2 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The Masterclass in Breast Cancer Surgery offers participants a qualified, comprehensive training to improve their knowledge and skills in the management, treatment and care in the field of breast cancer management. Within the concept of a multidisciplinary approach attendees will improve their skills in the totality of treatment of breast cancer and increase their confidence in the management of complex cases. Participants will better understand current best clinical practice and state of the art in breast cancer care. The Masterclass will enable participants to implement evidence-based concepts and guidelines on the surgical treatment of breast cancer to individualize the care of their patients. TEACHING FORMAT The Masterclass in Breast Cancer Surgery is at the cutting edge of current concepts of surgical treatment of breast cancer. The focus of the Masterclass is on evidencebased clinical practice and technical aspects of breast cancer surgery, within a multidisciplinary approach. The programme offers plenary lectures regarding stateof-the-art clinical evaluation, treatments with reference to clinical guidelines which will conclude in take-home messages. The Clinical sessions will be complemented by Tumour Board discussions. Furthermore, participants will deliver case presentations within small groups and discuss these with the chairmen and the faculty aiming at facilitating the interaction between participants and teachers. All participants will reside at the course venue and participation is compulsory throughout the course. The Masterclass will be entirely in English and fluency in English is mandatory for admission THE MASTERCLASS IS: 3-days residential educational event Full immersion in breast cancer surgery Clinically-oriented training Multidisciplinary International faculty of top experts delivering lectures Meet the expert workshops and case discussions IDEAL PROFILE OF THE MASTERCLASS CANDIDATE Age between 30 and 45 years At least 2-3 years experience in surgical oncology / breast cancer surgery Involvement in scientific activities Fluency in English ACCREDITATION All participants will be issued a certificate of attendance at the close of the Masterclass. Application for CME recognition will be submitted to the Accreditation Council of Oncology in Europe (ACOE) and to the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). EACCME credits are recognised by the American Medical Association towards the Physician s Recognition Award (PRA). Successful applicants are granted free registration but a contribution to the costs of full board accommodation at the course venue (for arrival on Saturday, 4 October and departure on Tuesday, 7 October) is required. The contribution of EUR 250 for ESSO/ESO Club members and EUR 300 for nonmembers will be charged at the applicationn s acceptance. Travel costs are to be covered by the participants. Zurich airport (ZH) will be served with group transfers to the venue on the arrival day (4 October) and ending day (7 October) of the Masterclass. HOW TO APPLY Interested oncologists, residents in surgery and surgeons should fill in the application form (available at or at and provide the following documents by the deadline of 1st July 2014: Letter describing motivation for attending Short CV (max 2 pages) describing- recent clinical experience and list of recent publications Supporting letter from head of department or mentor Abstract of a clinical case of a breast cancer patient relating to one of the subjects of the Masterclass The abstract (max 1 page) should describe a clinical case in the form of a clinical grand-round with: Diagnostic considerations Treatment Outcome (follow up) At least three questions that the applicant proposed for discussion with the faculty and participants Participants will be asked to bring their personal lap-top (or tablet) with wireless connection at the Masterclass as an event-dedicated website will be created and all questionnaires and certificates will be accessible only from there.
