3 Introduction This course aims to enhance the multidisciplinary approach of patients with inflammatory and malignant diseases of the bowel as well that of the postoperative patients and it will increase the quality of management. In expert lectures and interactive workshops each given by a multidisciplinary group of radiologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, pathologists and radiotherapists the the attendees will learn about new imaging methods, the clinically relevant questions and how the answers impact treatment decision making in bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases and postoperative complications of bowel surgery. This workshop is organised in cooperation with the European Society of Coloproctology and in association with the United European Gastroenterology. Learning objectives èèto learn about the different treatment options. èèto know the factors that are relevant for clinical decision making. èèto understand how imaging is used to guide surgical and radiation treatment planning èèto learn about the role of EUS, CT and MRI for primary staging èèto know the performance of CT, PET/CT, MRI and functional MRI for assessment of treatment response during and after chemoradiotherapy. èèto learn the pros and cons of new endoscopic diagnostic techniques and their present role with respect to symptomatic, surveillance patients and screening. èèto understand the strength and weaknesses of CT colonography èèto learn the present role of CT colonography as compared to colonoscopy in symptomatic and surveillance patients and in screening. èèto learn the role of imaging in staging colon cancer èèto know new treatment of colon tumor (total mesocolon excision) and learn about new imaging techniques èèto get insight in medical and new developments in treatment of IBD, in spec. Crohn s disease. èèto get insight in the different treatment modalities, both medical and surgical (seton, advancement, etc) of perianal fistulas èèto understand what is the best method to determine disease activity èèto understand which imaging techniques (EUS/MRI) can be used for perianal fistulas èèto know the main bowel surgical procedures èèto learn the treatment options for postoperative complications. èèto know the accuracy of CT for diagnosing leakage and abscess formation, internal herniation, strangulation, obstruction, ischemia and acute bleeding learning objectives 3
