Fifteen agencies throughout Calhoun County supported the fair with information, agency marketing trinkets, school supplies and door prizes. Parents and their children visited each agency station prior to picking up a back-to-school package from TCR Parents as Teachers. AHA Board of Commissioners Marcus Dunn, Chairperson Trudy Munford, Vice Chairperson Special thanks to the following car dealerhips: Superior Cadillac GMC, Kia Automotive, Sunny King Automotive, University Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Fiat of Anniston. Also, thanks to the local restaurants and barbershops for donations to the Back to School Resource Fair. 2 Page 2 The Informer National Night Out 2018 The Anniston Housing Authority hosted its 5th Annual National Night Out Event, Tuesday, August 7, This year s event was held in Glen Addie Homes Community. Nation Night Out is a Community Building Event where law enforcement interacts with the community. There was information, music, food, bouncers, games, and prizes. The Anniston Police Department, Anniston Fire Department, A Way Out, Health Services Center, Legacy Club, Golden Springs Baptist Church, ASAP, Women with a Purpose and Alabama Career Center participated at this event. Youth explores Anniston Police Department s vehicle A match made in heaven Youth having fun in the Outdoor Inflatable Bouncer at the National Night Out event NNO guest enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers prepared by Anniston Housing Authorty s finest

3 Volume 14 Issue 4 Page 3 SUMMER TRAININGS Resident Council Conference 2018 In July, five residents and three AHA staff represented Anniston Housing Authority at the Resident Council Conference 2018 in Birmingham, Alabama. This is an annual event where resident have the opportunity to interact with other residents from other housing authorities that serve on their resident council. The conference focused on: Resident Council Training; Rent Calculation Changes; Life Choices; Section 3, Resident Owned Businesses; Streamlining Educational Opportunities to Public Housing; Pros and Cons of Homeownership; Smoke Free Housing: Non Smoking Resources; Financial Literacy; Domestic Violence: How to Identify Victims; and RAD (Rental Assistance Demonstration) Transitions. Residents toured Birmingham and saw some of their new affordable housing developments as well as some distinguished landmarks. Residents also attended the Resident Council Conference s Banquet. AHA Plumbing Class The Anniston Houaing Authority continue to provide residents the opportunity to participate in skill training classes. The purpose of these classes are to expose participants to job opportunites or continue education in a particular field. August 22, 2018, residents participated in a Plumbing Class taught by Doug Brooks, Anniston Housing Authority s Technical Advisor, who was assisted by Maintenance Mechanic, Marica Cunningham. After two hours of classroom training, residents were shown the proper installation of kitchen faucets and toilets. Residents participating in the Plumbing Class received a Certificate of Participation.

4 Page 4 The Informer NEIGHBORHOOD MEETINGS City of Anniston officials and Anniston Housing Authority will host a series of neighborhood meetings in October 2018 starting at Brief presentations on the following topics: Community policing and crime Affordable Housing Education Social services A question and answer session will follow the final presentation at each meeting. The meetings were planned in response to the success of similar, smaller meetings in the City during which individual topics were covered. City Manager Jay Johnson said the neighborhood meetings will be as much about presenting updates to community members as it will be to listen to their concerns and priorities. The community-wide meeting is Monday, October 29, officials will present those concerns to the audience.
