2 8th Endonasal and Keyhole Surgery Course FOR BRAIN, PITUITARY & SKULL BASE TUMORS WITH HANDS-ON CADAVER DISSECTION COURSE OVERVIEW The focus of this 3-day course is to teach neurosurgeons and head & neck (ENT) surgeons the latest techniques in endonasal endoscopic and minimally invasive approaches are now applicable to a many, if not most skull base and intracranial tumors using lectures, cadaver dissections and a live surgery broadcast. Because of better understanding of skull base anatomy, advances in instrumentation, high-definition endoscopy and surgical navigation techniques, such minimally invasive approaches are now applicable to many, if not most skull base and intracranial tumors. On Days 1 and 2, the morning talks and afternoon dissections emphasize the critical anatomy for each approach, their surgical nuances, case examples and complication avoidance. Day 1 is focused on the endonasal endoscopic approach for pituitary adenomas and related skull base tumors. Day 2 is split into two parallel morning sessions that include keyhole surgical approaches for neurosurgeons (supraorbital minipterional, gravity-assisted transfalcine and transtentorial routes) and endoscopic sinonasal surgical techniques for ENTs. Day 3 (half-day) is a live endonasal endoscopic pituitary surgery demonstration. By the end of the course, the attendees should have an excellent understanding of how to perform these approaches and when to apply them to their surgical practices. COURSE OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to: 1. Outline the indications, technical nuances and limits of keyhole approaches for brain and skull base tumors including the supraorbital, minipterional, and trans-dural endoscopic gravity assisted approaches. 2. Identify sinonasal and skull base surgical anatomy. 3. Examine the indications for and technical nuances of the endonasal endoscopic approach for pituitary, skull base and midline brain tumors, including approaches to the parasellar, para-clival, and paranasal sinuses regions and anterior cranial fossa. 4. Demonstrate the methods of CSF leak repair and complication avoidance in endonasal endoscopic surgery and in keyhole craniotomies. TARGET AUDIENCE Neurosurgeons and Otolaryngologists
