3 RAZIONALE HIV Medicine is an ever-changing field: what today seems to be up-to-the-minute treatment often tomorrow is already out of date! Progress continues to be particularly rapid in the treatment of HIV disease and in the management of its complications. Although simpler antiretroviral combinations are now available and adherence to the treatment has improved, choosing the best treatment on an individual basis is often complex, particularly for those patients who failed first regimens. Furthermore, literature on the subject often produces incomplete or conflicting results. The ACHILLES advanced course will provide participants with the latest information as well as practical guidelines from an internationally-recognized panel of experts. Last but not least, the course will give young Italian clinicians an opportunity to share their own studies with the international faculty. COURSE OBJECTIVES To enable participants to acquire theoretical knowledge and to discuss the latest developments in the following areas: Early treatment for all infected persons as a means of preserving personal health and decreasing transmission Newer generation of ARV treatments including new integrate inhibitors Status and directions in HCV treatment HIV and aging: theoretical and practical issues HIV eradication: where do we stand on the cure? Update on HIV immunology and vaccine development Management of HIV-associated co-morbidities including cardiovascular disease HIV and cognition; the virus and the drugs; CNS penetration as an issue C.M.E. CREDITS Ministerial approval of credits for Doctors specialized in Infectious Diseases have been applied for: - ID Provider: Med Tech Science S.r.l. - ID Nr.: CME Points: 21 1
