unable to attend the event, please advise us via admin@delirium.org.au at least 2 weeks in advance, otherwise the registration fee will not be refundable. Conference Venue The Delirium Clinical and Research Day 2016 will be held at the Scientia Building, University of New South Wales. Public Transport There are buses from the City and Central Railway to UNSW at Anzac Parade, including the M50 which stops on High Street. The 400 bus goes from the Airport and Bondi Junction and stops on High Street. Central Railway Parking The conference will be during university holidays, so limited parking may be available near the UNSW but cannot be guaranteed. A long walk may be required. University map

5 Welcome The 3 rd biennial scientific conference of the Australasian Delirium Association (ADA) will be our first two day meeting and feature an array of dazzling speakers who will highlight the rapidly increasing scientific knowledge about delirium and improvements in care for people with delirium. The previous conferences sold out, so we have booked a larger venue, but I suggest you do not delay registering. Your registration includes two years membership of the ADA and the opportunity to get involved and up to date about delirium.
