2 The Iowa Cancer Summit Iowa s only statewide comprehensive cancer control conference connects professionals and advocates of all varieties to network and share promising practices in cancer prevention, screening, treatment, quality of life and health equity. Who Attends the Summit? The Iowa Cancer Summit is appropriate for health educators, public health professionals, community health workers, patient advocates, physicians, nurses, medical leaders, multicultural leaders, legislators, policy makers, cancer survivors and anyone else with an interest or stake in cancer control in Iowa. Location & Accomodations The 2018 Iowa Cancer Summit will be held at the FFA Enrichment Center at 1055 SW Prairie Trail Parkway in Ankeny, Iowa. Click here to view a map. Rooms have been reserved for September 23rd and 24th at The Holiday Inn Express & Suites 2402 SE Tones Drive, Ankeny, Iowa, Please call and request to book under the Iowa Cancer Summit. The room rate is $ Deadline to reserve at this rate is September 1, Conference Objectives Following the Iowa Cancer Summit, participants will be able Describe the elements of comprehensive cancer control, including prevention, screening, treatment and quality of life. Engage new and existing partners to collaborate on strategic projects that support the Iowa Cancer Plan. Identify health disparities that exist in Iowa, and develop methods for addressing them within cancer control activities. Identify roles individuals and organizations can play in statewide cancer control. Continuing Education Credit Nursing CEUs: The Iowa Cancer Summit is offered in cooperation with The University of Iowa College of Nursing. The University of Iowa College of Nursing is an Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider, Number 1. Full attendance Monday, September 24, will award... contact hours, and full attendance Tuesday, September 25, will award... contact hours. Registration Click here to complete the registration online. Cost is $80 for Iowa Cancer Consortium members and $100 for non-members. Students may also register for a discounted rate of $60. Click here to learn how to become an Iowa Cancer Consortium member. Beginning Monday, September 17, 2018, registration cost for both members and non-members will increase by $20. Online registration closes September 21, Registration will be available on-site at the event. No refunds or cancellations will be made after September 16. Persons who register, but do not attend will be billed the full registration amount. Senator Tom Harkin, The Harkin Institute Discuss the importance of preventive care and wellness in reducing cancer risk Identify how prevention efforts can complement cancer treatment research Sen. Tom Harkin (Iowa), a proponent of cancer care and research, has been recognized by organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Association of Cancer Research (AAACR) and Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI). As a young senator, Tom was tapped by Senator Ted Kennedy to craft legislation to protect the civil rights of millions of Americans with physical and mental disabilities.
