Participant Rules CHILDERS FAMILY YMCA OF WAYCROSS
WEIGH IN REQUIREMENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS Weekly weigh-ins are very important! Weigh-in Protocol -- your weight is confidential and will remain so throughout the program. There are no make-up times or dates for missed weigh-ins. Give yourself 15 minutes to weigh-in. Bring a photo I.D. If you want to record your own weight, bring your weigh-in log found in your Participant Handbook. Weigh-in dress code -Remove jewelry, belts, jackets, excessive clothing, and empty pockets before entering weigh-in site. -Do not disrobe during weigh-ins; shorts and a t-shirt are recommended. Due to sanitary reasons, no bare feet at weigh-ins. Socks or flip flops are acceptable. If you have lost 10 pounds or more within one week or are showing signs of unhealthy weight loss, you will be flagged in the system and contacted by Y staff. Weigh-ins are every Thursday at the YMCA Waycross from 8am until 6pm at the front entrance.
HOW DOES TEAM LEAN WORK? Each team member must weigh in weekly and pay a $50 entry fee up front. The entry fee is $50 per person: -If you register before December 31, 2016 you can pay the Early Bird Entry fee for only $40 -If you register between January 1, 2017 and January 14, 2017 the entry fee will be $50 There will be no refund if you quit or get voted off a team. Cash Prizes are distributed at the end of the competition to the top teams and top 3 Male and Female losers. WHY HAS TEAM LEAN BEEN SUCCESSFUL? Team effort motivates participants to stay focused on losing weight through proper nutrition and exercise. Cash prizes motivate participants to remain competitive throughout the 10 week competition. Team members can choose their own nutritional plan and exercise program. All weights are held confidential. (Weights are NOT shared with team members). WHO CAN JOIN TEAM LEAN? Anyone over the age of 15 who wishes to lose weight may participate. Any businesses, civic organization, church, school, or any individual groups may form teams. Participants have the option of competing either as a Team or as an Individual, but not both. Those participating as an Individual will only be eligible for prizes in the Male or Female Individual category. Those participating as a team are only eligible for prizes in the team category.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF TEAM LEAN? Weight loss through proper nutrition and regular exercise lead to better health. Team competition promotes camaraderie, encouragement, accountability, and motivation among team members and others. Weight loss often leads to more energy, increased productivity and higher self-esteem. Healthier people have fewer medical expenses, which may decrease health insurance premiums. Joiners Fee will be waived if you join the Y during the competition. ARE EXERCISE CLASSES OFFERED? As a Team Lean Participant you will receive 16 free visits for the YMCA, visits may be used for classes or individual workout sessions. All non-member participants must come in through the main entrance between 8am and 6pm to take advantage of these benefits. The YMCA offers a wide variety of group exercise classes for its members. Class schedules are available at the YMCA or online at WHAT IF TEAM MEMBERS ARE VOTED OFF OR DROP-OUT? Team members cannot be substituted after January 12, Team members may drop out by the 5 th week (February 9, 2017) without penalizing the rest of the team. A drop-out s weight will not be calculated into the team s total weight as long as they drop out by the 5 th week. (No fee returns) After the 5 th week, team members may drop out but their weight will be calculated into the team s total weight, which may lower the team s weight loss percentage. Teams must have a minimum of 4 members to remain eligible for Team prize considerations. If a team roster falls below 4 people the remainder of the team will be re-classified to the individual category. Those individuals will remain eligible for individual prize considerations. Any team that wishes to vote-off a team member must submit an official notification from the TEAM CAPTAIN-via to Rusty Hall, rhall@ymcawaycross.org.
WHAT ARE TEAM LEAN RULES? All participants must be at least 15 years of age by January 9, Participants between the ages of 15 and 17 must have parental and physician release forms signed. Convenient weigh-in times will be held from 8am to 6pm to accommodate different schedules. With the exception of the initial weigh-in on January 9, 2017, all weigh-ins will be held on Thursdays at The Childers Family YMCA of Waycross. No make up times or dates for weigh-ins missed. Participants may only weigh in once per week at the YMCA. No shoes are to be worn during weigh-ins. No disrobing allowed at the scales. Shoes, belts, jackets, jewelry, and excessive clothing should be removed prior to weighing in. T-shirts and shorts are recommended for weigh-ins. Fad diets promising fast results are strongly discouraged; such as diets that limit your nutritional intake, can be unhealthy, and tend to fail in the long run. Healthy eating and exercise are encouraged. Drastic Weight loss is discouraged for health reasons. No intentionally sabotaging other teams. Rules allow for up to two (2) missed weigh-ins, missed weighins cannot be consecutive. Participants must bring their Team Lean handbook to each weekly weigh-in to record weight. Weights are confidential and will not be released. The Team Lean Rules Committee has the right to make changes or clarifications to the rules at any time. COMMUNITY COMPETITION CATEGORIES: Individual: Men or Women (ages 15 and above) Team: (teams of 4 or 5): Women, Men, or Coed teams; ages 15 and older (unless accompanied by a parent on the same team)
WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR DISQUALIFICATION? Missing two(2) consecutive weigh-ins. Missing more than two(2) weigh-ins total during the competition. Missing the final/week 10 weigh-in, unless prior approval is granted by the Team Lean Director. Pregnancy Any surgery that occurs during the program that would result in significant weight loss. Illegally stepping on scales with weighted objects at initial weigh-in (Example: weights in pockets or undergarments). Unhealthy and/or unfair weight loss practices if discovered. Use of sauna or steam room prior to weighing in. Lap Band surgery recipients may participate in Team Lean but are not eligible for cash prize considerations, unless it has been 2 years or more. RETURNING PARTICIPANT (PENALTY) RULE This rule will take into effect for the Team Lean Competition in 2018 for returning 2017 participants. THIS RULE WILL ONLY APPLY TO LEAN LOSERS THAT LOSE 30LBS OR MORE IN THE 2017 COMPETITION. If a participant loses less than 30LBS or does not participate in the 2017 Team Lean Program this rule will not apply to them. Rule: You will be subject to penalty if you gain back more than half of your weight lost in the previous years competition. For example if you lost 30 pounds, you would be penalized if you gain back more than 15 of those pounds. If you lost 40 pounds, you would be penalized if you gained back more than 20 of those pounds. WHAT IS THE PENALTY? Anyone that meets the Criteria for the Penalty Rule would not be credited for the new weight loss until their weight drops below their 2017 halfway number. The halfway number is based on half of your total pounds lost during the 2016 competition. For example, if you lost 30 pounds, your halfway number is 15. If you lost 40 pounds, your halfway number is 20.
