The challenges faced in serving these and other older adults in crisis include: 1) developing programs and services that meet the immediate needs of these individuals; and 2) insuring that those in distress and requiring immediate aid receive it when it will be most helpful. This conference offers a unique opportunity to learn from experts in the legal, health, mental health, and law enforcement fields who employ crisis and emergency assessment, intervention, and management techniques in their work with older adults who are confronted with threats to their well-being. In addition to enhancing current helping techniques, attendees will leave better informed of the challenges encountered by older adults experiencing crises in home, community, and institutional settings, as well as the specialized resources available to them in the state of Maine.
